The charm bracelet was placed on her arm, hearts and cupids hugging each other. The Parisian winds seemed to hit them harder as Xander and Shannon sat on the bench.
Shannon traced her finger on the charms, admiring them. "So, I take it you're game now?"
Xander got up and shook his head. "Didn't think we were going to talk about this today."
Shannon gathered her legs up, her chin brushing against her knees. "Today
makes it worse. We could be on a yacht, sipping champagne if it wasn't for my stepmother."
Xander placed a hand on her knee. "And you'd probably be a prima ballerina. And we'd probably wouldn't have met at all." Shannon didn't look at him. "I know it sucks about your father's will but you can't go all Sam Beckett back in time and make him write one." Quickly Shannon got up and started walking. "You have to let it go."
Shannon turned around and confronted him. "Let it go? That bitch doesn't deserve to have ever--" Xander cut her off with a kiss. She melted into his arms...for a second. "You're not going to help me! You don't have faith that my plan will work!"
"Oh it would work. I've seen the way Boone looks at you. If he thought I was hurting you he'd definitely try to buy me off."
"Then why won't you help me?"
"I don't want people thinking I'm some abusive, primal, prick. Do I come off as a criminal?"
"You're always sneaking off in the middle of night with weapons. What am I supposed to think?"
"That I'm fighting for the greater good." Said Xander but Shannon took it for sarcasm. "And the money won't be enough. Won't erase what happened."
Shannon shuffled. "It would be a start."
Xander laughed in disbelief. "What happened to the girl I met in the park? The one who pretended to be a swan princess just to put a smile on those girls' faces. The one who help me translate those phrases to their babysitter."
"Did you really need the French word for primeval?" Shannon thought back.
"Shannon, please. What happened?"
"That girl you met? She's gone."
Xander avoided her eyes. "Well, I guess then this is it."
Tears formed in Shannon's eyes. "You're breaking up with me? Today?"
"Trust me, I never thought I'd do it to someone. But I can't be the kind of guy you want. Maybe we could still be friends?" Shannon scoffed and threw the bracelet at his head. "Guess not."
