Arriving at Hogwarts Pt 1
Disclaimer is in the first chapter.
Yes, I have gaping plot holes, it's on purpose, everything gets explained as the story goes on. It's just my writing style, sorry if it bothers people. Also, Dawn will not be a super-powered witch Mary-Sue type, I promise. I try to stay away from that. Yes, she does have a lot of power, I like to believe that the Key got converted into Wicca-power-ness, it will be explained in time. Sorry there's so much time between postings, school got really hectic and tried to eat my soul (then it learned I didn't have one). Summer vacation is almost here so I'll be posting more often. If anyone is interested in Beta-ing my story, please, email me! I'm desperate!!! Love reviews, they make me post faster. Also, pairings are already decided and established in the story before the story takes place. There will be slash and fem-slash but nothing graphic, just mentioned that girls are together or boys are together. Please don't flame for for it 0=)
On with the story.
(PS, remember, nothing is as it first seems. also, I know I established Lucius is disguising himself as Snape, but I will be referring to him as Snape until the disguise is complete. sorry for any confusion)
Dawn’s eyes flashed back. With a wave of her hand Weasley flew out of the compartment and into the wall behind it. Potter and Granger stared at her in shock. They couldn’t seem to form words as Weasley tried to get to his feet. Lucius disguised as Severus swept into the compartment.
“What’s going on here?” He asked coolly.
“Bloody hell you bastard! Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Dawn asked in shocked outrage. “Get the hell away from my family!”
“I merely came to see what the noise was, Miss Malfoy,” He corrected.
“Summers. My father’s name was Hank Summers. I never knew my biological father, nor do I care to because he’s a self-center git who I am going to personally murder!”
“What was the noise, Miss Malfoy?” Lucius asked, raising an eyebrow at the fuming girl.
“Frankly it’s not of your damn business, but if you must know Weasley insulted my brother and, indirectly of course, mocked my dead half-sister. And unless you want to make a bad impression on your first year teaching I’d suggest that you exit the car immediately before I am forced to teach you a lesson I learned from my other half-sister.” Dawn said, her voice going into a monotone as her eyes flashed to black and stayed that way. Draco whimpered and curled closer to her, away from everyone else.
“This is not my first year teaching and I will not be threatened by a mere girl, Miss Malfoy. I suggest you mind your manners before you land a detention before school even starts.” Lucius threatened.
“You’d love that, wouldn’t you? All alone with me? Ha. You’re a sick man, a sick man. Luckily, I’m just here to take care of my brother. You’ll never catch him alone, and Dumbledore will find you out. Now leave.” Dawn glared daggers at the older man, the mere force of her gaze forcing him out of the car.
“That was a Professor!” Granger said, astonished.
Dawn ignored her, looking instead to her shaking twin. “Sh, Dusk. He’s gone. He won’t be back again if he knows what’s good for him. I think he thinks Buff and I are alike in our special-ness.”
Draco managed a small grin for her. “H-he’s sc-scared of Bu-buffy.”
“How can you talk like that to a professor you don’t even know?” Granger exclaimed.
“You’re still here?” Dawn asked in surprise. “And I do know that bastard, and I will kill him soon. Now why don’t you three leave? You’ve way overstayed your welcome.”
Granger huffed as she and Potter left, the door slid closed behind them. Silence befell the car again, broken only by Draco’s near-silent sobs.
“It’s okay Dusk; he won’t hurt you as long as I’m around. And Buffy will be here soon. We worked it out with Dumbledore so that we could share a room near the Slytherin Common room.” None of this seemed to comfort Draco.
The compartment door slid open again and a red head came into the room quietly and closed the door. She turned around and glared down at Draco. “How dare you, Draco Summers! You don’t write; I have no idea what happened to you, where you were, if your father got you! Do you know how worried I was?”
“S-sorry G-gi-gin.” Draco muttered, sitting up shakily.
She turned to Dawn. “You must be Dawn. I’m Ginny Wesley, Draco’s girlfriend.” She held out her hand.
“Nice to meet you. Maybe you can calm him down. Lucius is taking a polyjuice potion to look like Severus and we just had a visit from him. I’ll leave you two alone.” Dawn shook her hand, then stood. “Dusk, honey, I’ll be right back.”
Dawn left the compartment and wandered around the train a little bit, looking for a bathroom. As she passed a compartment she heard her brother’s name mentioned, being naturally overprotective and curious she decided to eavesdrop.
“What was up with Malfoy back there?” Granger’s voice asked.
“Who cares?” Weasley and Potter chorused.
“What I want to know is about that hot girl with him. Is she really his sister?” Weasley said, “I didn’t know he had a sister.”
