Seeing the Base Through Rose-Tinted Glasses

“Sam, can I talk to you for a minute?” Dr. Fraiser asked as she entered the lift that Sam was already riding by herself.

“Sure Janet. What’s up?” Sam responded, knowing from her friend’s tone that it was a matter relating to work.

“I couldn’t help but notice that you’ve been wearing glasses around the base a lot recently and I wanted to ask whether your eyesight is okay.” Janet explained, looking concerned for Sam's well being.

“Janet. I promise you my health is fine. It’s just that SG-7 discovered some crystals on one of the planets they visited recently that have some very interesting effects.”

“Such as?”

“Well, for one thing, all non-organic, non-living material appears semi-transparent when viewed through the crystal.”

“Sam. Are you telling me that you’ve created some X-ray glasses?” Janet asked stunned and a little awed at the prospect.

“Well, so far I’ve only made a prototype and I’m still testing it around the base. Purely for scientific purposes, of course. You can try them out for yourself if you like, just please don’t look in my direction.” Sam explained, handing the glasses to Janet just as the lift reached it’s destination.

“I don’t mind if I do.” Janet said smiling and putting on the glasses, before she exited the lift ahead of Sam.

“Ahhh! General Hammond, what brings you down here today Sir?”
