The trees sing
The Old Forest was a lasting outpost of the ancient woods of Middle Earth. West of the forest lived Hobbits, who believed that the trees were 'awake'. They would sway when there was no wind, whisper in the night and mislead travellers deeper into the forest, or at least try.
Peter had known when he had wakened that this was not England or Narnia. It was too quiet for this forest to be Narnian, and the trees were hostile. He moved quickly, but made care not to harm a tree or light a fire. He wanted to be clear of the woods before nightfall. He did not want to sleep in these woods.
When he had awakened he had not seen his siblings, but had found something lying beside him. His sword and shield, the gifts he had received in the first Christmas in Narnia for hundred years. His clothes had changed, into clothes he would have worn in Narnia, and he had a knife on his belt which seemed very familiar, his sister Lucy’s knife.
It was nearing sunset when he left the trees and found a road. He didn't know where he was or why he was here, but trusted in the lion. He just hoped he would see his brother and sisters soon.
