A/N: Feel free to review and to comment. I realize that Xander's voice is not perfect, but sometimes a girl just has to write what feels right.
A/N2: I have received several very true reviews about how this story lacks context and emotions. I'm not changing the story so feel free to fill in the gaps as you see fit.
"Anger, anger would probably be the biggest thing affecting my life."
"You don't seem to be a very angry person."
"Well I can get pretty riled up, but thats not exactly what I meant."
"How do you mean?"
"I cause it in other people a lot."
"Why don't you give me an example."
"Well for starters there's my parents. They tended to fight about me or yell at me a lot for the stuff I did or didn't do."
"How did that make you feel?"
"Like I was the central problem in their life and that they would have been happier without me."
"Why would you say that?"
"Cause once my father said something similar to that."
"What exactly did he say?"
"He said 'your mother and I are two very different people and we're still together because of you.'"
"That must have been difficult to hear but does not sound like you were the problem in their marriage."
"No, but you don't realize how unhappy their marriage was."
"How do you know what their marriage is like perhaps you just saw the worst of it and was not there for the happier parts."
"Maybe, but the thing is is that when I was alone with them they would complain about each other and there was a lack of respect there."
"I see and what do you think about your parents individually?"
"Well my father is the easier one he was abusive. He had an unpredictable temper. I was always on egg shells around him so I was angry at him and scared of him at the same time."
"And your mother?"
"She didn't have nearly the same type of temper, especially with me. She could generally hold her own in a fight with my father but she was rarely angry with me. Her problem was more that she would shut down. When things got hard she would just find a quiet corner and sit, not crying or yelling or anything just sitting."
"So your upset with her for not protecting you?"
"Well yeah but she also tended to be kinda unreliable about things. She would promise to do things and sometimes she would do them and then other times not. It always hurt when she broke her promises."
"How did you react to the situation?"
"How do you mean?"
"In what way did you deal with your problems."
"I always thought about escaping."
"Are you referring to suicide?"
"Maybe a little but I had really good friends that I didn't want to leave so it was more about moving out instead, which I eventually managed to do a couple of years after high school. The anger thing isn't just about my parents though."
"How do you mean?"
"I'm kinda inflexible about things when I think somebody is doing something wrong and they think its right. That makes people mad."
"You think thats a bad trait?"
"Its not always the best thing for friendships and relationships, because people like to think they know whats best for themselves and don't like me telling them otherwise."
"And you think you know better then them?"
"In some cases I see future problems that they don't. I'm not always right but I am a lot of the time and then I have to see the ones I love in pain that could have been prevented if they had listened to me."
"It can be hard to watch the ones you love make mistakes, but as you've seen it can cause problems in your relationship if you push too hard."
"Yeah I've noticed that, so what am I supposed to do? just sit back and watch the mess unfold?"
"I suggest you wait until you're asked for advice before you give it. If its really important and its for someone who really trusts you, then you can give the advice but only once. At that point you should step back and let them make their mistakes. And Xander if things eventually play out as you predicted, never ever say I told you so, it never helps"
"Thats easier said then done."
"True, thats why most people don't do that. Just remember that even if you can't stop things from falling apart for you friends you can always help them put things back together."
"Councilor Troi please report to Conference room A," said the station commander over the com
"On my way."
"Thanks Councilor, as always a pleasure talking to you. I'll see you the next time your ship comes to the station."
"Your welcome Xander and next time, we'll talk more about your parents, because I think there is more to talk about before you can fully resolve that issue."
"Can do empath lady."
