Back in the Grave
Set during Two Aliens in a Spaceship. Buffy, instead of Brennan, gets trapped in the car with Hodgins. Buffy is the heir of the New Watcher Council. Booth is Angel all shanshu’d with false memories of his time in the army as a sniper.
I don’t own anything that you recognize. Not the characters, not the majority of the plot, only the tiny twist I’m adding. Don’t sue.
Buffy sat up, groaning. She rubbed the back of her neck and strained to see in the darkness surrounding her.
“Ugh, I feel like it got attacked by a Fyarl.”
The Slayer fumbled around in the darkness and hit the button for the window. As the window slid open, dirt and gravel rained down on her. She flipped the button and the window went back up. Panic started to build in her chest.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!” She slammed her hands into the steering wheel in front of her, honking the horn.
She turned around and looked over the seat when she heard the groan of another person.
48 hours earlier
Buffy entered the double doors of the Jeffersonian Medico-Legal lab. She flashed her ID badge to the security guard at the front desk and went looking for her boyfriend, Jack Hodgins. She ran into Booth on the way.
“Seeley, hi.” Buffy smiled at him. He stopped momentarily.
“Hi. Can’t stop and chat.” He continued towards the main lab, swiping his cards.
“Nice to see you again, Booth. How are you? Glad to hear it. I’m fine too. Have a nice day.”
“Talking to yourself again? You know, they say it’s a sign of mental instability.”
“Hello Angela. How’s Willow?” Buffy stood at the bottom step, looking up into the lab. “It looks like you have a case. Guess I won’t be eating lunch with Jack today, huh.”
“It looks that way sweetie. Willow’s doing fine. She says she can’t wait for the morning sickness to end.”
“That sounds like Wills. Sorry I haven’t been by in awhile. Council work is keeping me pretty busy.” Buffy smiled as Jack came down the steps to her level and gave her a quick kiss.
“Hi, Jack. No lunch today?” Buffy asked, only whining a little bit.
“No lunch. We got a kidnapping case. The kidnapper buries his victims alive and gives the family...” his voice trailed off as Buffy’s face paled. “Buffy, are you all right?”
“I’ve got....got to go. Council business.” She turned and nearly ran out of the Jeffersonian, stopping only when she got to the front steps. She sat down and leaned against the handrail.
A few minutes later Angela came out and sat next to her. The brunette put a comforting arm around Buffy’s shoulder.
“You should really tell him about being the Slayer, Buffy. If he had known, he wouldn’t have said anything and you would have remained blissfully innocent.”
“I know, but he wouldn’t be anymore.” Angela laughed.
“Honey, Hodgins is hardly innocent. If you told him, he’d probably be all ‘ha! I knew it!’ You know how he is with all his conspiracy theories.” That made Buffy smile.
“I know.” There was silence between the two women for a moment. “God that’s so awful. Being buried alive.”
Jack stared at the space Buffy had just vacated. Booth turned around, having heard Buffy’s stammered excuse.
“What just happened?” Hodgins asked Booth, a bit dumbfounded.
“Did you say something to her? Remember the bit about the shovel?” Hodgins put his hands up.
“I remember. I was just telling her a little about the case we’re working on.” A look came over Booth’s face that was a little bit anger, and a little bit sympathy. “What did I do wrong?”
“Nothing that you knew was wrong. Let me go talk to her.” As Booth was about to go look for the wayward Slayer, she and Angela came back inside.
“You should really tell him, you know.” Booth called to her.
“Tell me what?” Jack asked Buffy.
“It’s a really long story, which you don’t have time to hear right now. I could give you the condensed version in an hour.” Booth shot her a meaningful look. “Maybe two.”
