“Osiris, keeper of the gate, master of all fate, hear us.
The words drift across the abyss that separates them. At first, she ignores them. The Valkyrie has other things she needs to do right now. Better things.
Her Einherjar aren’t ready for the challenges that await them yet. She needs to prepare them. That’s why they’ve come here.
“Before time, and after. Before knowing and nothing.
She stops abruptly. She can still hear the undead, all around them, screaming at her to be destroyed, but those words, that same voice... The insistence of it catches her momentarily off-guard.
“My lady...?” The military doctor looks uncomfortable speaking the title.
The Valkyrie spares her a cool glance, turning to look around.
The doctor raises her firearm, scanning their surroundings more thoroughly. She’s nervous. This is the first time she’s been in a situation like this, faced with enemies that do not die easily.
She needn’t worry.
The Valkyrie knows that her Einherjar are more than capable of dealing with this situation, and if the case should prove otherwise, there is no way she would allow any harm to come to them.
“Accept our offering. Know our prayer.
“Did you hear that?” She asks, glancing at her two companions. There are others of course, but she can distinguish between those she carries within her, and those she has given form.
“I didn’t hear anything,” the doctor says.
“Osiris! Here lies the warrior of the people. Let her cross over.
The sudden pull almost brings her to her knees. She hadn’t expected it, that’s all. The shinobi is there to help steady her, but she pushes him away. She needs no help.
“Something’s wrong,” she says.
To their credit, her Einherjar are instantly on guard. They are fine warriors, but even they couldn’t be prepared for this.
“Osiris, let her cross over!
This time, the call does bring her to her knees. She tries to get back up, but her strength is fading fast, pulled away. Her Einherjar disappear as well, returning from whence they came.
The last thing she hears, before she too fades, is that voice.
“Osiris, release her!
