Title: Zodin (1/1)
Disclaimers: I don’t own anything from Buffy or Doctor Who. This is fic is rated FR13, because of Faith swearing. Mmmmm...Faith.
Authors Note: See below.
*******One night, not so long ago…
Faith strode into the cavern. The bodies of minions and assorted demons were strewn behind her. Before her stood a woman, terrible and beautiful. Her hair was a blood red wave that fell from her head, and she was adorned in fine jewels. The woman’s eyes were cold, blue with an unholy fire. Talons adorned her fingertips, and blood stained her hands.
“So you the freak in charge here?” Faith taunted.
The woman just screamed obscenities at Faith in a language she could not understand.
“Let me rephrase that. Is your name Zodin?” Faith asked sharply.
The beautiful woman appeared to gather herself together. She straightened her shoulders and began to walk towards Faith.
“Yes, I am Zodin, foolish girl. I am Zodin the Great and Terrible. I am Zodin, Matriarch of Shadow. I am…”
“Zodin, Queen of blah, blah, blah. I get it. You got one chance to get out of here alive.”
Zodin’s face brightened. Bending slightly, as if she was addressing a child, she called out “And what would that chance be, girl?”
“Leave Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart and his bloodline alone. He had no dealings with you. You do that, you get another night to live.”
“This Lethbridge-Stewart is mine by ancient right. Your threat means nothing.”
“Nothing?” Faith questioned, her voice growing colder.
Zodin stopped walking. Something in the young woman’s eyes made her want to run screaming back into her lair.
A wicked smile grew on Faith’s face. She reached behind her left shoulder and drew out a scythe, the blade sharp and gleaming. She began to tap the handle of the scythe on the palm of her hand with a beat that matched her steps on the cavern floor. Soon Faith was right in front of Zodin, her smile now an evil grin.
“Then me and you got some discussing to do, bitch.”
*******Several months later, the TARDIS
The Doctor was walking through the TARDIS when he remembered that Faith had given him a note. She had slipped it in his pocket when he visited the Brigadier last. He rummaged through his pockets, and found the folded note.Doc,
Zodin got her one chance.
She made her choice.
The Terrible Zodin won’t be bothering the Brig anytime soon.
You don't fuck with family.
Five by Five,
The Doctor sighed.
In retrospect, he thought, he probably shouldn’t have mentioned anything about the Terrible Zodin in the first place all those centuries ago. Yet in the back of the Doctor's mind one of his other selves appreciated another loose end being tied up.
Oh well, sometimes the laws of time weren’t broken, but they were bent. At least Faith gave Zodin a chance to back down.
: Yes, this is my first Strange Chaps fic in almost a year. I’ve had some family business to attend to and some writer’s block. On top of that I’ve been pretty busy overall. To all the people who review, recommend, and track the Strange Chaps with Bad Teeth stories, I thank you. To whoever nominated my fic “Merry Christmas, Brigadier” for a Crossing Over Award, I thank you. I’ll try to write more.
This fic is based on the line in Doctor Who episode The Five Doctors when the Second Doctor is walking with the Brigadier. The Brigadier mentions various foes they fought, and the Doctor mentions the Terrible Zodin. “She’s in the future,” the Doctor says. That was the spark for this fic. I know she has been referenced in several Doctor Who novels, but this is the version of Zodin for this universe.
