Buffy plopped onto the couch, ignoring the vamp dust that flew off her and settled about. Another night, another couple of dead vampire.
Well, more dead. As in no longer walking around killing people kind of dead, instead of walking around and killing people kind of dead.
And now I've had just given myself a headache. She thought to herself. She really hoped Dawn was asleep, she was not in the mood to deal with her , indeed, she was not in the mood to deal with anyone. Of course just as she got up to raid the cabniets for any drugs that might be around that would quell her throbbing frontal lobes when the phone rang.
"Son of a bitch!" She growled, spinning around and scooping up the phone. "Yeah?" She barked.
"Little Bunny?" Said a gruff voice at the other end of the phone. Her eyes narrowed for a moment . She remembered that name.....
"Uh.....am I supposed to know who this is?" She asked.
"Uh huh, shoot." She said, rubbing the bridge of her nose, at first she was annoyed, now she was aproaching pissed off.
"I repeat my first question."
"Max.....from Santa Monica.....we grew up together." Her eyes lit up.
"Max!" SHe shouted, Max, her next door neighbor. Max who's mother had known her mother since their childhood, Max who had the exact same birthday as her's. Max who had been so utterly heartbroken when the Summers had moved. Max, who used to call her Bunny.
Funny thing about Vamp induced headaches, good news made them poof.
"Uh....I just got in, did you hear about the bombing?" He asked, his voice sounded...off. More like the sound of a animal than the sweet voice of Max. Needless to say, Buffy had no idea what Bombing he was talking about, indeed, she hadn't watched T.V. since....ever.
"Ventrue tower in Santa Monica.....went big boom? Remember?"
Buffy was silent.
"God, I hope they have T.V. here, if they don't I may have to leave." Max said with a chuckle.
"Here? You're here? In Sunnydale?"
"When did you get in?"
"Last night, didn't have much of a chance to call you....I'm a bit of a night owl."
OhmyGodohmyGodohmyGod! She thought.
"Cool." SHe said. "You gonna stop by?"
"I already did." The voice lowered.
"A few minutes ago."
"I just got in, must of missed me."
"No I didn't."
"What?" She asked, getting suscpicus.
"Bunny, I'm in your house."
Her eyes widened in shock when she heard the voice....not on the phone, right behind her. She whirled around to see a hunched over demon. It was wearing a gray shirt and torn blue jeans. It's skin was greenish yellow, it's long arms reaching bellow it's knees. It's fingers curled into long black claws. In one hand it held an absurd pink cell phone. It was bald and it's pointed ears stuck out from its head. It ran its long puple tongue over its sharp teeth.
"Buff, I know it looks bad but-" It was cut off when Buffy jumped at it aiming to kick it right in the chest. The creature caught her mid-air and gently put her down.
"Bunny! It's me!" He shouted as she punched him in the face, forceing him back. She charged him again, lashing out with a blistering combination of punchs, all of them hit, none really hurt him. Eventually he was able to grab hold of both her hands. "Bunny! Calm down! It's me, Max!"
She recoiled at the voice, is was so like the voice on the phone but.....that couldn't be Max.
"I know, I've changed, but It's me, honest."
Buffy stepped back, her hands slipping from his.
"Max?" She asked. "How?"
"It's a long story Bunny. You might want to sit down." She did so, this creature looked nothing like Max, but.....
"Okay, I know this is going to sound insane, but....I'm a....."
"Demon?" She asked, her breath catching in her throat.
"Close, I'm a vampire."
And just like that, her headache was back.
