Sweepin’ the Clouds Away

Sunny day
Sweepin’ the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Come and play
Everything’s A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That’s what we’ll meet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

It’s a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you-
Happy people like
What a beautiful

Sunny day
Sweepin’ the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street
How to get to Sesame Street
How to get to….

Big Bird was cleaning up his nest to make it tidy, when he saw his friend Cookie Monster. Big Bird called out, “Hi, Cookie Monster!”

“Oh, hi Big Bird. Have you met the people who moved into the apartment down from Burt and Ernie yet?”

“No, I haven’t. Let’s go introduce ourselves.”

“Okay, let’s go then. Uhm Big Bird, do you think that they’ll have any cookies for us?”

“Oh, Cookie Monster.”

The two friends walked up the two flights of stairs in the apartment building and came to the door of the newest arrivals to Sesame Street. Big Bird knocked on the door and waited for a couple of minutes before the door opened, revealing a blonde haired man.

“Oh, hi there! What can I do for you?”

“Hi, I’m Big Bird and this is Cookie Monster. We just wanted to stop by, introduce ourselves, and welcome you to Sesame Street.”

“Thanks, that’s nice of you. I’m Andrew. Do you want to come inside and meet Xander?”

“Yes, we do. Do you have any cookies?” Asked Cookie Monster.

“I haven’t had a chance to bake any yet. Why don’t you come by next week, after I’ve had a chance to bake some.”

“Thanks, cookies are my favorite thing in the whole world.”

After he finished speaking, Cookie Monster noticed that another man had walked into the room. He had brown hair and one deep chocolate eye. His other eye was covered by a black patch, something like a pirate would wear. The other man smiled at both Big Bird and Cookie Monster and introduced himself. “Hi, I’m Xander.”

Big Bird smiled at Xander. “Hi Xander, I’m Big Bird and this is my friend Cookie Monster.”

“I’m glad that you stopped by, Big Bird. Can Andrew and I talk to you about some things?”

“Sure Xander, what did you want to talk about?”

“Well, the first thing is that Andrew and I are gay and…”

“Of course you are silly. I’d be happy too, if I moved to Sesame Street from someplace else.”

“That’s not what I meant. You see, we’re boyfriends.”

“I know that Xander. I can see that you’re both boys and you have to be friends to be roommates.”

Xander looked in bewilderment at Big Bird. He couldn’t seem to make the yellow bird realize that Andrew and he were lovers. He turned to look at Andrew for some help.

Andrew shrugged his shoulders. “Yup, we’re friends alright, friends with benefits. Back to the other thing that Xander and I wanted to talk to you about. Have you noticed any girls around here get really strong all of a sudden. Sorta like She Hulk?”

Big Bird’s eyes glistened and he nodded his head. “Yeah, Prairie Dawn got strong all of a sudden. We first noticed at a baseball game. Normally, she can’t hit the ball past the pitcher. But that day she hit five home runs!”

Xander stared at Big Bird in amazement. He never thought that it would be this easy to find the newly called Slayer. “Where can we meet her?” He asked.

“Oh, she lives in an apartment on the next floor down. Would you like to meet her now?”

Andrew nodded his head in agreement. “That would be great, Big Bird.”

The four of them left Xander and Andrew’s apartment and trooped downstairs to Prairie Dawn’s apartment. They knocked on the door and were invited in by Prairie Dawn. Bid Bird and Cookie Monster introduced Xander and Andrew to the new Slayer and then excused themselves.

“Sorry, we have to go now, but Cookie Monster and I have to tell everybody what the number and the letters of the day are.”

Prairie Dawn looked up at Big Bird. “What are they today, Big Bird? Don’t leave before you tell me.”

Cookie Monster laughed. “Today the number is sixty-nine, like these six and nine shaped cookies I have here. The letters are ‘B’ and ‘J’.”

“That’s great! Thanks for telling me, Cookie Monster.”

Xander and Andrew exchanged confused glances. The people in this neighborhood seemed completely clueless. First, they didn’t seem to grasp that fact that the two of them were involved in a romantic relationship. Then they were talking about numbers and letters that had sexual connotations as if they had none. When Prairie Dawn had shut the door behind Big Bird and Cookie Monster, Xander looked at her in the eyes.

“Prairie Dawn, can Andrew and I tell you some very important things about your life?”

“Sure, Xander what is it?”

“Well, first, you’ve been Chosen……”

“Hiho, Kermit the Frog here, with some late breaking news. It seems that late last night that Sesame Street might have experienced its first homicide. Witnesses report that they saw Prairie Dawn stab the Count in the heart with a sharp pointed piece of wood. Though no body has been found, police have charged Prairie Dawn with murder. We will keep you up to date as this story develops.”

Xander and Andrew had just finished watching the special report on the television. Andrew turned to Xander. “Well, I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t get a chance to unpack, huh?”

“You’ve got that right. I guess we should check on the next newly activated Slayer on our list. Where is it this time?”

“She’s supposed to be living in the area around Salem Center, New York.”

*******

Count von Count, watched the special report and laughed. The entire world thought that he was dead now, and he couldn’t be happier. After all of this time, he was finally able to leave this cursed Sesame Street. No longer would he have to count inane things and then tell everyone how many there were. It all had come down to a trick he had taught his Childe, Dracula: how to turn your body to mist before you were staked in the heart.
