“Once a Watcher…”
Rupert Giles/ Niles
Notes: Made for FFA. Messed with the timeline made one year after Chosen and one year after the Nanny finally line up. So the family has moved to Los Angeles and Niles is married to CC. Yes, yes. I lost my mind.
Niles had been watching her closely for days and there was no doubt about it… she had been chosen. Who would have thought young Miss Gracie would have been chosen to be a slayer. It wasn’t long after the family had up and moved to Los Angeles that Gracie had begun to change.
Even though he had been assigned to guide the potential slayer he never really believed she would be a Chosen so he put off his lessons. Then when her mother died he abandoned them. She was already in therapy four times a week, he didn’t need her also believing in vampires…
He was never that into being a Watcher anyway. And despite all his complaints he liked being in Service. The Sheffield’s were his family, he never wanted to wreck that. So he abandoned the cause and got too involved and started his own family. But when he saw the teenager “accidentally” rip a door off its hinges he knew he needed to get back to his roots. That was why he was now in a posh Beverly Hills café chatting with an old friend.
“What do you mean all of them?!” Niles nearly shouted gaining attention from the entire room. “Sorry.”
Rupert Giles looked around and waited for the others patrons to go back to their own business before speaking again. “So she’s not ready at all.” Rupert seemed disappointed.
“Please.” Niles tone became darker. “There was how much of a chance? And after her mother…”
Rupert shook his head, “You’re right. I’m sorry.” He took a sip of his drink, “Do you think you can get her ready?”
“I’ll do my best.”
“You could always send her to us. We have a sort of school starting now-“
Niles shook his head, “Her mother would never-“ Niles looked to the door and much to his surprise there entered Fran and Val pushing along three young children. There were two strollers the twin Sheffield children in one and little JJ in the other.
“Niles!” she called loudly waving over at them.
“Brace yourself.” Niles told his friend.
“What are you doing here?” Fran asked as she joined them at the table.
“I could ask the same thing.” Nile said bring attention to his son little JJ.
“Who’s your friend?”
“Rupert Giles.” Giles introduced himself.
“Niles and Giles.” Fran laughed and Giles had to hide a wince at her voice.
“Are you two brothers?” Val asked and immediately Giles was reminded of Harmony.
It seemed like the two women were there for hours. “I envy you.” Giles said as they left.
“No you don’t.”
“I do, I could never do it. Never fit in… have a normal life.”
“It may not all be vampires and demons but it’s not normal.”
Giles smiled as he sipped his coffee. “So keep me posted-“
“I will. And you know where to find me… if it ever gets that despite.”
That night Niles knocked on Gracie’s door. She looked lost staring out her bedroom window. “What is it?” She asked distantly.
Niles closed her door and sat next to her. “I know you’re confused and I have a story to tell you. It used to be that into each generation a Slayer is born, one girl in all the world, a Chosen One, one born with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires... but that’s changed. Now there are many, many more…”
