A/N: While Bruce is recovering from a broken back, Nightwing will fill in his roster spot. Starts after the Thanagarian invasion. I’m nixing most of the Knightfall story arc. Don’t feel like incorporating it.

The silence was unbearable. It wasn’t total silence. Breathing and the machines that made breathing and gravity a reality in space were making sounds as well. Fed up with everyone just looking at him and not talking, Xander decided to break the ice.

“So why do you want me to join your team? You three,” He pointed at Superman, Wonder Woman and Kyle Rayner, “don’t like me. For various reasons. Bruce tolerates me at best. We’ve had words over this, and Wally is the only one who likes me. That just leaves Nightwing and J’onn. So, with three votes against me being here, one in favor of me being here and three undecided.”

“Two in favor.” Xander heard Bruce state over the teleconference. Everyone in the room was stunned. Bruce giving this Xander guy his vote of confidence made it easier for Dick to come to a decision.

“While I don’t like the way Bruce treats his teammates, he’s never been wrong about those he chooses for his teammates. Three in favor.” Clark, Diana and Kyle were stunned. Why would they be wanting Xander to join them. His methods are too vulgar and he stoops to the level of the villains when fighting them. Not really the proper image they want the Justice League to represent.

“Since it is a 3-3 tie with a tiebreaker, what do you say, J’onn?” Was the question on everyone’s mind, that Wonder Woman did ask.

“While I do sympathize with those that are against Alexander joining us, he is an asset we can not overlook. I vote in favor of him joining.”

‘It would be prudent for him to join so we may keep an eye on him and this Hellmouth you mentioned. Possibly give him some backup.’ This was sent telepathically to Clark, Diana and Kyle to explain J’onn’s reasoning for his vote. They understood.

Xander never expected to be voted in. He would’ve thought they were going to waste the time he could have been spending with Harley by bringing him up here and then telling him they didn’t want his help, but to keep the Hellmouth safe. Little did they know he already did that on his way home after painting Superman’s hair.

“Oh, really? I can join you guys up here?” The look on Xander’s face was evident that he was being sarcastic. “I’m so excited I can hardly contain my excitement.” Xander went to take a walk around the Watchtower, when he was stopped by Clark asking him to wait a second.

“We’d like to help you out on the Hellmouth. With personnel, equipment, training facilities et cetera. What do you say?”

“You just want to keep an eye on me with the people you’ve already asked to join, right? And don’t lie, Boy Scout, you’re too honest to lie effectively.”

“He’s got you there, Clark.” Wally smirked at Superman. A common occurrence on the Watchtower.

“Alright, fine. You’re right. There’s a lack of trust between the two of us. But you do good work for the planet, and we want to help.” The Flash looked like he had an idea.

“Hey, Clark. How about we give Xander here an entire list of the League and let him see who might be good backup.”

“And their psychological profiles, too. I’ll need to know what buttons to push.”

Clark, Diana and Kyle looked at each other and held a silent conversation. Then they all shook their heads.

“Deal. Give us an hour and I’ll have one of our tech people give you a PDA.” Xander gave Superman the same salute Han Solo gave Lando in Jedi and went to take a walk around the Watchtower. As he was walking away from the meeting room, Xander took his uniform off. He felt better in civilian clothing. At the end of the hall he was in, he noticed a blonde in a white cutoff shirt with Superman’s insignia on it, a red skirt and white boots glaring daggers at him in the same pose that Batgirl used on him months ago. Different pissed off woman, same result.

“Look, Kid. There are only 6 women in this universe that pose gets the appropriate reaction from me. And none of them are here on the Watchtower. So calm down, take a Midol and get over the fact that I embarrassed Superman. He was long overdue for some humiliation. Even if it was juvenile.”

Xander pushed his way past Supergirl to see a room full of superheroes that were pissed off with him for giving Superman green hair. There was an open door on the other side of the room, but there were still people in the way. Xander was trying to figure out a way to that door, when a green top hat appeared on his head and a green cane appeared in his right hand. Smiling, Xander had a brilliant idea.

Hello! ma baby
Hello! ma honey
Hello! ma ragtime gal
Send me a kiss by wire
Baby, ma heart's on fire!
If you refuse me
Honey, you'll lose me
Then you'll be left alone
Oh, baby, telephone
And tell me I'm your own!

The singing and dancing distracted everyone long enough for Xander to get to the door. When Xander exited the room, the hat and cane disappeared.

“I wonder if I can get a DVD copy of my performance out there.”
