The deal

Several weeks later
In her search for information Willow found out that NID really wasn’t a nice agency they tried to look like. Kidnappings, blackmail and murders seemed to be in their standard methods to get what they wanted. They seemed to be in almost constant battle against SGC about who controls the gate. Especially against SG-1, which seemed to be the Scoobies of the SGC, was their number one enemy. From what Willow had read SG-1 had saved the planet almost as many times as Scoobies back in her own dimension. ‘I really don’t want to end up in their hands. I really can’t just go to SGC and reveal myself to them the NID would almost surely find out about my “talents” and demand that I would be placed in their custody. And since I am citizen of the US the SGC wouldn’t have any other choice but to give me to them.’

Willow also read a carefully hidden report about an artifact that had been found from a tomb in Egypt about 80 years ago. It seemed that linguists the NID had hired hadn’t had any luck translating the scroll so far. It also seemed that the artifact had been stolen from the NID by a rogue agent who seemed to have helped SG-1 in the past. She quickly found that the agent, Harry Maybourne, was trying to get the scroll translated and was offering 30 thousand dollars to any person who could translate the scroll. ‘Hmm, this is either rich or he hopes that the artifact is some kind of get-out-of-jail pass for him. He must be quite desperate to do this. Well who wouldn’t be when a secret government agency is trying to kill you.’

Examining the scroll further Willow found out that her days spent researching ancient prophesies finally paid out. It seemed that the scroll was written in strange combination of two languages that had been dead for millennia. In little over two weeks later Willow finally had the whole scroll translated. Willow’s work would have been much faster if she would have her books on translations she had back in her dimension. It was really hard to get help to the translations from Internet but Willow’s experience paid out. The scroll seemed to describe so sort of paradise in another planet, a vacation spot for people to spend time in. The artifact that was with the scroll seemed to be a key to a transport to the place. ‘Hmm. If I manage to get in touch with this guy I might get the money I need to buy a laptop and some other stuff I need. Just have to be really careful that he or anyone else can’t identify me.’ Few days later Willow finally managed to make contact with the elusive Harry Maybourne.

A room in a motel somewhere in Montana.
Harry Maybourne was watching news from TV when he heard his laptop give a voice signal indicating that he had received an email. ‘Who the hell can it be there are only handful of people who have my email address.’ Harry got up from the bed he had sat on and went to his computer. Harry had no idea who the address the email had come from belonged to. He was just about to open the email when the screen of the laptop went black. Harry barely managed to form a thought when a text suddenly came to screen.

– Hello Harry –
Panic began to rise in Harry’s mind. ‘Oh crap, they have found me.’
– The matrix has you. –
‘Huh. What a hell. Must be so kind of virus that came with the email.’
– Sorry just couldn’t resist. I’m contacting you regarding the scroll you wanted translated. –
At this point Harry was looking out of the window to see if there was anyone outside. When he saw nobody he returned to the computer. He noticed that he could write an answer so he deducted that this was some kind of instant messaging program.
-Who the hell are you and how the hell did you find me.-
– Now, now Harry no need to swear. At the moment you don’t need to know who I am or how I found you. You just need to know that I have translated the scroll you have.-
This peaked Harry’s interest. ‘Maybe I finally have some luck. Just need to be careful that it isn’t a trap.’

– You still willing to pay 30 thousand for the translation?-
– Yes, when and where? –
– A week from now on Tuesday in Colorado Springs. There is a small café west of Wasson park called Twister. Be there 4 P.M. Alone with the money.-
Harry just managed to read the text on the screen when the normal view returned. Harry used all the training and skill he had with computers to try to trace the email he had received but his all efforts were blocked. The email seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and contained the information about the meeting point. ‘Hmm. Colorado Springs. Have to be really careful that this isn’t a trap set by Jack. It would be just his style.’

Week later in Colorado Springs just before 4 p.m
Harry watched the small café from a rooftop across the street. He had arrived early in the morning to watch out for any sign of a trap. He had to admit that it was a perfect spot to make a switch. The street was busy enough that anybody could disappear among the masses quickly and the view to all directions from the café was good so you could any sign of trouble fast. Checking his gun Harry left the roof to go to the café.

Harry selected a table so that his back was against the wall and he had a good view to the street. ‘I wonder when whoever contacted me shows up.’ Minute later a girl with blonde hair carrying a backpack sat into the chair across Harry.
Harry “Scram kid, the seat is taken.”
Willow “Now Mr. Maybourne, no need to be rude.”
Harry blinked. And blinked again. ‘They send a kid to contact me. They must be nuts.’
Willow “Now do you have the money with you?”
Harry “Yep.” Points a bag next to his chair “ You ain’t gonna get anything before I can make sure the translation isn’t a hoax and I doubt you can answer my questions so go and bring the translator here.”
At this point the girl opens her backpack and produces a folder from inside it. She hands the folder to Harry.
Willow “You will find out I am fully capable answering any questions you may have. Just ask away.”
At this point Harry as an experienced agent let’s things take their own course (he had seen stranger things during his career) and opens the folder and starts to read the documents inside.

Fifteen minutes later Harry had found out the girl really could answer any questions he had. ‘Hmm. The translation actually seems to be right as far as I can tell. This may be my big chance. Just what I needed a place to hide where nobody who wants me dead can come.’
Willow “May I have the money now.”
Harry hands his bag to the girl which she opens and inspects the money inside the bag. ‘Hmm. Well trained girl. Didn’t take the money from the bag for all to see.’
Seeming satisfied with the money the girl starts to leave.
Willow “It was pleasure doing business with you. Goodbye.”
With this the girl leaves. Harry interested on who was behind this all starts to follow her.

After two minutes of following the girl Harry sees her turning to a small alley between to shops. Harry slowly walks to the entrance of the alley and faces a surprise. The alley is a dead end and there girl isn’t there. Harry quickly inspects the alley but can’t find any kind of door or a place where girl could hide. ‘Where the hell did she go. This is beginning to feel creepy.’
Harry quickly exits the alley and leaves for the hotel he is staying at. On the way to the hotel he keeps thinking he is missing something important about the girl and her employers.

On the alley two minutes after Harry left.
Suddenly the air ripples and a blonde girl appears out of nowhere. With a small hand movement her hair turns back to red as it originally is. ‘I hope that small glamour like that confuses them.’ Willow places a small spell on the bag that would destroy any transmitters that might have been planted into the bag or the money. ‘Good. Now nobody can track me. Off to shopping.’ With thoughts about her new computer Willow leaves the alley.
