Constantine watched the coin, the light catching its edge as Balthazar rolled it in his grasp. Shook his head at the parlor trick and pulled out his Silk Cuts to tap one out. The demon noticed him, inclined his head in acknowledgment of the mage but was distracted by something behind him.
Constantine arched a brow and turned to follow the demon’s gaze. He caught a glimpse of a petite feminine form and with her form came a flash of light, a swirling vortex and then peace. Absolute. Infinite.
He took a shuddering breath and turned back to find the demon seated across from him. “She’s…”
A brow rose. “Pretty I’ll give you, but exquisite may push my bullshit meter.”
Balthazar flicked the silver coin, rolled it through his fingers. “Not her outside appearance, though it is pleasing. Her soul. It’s sweet. Ripe.”
Constantine blew his smoke into the demon’s face. “Not for you.”
“Only time will tell.”
“She belongs to Heaven.”
Constantine turned back to her horrified. “She got pulled back.”
He enjoyed the upper hand. “Can’t you taste their mark? She was there for quite some time. Which means…”
“She was resurrected.”
“Think your savior’s jealous?”The End.
