Prologue

Mine, all mine, and I am actually quite proud of it. I mean the poem below of course, not Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, Buffy, Angel, Highlander, or any of the other fandoms I intend to pillage. I just love those stories so much that I decided to borrow some things to play with for a while. I promise to return them in mint condition when I’m done.



Pairings:

Alucard/Integra, Angel/Spike/Xander, Victoria Seras/?, Willow/Tara, Giles/Ethan, Duncan/Methos, D/Mayerling. There may also be some other minor pairings, but those will be the main ones. There will also be lots of surprise crossovers and pairings.

Book 1- Sunset



One regret of a mortal god

Prologue

He hated seeing her in pain. It seemed endless as she drove herself on a never ending quest to save the world. He cursed the ghost of her father; she would never be able to win the approval of a dead man. Whatever failing she imagined from childhood spurred her onward. She never doubted that her father loved her, but she seemed to feel that that love would fade if she left off the Hellsing crusade for even a moment.

Alucard hid his emotions well behind a cruel laugh and a wicked smile, but his own experience with pain allowed him to empathize deeply with his mistress. He had followed her willingly since childhood as her soldier…her protector. The only bonds she kept him with were those around his heart.

The spells her father had used to bind him had broken at the first taste of Hellsing blood down in the dungeons. It was for her that he played the game…pretended. Even though he had known her since she was young; the last thing he felt for her was anything paternal. In her eyes he had seen the soul that he had waited millennia for.

Alucard had waited patiently for her to grow up, yet now that she had, she seemed to deny that her heart existed.

There was also the vampire problem to be dealt with. While she tolerated his presence, she still hated his kind and feared being turned into a vampire herself. She knew that if she let Alucard love her, he would eventually persuade her to change. He would only be satisfied with forever.

Soon he would have to make a decision. The constant battles with the lab-created Freaks had weakened the Hellsing organization to the breaking point. The chaos in the world of darkness was, in part, Alucard’s fault. The No Life King had kept his title, but had left the responsibility behind. A short vacation during a peaceful time had turned in to a century-long imprisonment in the Hellsing dungeons.

Even after he was free, he had still been a captive. This time he had been held prisoner by his own emotions. Instead of returning to his kingdom to reclaim power immediately, he had stayed to dance attendance on a young warrior queen. She was the one he wanted to rule by his side.

In a way he could give he what she always wanted: total control of the night-walking creatures of the earth. It just wouldn’t be in a form she would appreciate.

Soon he would have to go back. He would have to break the fragile illusion of her control. He would have to tell her everything…but how?

Additional notes-

Setting:

Hellsing Manor- Sometime neither here nor there, but definitely after the end of the Anime. I probably won’t get around to including everything cannon, and I will change things at will, but I will do my best to make sure they make sense. D and Alucard are both extraordinary characters on their own. I have made some modifications, some quite grand, but as they were both Marty Stu’s to begin with, I don’t think I did any harm. All modifications were made to aid plot development, and few dispute cannon.

Timeline:

This fic will be long. It has to be. It will span ten-thousand+ years. BtVS, AtS, and Highlander will be added in a few chapters. D will not make an appearance for quite a while. I am good at updating, but if I get behind, feel free to poke me to get me moving again. I work better under pressure.
