She increased her pace in attempt to keep up. The first stop had been to buy a couple of robes and a cloak, one of the robes she now wore so not to stand out so much. Next stop a wand.
She entered the dimly lit room and followed him to the counter. A small man suddenly appeared out of nowhere, she didn’t even flinch. She tilted her head and really looked at him, he wasn’t human. She brought her gaze to the man beside her with a questioning look. He returned it with a slight nod.
“Miss Summers, what a delightful surprise. I heard you were dead.”
“Well, you know, rumors can be misleading and its Eliza now.” He looked into her eyes for a moment before nodding his head in agreement.
“Been a while since I serviced a slayer, nearly eighty years. All slayer wands have come from my family!” He stated before going to the back of the store. He returned a few minutes later with five wands. He laid them out on the counter.
“All five wands are made out of Ash, 11 inches, soaked in holy water for seven years, seven months, seven days.” Gently he picked up the first wand and turned to Buffy. “Core is vampire blood. Take it and give it a flick, go on now.” She took the wand in her hand and flicked and felt a twinge in her scar. All of the wand boxes on the shelf flew off and landed on the floor. Buffy’s eyes widened in shock and quickly set the wand down.
“I am so sorry!”
“Think nothing of it.” And with mumbled word and swish of his wand, the damage was repaired.
“Core is twice blessed sliver. Lethal to most demons and of course werewolves. Here you go.” Once again Buffy picked of the wand. This time she could hear glass breaking.
“Maybe I’m not meant to do this.”
“Nonsense!” He replied, absently repairing the damage before going to the next wand. “The wand chooses the wizard. One will choose you.” He held out the next one to her.
“Unicorn’s blood.” She flicked the wand and a small sliver light split out. It reminded Buffy of a water hose.
“Closer.” The clerk replied taking the wand back. He went to grab the next wand, then stopped and turned back towards Buffy.
“A slayer’s wand is different than most wands. They tend to represent the owners life instead of the owners magic. Take for instance, the first wand, vampire’s blood. The last slayer to own that wand mainly fought vampires. The second wand’s owner mostly dealt with demons. The one with unicorn blood died within a year and a half.”
“What does that have to do with unicorn blood?” Buffy interrupted.
“Unicorn blood is sometimes called a cursed cure. You see, the blood will cure anything returning that person to full health, but it also reduces that person’s life by half. Much like being called, you get enhanced abilities but most slayers rarely live three years after being called. My dear, please tell me about your life as a slayer. This will help greatly.”
Buffy turned towards the man that had been silently standing behind her.
“He can be trusted. Just be quick about it, we don’t have all day.” He replied with a scowl. Buffy turned back to the wand maker and proceeded to tell him everything from the time that she was called to what laid her to standing in the shop buying a wand.
Nodding his head, he quickly hurried to the back of the shop once again. When he returned, he was carrying a tray with about ten small jars and a wand.
“I want you to close your eyes and hold your hand over the jars. Let me know which one calls to you.” He set the tray before her. Glancing once more at the man behind her, who had a look that clearly said hurry it up, she took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she released it and held her hand over the jars.
Immediately she felt a pull in two directions. Moving her hand to one direction till her hand was over a jar she replied “This one” and moved her hand to the other one “and this one”.
The Ollivander took the jars and the wand off the tray and set them on the counter will sending the tray to the back room.
“Yes, yes, should of guess. Makes since, with what happened.” He said as he opened the jars. “Unicorn’s blood to represent your life and death. A phoenix feather, from who belonged to Merlin himself, to represent your return to life. Should have known.” After he sealed the wand, he turned with a flourish, handing the wand to Buffy. “Go ahead, give it a flick.” Buffy give it a flick which resulted with silvery white fireworks shooting out the end.
“Eleven inch Ash wood soaked in holy water four seven years, seven months, seven days, with a core of unicorn blood, freely given, and a feather from Merlin’s phoenix. That will be seven galleons.” He put the wand in a case and then handed it to Buffy will the man behind her laid the money on the counter.
“Oh, and Miss Eliza,” Buffy look back, “Your secret is safe with me. I wish you a long and healthy life as a witch.” And with that he was gone.
Buffy turned back towards the door. It seemed like getting the wand made all of this real, a new life, never again to know as Buffy Summers. A single tear unknowingly made its way down her check. Her mother and father were dead; her friends believed that she was dead and would never know any different. And Giles, her watcher, who was planning on joining her when it was safe, died in some freak accident, a drunk driver. And all of this because she was alive, she had defied a prophecy, resulting in another called, while she was still alive, so the council wanted her, to see if it could be done again, to see how it changed her, to test her, to basically make her a lab rat. Another tear was released. She was alive, and it only cost her life, family, and friends. Taking a deep breath Buffy braced her self and then walked out. As she passed through the door, Buffy Summers died a finale time, and she was reborn Eliza Snape, a normal witch, come to live with her ‘father’ following her mother’s death.
