That Willow had never sensed her was a testament to Joyce’s warding ability. When the elder Summers died, the wards surrounding a previously hidden trunk in the attic dissipated; allowing it to be revealed. It, along with other family treasures were transported to L. A. for safe keeping when it was obvious that Sunnydale would be the frontline in the inevitable battle for the fate of the world.

Weeks after the battle that sunk her home beneath a crater; it was a weary young woman, desperate for a reminder of happier times that opened this trunk.
