AN: The idea came from researching about Friday the 13th. According to Wikipedia: “Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they are simply unable to get out of bed when Friday the 13th arrives. The Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute estimates that more than 67 million people are affected by a fear of this day.” Also to note, “fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia”, which is how the title came to be.
Big thanks to Ava for her beta’ing this piece despite being crazy busy, means a lot hun! xoxo

“So, ah what does this Mark of Gachnar look like again?” Standing casually in the middle of the office Dean glanced at their surroundings.

Plaques from various scholastic achievements were the only things that adorned the white walls while the rest of the room was filled with two beige filing cabinets and a large, dark mahogany desk. The only personal affects, other than the plaques, in the office was the barely surviving fern that hung from a chain next to the south facing window.

Flicking the beam from the flashlight downwards he scanned the floor for any odd markings.

“Don’t you ever listen to Giles when he does his whole – whole Giles-y thing?” Buffy placed a manicured hand on her hip as she turned. With a raised eyebrow she watched him shrug nonchalantly before he resumed his search.

“Fear demon?” Buffy fidgeted nervously as Dean kept silent, forcing her to continue. “Feeds off people’s fears. People freak out about Friday the thirteenth providing a smorgasbord for our little demon. And – and this Doctor seems all about dabbling in the dark stuff and using his patients fear for – for evil things.”

Smirking, “Not paying attention much either, huh?” Dean shook his head at the slight pout that caused her lips to curl.

“Hey! I was listening!” Adamantly Buffy nodded her head, causing her blonde tresses to bounce around her shoulders. “I’m all about the listening when Giles talks.” Using her Slayer speed she shot her hand out, pulling the flashlight from Dean’s grasp. Smirking she turned and made her way to the opposite end of the room.

Grinding his teeth, Dean’s gait ate up the space between them. Even without enhanced speed and strength, a life of hunting had trained him to be faster than most and he managed to wrap his arms around Buffy’s waist before she could pull away.

Moments passed before Buffy released the tension from her shoulders, snuggling into the warm embrace. With a quiet voice she spoke, “I know it’s got some star thingy in the middle. And – and I want to say some weird Greek looking symbols.”

Sheepishly she shifted her head to side and tilted her chin up. “I got bored.”
