A Whole New World
Buffy groaned and put a hand to the back of her throbbing head as she sat up. She opened her eyes to see a small white creature with a red pompom on it's head staring at her.
"Uh... hi?" Buffy looked at the creature with curiosity.
"You okay, kupo?" The creature asked her.
"Yeah, I think so." Then, Buffy took in her surroundings. She didn't think this place was heaven... or hell.
"Where am I," she asked the creature that was still looking at her as if she had two heads.
"Traverse Town, kupo." Seeming satisfied that Buffy was okay the creature turned and walked away.
"Traverse town?" Buffy had never heard of the place, but then she had just jumped through a portal. Still, this didn't look like a home for a hell god so where was she really?
Buffy pushed off the ground so that she could stand and realized that she was holding what looked like a giant Key in her hand.
"Be careful with that," someone said to her.
"Angel?" Buffy turned to the new voice hoping against hope that she was right. But the man before her was not the one she had been longing to see.
The man chuckled a little.
"I've been called a lot of things. But an angel isn't one of 'em."
Buffy studied him. He sounded so much like the soulful vampire that she wasn't quite ready to believe that he wasn't.
"Forgive my rudeness. I'm Leon." The man didn't offer his hand for her to shake. Instead, he stood there with his arms crossed giving Buffy the distinct feeling that he didn't want to be touched at all.
"Buffy," he finished for her. " I was told you were coming."
"Wow. Serious deja vu here." Buffy said, mostly to herself. Then, what he had said really hit her.
"Wait a minute. You heard I was coming? From who? I didn't even know I was coming."
"Isn't that the way it usually works? The Powers shuffle people wherever they want them without any warning and those people are just supposed to deal with it?" Leon's voice carried a note of hostility at the mention of "the Powers".
"Yeah. Seems to be. You sound like you've had some experience at that." Buffy was pretty sure that she was right on about that.
Leon grunted in acknowledgment as he turned and started to walk off. Then, he threw a look over his shoulder at her.
"You coming," he asked. He didn't wait for an answer before he started walking again.
Buffy walked quickly to catch up with him.
"Where are we going, exactly?"
"You have questions, right? About how you got here? And why you have that?" He said pointing to the giant key-looking thing that was still in Buffy's hand.
"Uh, not really. I'm mostly just wondering why I'm not dead." She told him.
That brought a crooked smile to the handsome man's face. He really was a lot like Angel, though he didn't look like him. His hair was too shaggy and his face was more angular. They did have the same broody expressions though.
"I can answer that one, too. Just not here. And there are a few people we have to find first."
