Disclaimer: I own nothing but these words I write
A/N: The parts with River, Zoe, and Inara are mine, however the parts with the new characters was written by my adoptive sister. I may attempt to use her character, which she has given me expressed opinion to use, for turning this into ficlic stories...who knows. It actually depends on how well this story turns out.
Reavers stood in front of them, like a gorram sea. Zoe had a feeling that she would die here, that this place, where she was standing would be her grave. What ever happened though, she hoped the Captian and Wash would be okay.
Inara stood, gun in hand beside Zoey. 'You'll get through this, you always do.' she chanted in her head, just to keep the hope.
River stood eyeing the reavers. There was so much pain made it made her head hurt. She knew she could kill them, kill them all with one single stroke, but the slayer was tending to the other one now. She didn't have the time to come, nor the heart to leave the other one alone.
The spell had worked. He could feel it in the air, that familiar emotion that always preceeded by her
showing up near him, that same feeling of being....of being home
. There she was, clothed in a new body, farther away from him then he'd ever wanted her to be...
...Surrounded. The scent of death. A smell he was all to familiar with.
They wanted to kill her. Well, he wouldn't let
them. Tearing through them, one by one, one after another, it was more tedious than tiring. They were all the same- like feral clones of one another- but in the end they were still human.
And a human going against him
would never have a chance.
They lay in pools, piled up. Almost to waist high but he didn't care. There was only one thing he cared about.
There she was. He had found her, at last. The other humans bothered him, but from how they stood, they had been trying
to protect her. for that, they wouldn't die. A slash across the finger, a simple freezing spell. And there he was, in front of her... at last
and he fell to his knee in a bow.
"Serenity" he said, in a deep, broken, rasping voice. "Sorry for making you wait, but I am here now."
He was finally home
