Winter time in Sunnydale was not fun for vampires. Spike holed up in a mausoleum with a few modern things like a television set and blankets, and other things to get through the cold winter. He sat cozily in a chair thinking about Buffy and her sister Dawn.
Sipping warm blood out of a mug, he watched television for a while and was not aware that someone was approaching the door to his home. Feeling the brisk winter air rushing through the vast space of his temporary home, Spike turns and sees that Dawn and Buffy have come to visit him.
“It is wonderful outside. Don’t be a grouchy sheltered vampire, Spike. Come out and go ice skating with us,” Dawn said, staring at him. Spike shook his head and looked at Buffy, waiting to see if she would say anything to him. “Oh, just say you will come with us. If you don’t, we will pick you up and drag you with us,” she said, walking toward him slowly.
Spike stood up and grabbed his jacket. “Oh very bloody well then. If I really have to, then I will,” he said grumpily. Dawn and Buffy looked at each other and laughed, knowing that they would have their way. All three of them marched out of the mausoleum and headed to the ice skating rink, singing rude songs and having a blast.
Buffy took Spike by the hand and skated with him while Dawn went off and hung out with her friends who decided to show up just then. Spike smiles softly as he stares at Buffy, his old feelings for her rushing back. They skated the whole night and when Dawn came back over to them, Spike stepped back and said,” The sun is about to rise. I had a good time, surprisingly. Thank you both for inviting me to come along.” The girls grinned and said he was welcome and then watched as he walked off. They headed home themselves and fell fast asleep, visions of ice skating and falling snow making them dream good dreams.
Spike on the other hand, dreamt of what it would be like if he ever gave Buffy and him a second chance. He fell asleep in his chair with the television on, dreaming of her and him skating together and being the only two people in the world. Of course he knew that it could never happen but hey, dreams can be anything you want them to be.
When the sun went down, Spike woke up and fed, making sure to leave the victim alive so that Buffy would not stake him for it. He tried his best to change his old ways and once she realized it, he would be the happiest vampire in the world. A few months later, he bumped into her at a club and asked her to dance.
Buffy smiled at him and said yes. After that night, the two decided to give things another shot and have been together ever since. They have their ups and downs but still manage to make things work between them. Dawn is quite thrilled to have the two of them together for she was one of the first to see the sparks fly between the two of them whenever they were in the same room.
All three live in peaceful bliss in Buffy’s house and make sure that no one and nothing tries to hurt them. They protect each other and hunt together, although Spike hunts for blood and Dawn and Buffy hunt vampires to turn them to dust. I guess opposites do attract after all.
