FFA Pairing: Buffy Summers/Gordon Walker
Spoilers: BtVS season 3 Wishverse, SPN season 2
Summary: He was the one that showed her her true meaning, her purpose.
A/N: I couldn't resist this pairing, Gordon was a favorite of mine and while I was trying to think of what I wanted to do this wacky idea hit me.
"They're all dead." Her voice was hollow her eyes dry as she stared into the mouth of hell and didn't flinch. Or what had been the mouth of hell, she had closed it, she had saved the world.
Funny how it didn't feel like that.
"And I couldn't save them," her voice was a whisper and the cool night wind as lights flickered over the building that had been a shopping mall. A Hellmouth under a shopping mall, her Watcher had thought that appropriate given the youth of America.
Her Watcher, Amelia Danes. A little old woman that looked like a cartoon grandma and could wipe the floor with anyone who was fooled by her outward persona.
Funny how losing Merrick hadn't hurt this much. It hadn't left her with this void, this emptiness.
Her triumph felt like failure.
So many people were dead and she couldn't save them because the mission was what mattered, it was the only thing that mattered. Her cheek stung from the long cut down the side of her face and she could feel the blood dripping down to her collarbone mixing with the torn edges of her shirt.
Her mother was dead too, it was a surprise she had lasted this long. Joyce Summers had never wanted to move to Cleveland but she had and her daughter had been fighting every day since, more alone now than she had ever been.
"Monsters tend to do that." his voice was smooth and unhindered by sympathy or understanding, he didn't care, her grief didn't matter.
Buffy turned to Gordon her head titling back as she took him in with a familiar anger sparking in her green eyes. She wasn't alone but him being there didn't make it any better, had never made it any easier.
His eyes narrowed and he breathed out softly "You best get moving girl, you want to be all prepared when your Council sends another babysitter."
Buffy looked away unable to hold the gaze knowing he knew how she felt but didn't care, that he knew her feelings didn't matter when they were at war. "He got in about an hour ago, apparently there is some former Watcher in Sunnydale that claims the place is a Hellmouth and they need me."
She didn't know there were any more Hellmouths, another dent in her victory when it only slowed down the forces of evil instead of the crippling blow Amelia had assured her they would be dealing with this wacky plan.
"Well then what are you still doing here." Gordon's voice was a mixture of the harsh passion and commanding tone he had always used with her. Once upon a time he had convinced her all she could ever do was fight because there was evil in this world and it was up to them to kill it, to strangle its hold on the earth.
They were the heroes.
She turned to him finally meeting his eyes and breathed nodding "Yeah, I should get going." She took one last glance at the destruction she had caused, the lives she had saved and willingly sacrificed and her eyes hardened "I'll see you around Walker." She turned to leave each step stronger than the last as she was reminded why she was born in the first place.
"See ya Slayer."