“And what was with her reaction to Snape? I know he’s a complete git, but why would a Malfoy of all people hate him?” Potter added.
“Maybe you should just ask her.” A new voice suggested. “I think she’s standing outside the compartment.”
“I guess that’s my cue to enter.” Dawn remarked, doing just that. She stopped to take in the other members of the compartment. “Luna?”
“Dawn?” She asked, just as startled.
“What are you doing here?” They chorused, then grinned at each other. “I thought you died a while ago. No, I’ve avoided it.”
“We’re going to start that again?” Dawn said, smiling.
“I didn’t mean to!” Luna argued. “At least we’re meeting under better circumstances.” Both girls laughed at that comment.
“It’s nice to see you again.” Dawn remarked.
“You were the girl with Malfoy?” Luna asked.
“Yeah, apparently Buffy never told me that Hank Summers wasn’t my biological father, a man named Lucius Malfoy is. I’m Draco’s twin, and the future assassin of Lucius, if I can beat Buffy there and beat-” Dawn looked down for a moment. “If I can beat Buffy there.”
“Who else where you going to say?” Potter asked, interested despite himself.
Dawn glanced nervously at Luna. “An old dead, dead friend. He died saving the world, though he really wanted to kill Lucius for what he did.”
“He saved the world?” Luna asked, incredulous.
“Yeah, he got a soul.”
“Yeah.” Dawn didn’t meet Luna’s eyes. “Sorry, he kind of wouldn’t let Buffy die again.”
“Idiot.” Luna muttered.
“How do you two know each other?” Potter interrupted.
“She was raised by the old friend of mine, before he became our friend, and his girlfriend. They kidnapped me and we bonded.” Dawn explained.
The other three in the compartment looked at her in shock.
“Never mind.” She shook her head. “Anyway, I came in here to warn you away from my twin. You leave him alone this year or else you’ll have to face me. No calling him Malfoy, no teasing him, leave him completely alone!”
“Why should we?” Weasley demanded. “He’s never given us any reason to leave him alone.”
“Be that as it may, you don’t know the circumstances of the summer so you stay away from him!” Dawn turned on heel and began to march out of the door. “Oh, and watch out for ‘Snape’, all is not as it appears. Remember your fourth year.”
Dawn left the car completely and continued to wander through the cars, looking for her own this time. She didn’t notice she was being followed until too late. She was slammed against the wall by a strong male and held there. She glared at her captors to find Potter and Weasley holding her while Granger stood in front of her.
“Why are you here?” Granger asked.
“To protect my Dusk and to learn some control over my magic.” Dawn replied easily.
“Liar, why would someone want to protect Malfoy?” Weasley snarled. “Nobody in that family knows anything about family loyalty.
“Maybe that bastard Lucius doesn’t, but my family knows a shit load about loyalty. And second chances after people have done wrong and try to reform.” Dawn shot back.
“Malfoy doesn’t want to reform; he’s just a daddy’s boy, soon-to-be-Death-Eater, and no good, rotten Slytherin scum.” Potter countered.
“How dare you.” Dawn said lowly, her entire demeanor becoming darker. “How dare you.”
“How dare I what? Say that Malfoy is the scum he is?” Potter taunted.
“Dawn! Dawn, Dawn, Dawn! Come on Dawnie, come back to me, come on Dawnie.” Luna chanted running up to them. “Dawnie, Golden Rule, come on Dawnie, don’t go Faith-y on me now. The Golden Rule, Dawnie, you don’t want to break it.” She glanced at the two boys. “Let go of her already. Somebody go get Draco.”
“Why?” Weasley asked.
“Because he’s needed here, now. Run as fast as you can!” Luna said, sounding serious for the first time that they all had known her. Granger took off at a run.
“Don’t try to stop me, Night. Move out of the way.” Dawn ordered, trying to push past her.
“Do you want to awaken the dead, dead?” Luna demanded.
“I don’t care. Nobody insults my twin or my family.” Dawn tried to push past again, Draco showed up just then.
“What’s going on Dawn?” he asked.
“Nothing, just taking out the trash,” She looked at Luna, “Or at least trying to.”
“Dawnie, we’re almost at school, don’t leave me alone.”
Immediately Dawn softened. “Just you three wait when Draco’s in bed and Luna isn’t around to protect you.” She glared, then wrapped her arms around Draco. “I’m so sorry honey, did I scare you?” He shook his head. “Well let’s go get your robes changed so that you’re ready.”
“D-d-dumbledore?” Draco asked.
“After the sorting, Dusk.” Dawn helped him off the train and into a carriage without much difficulty.
They made it up into the school and to the House table with no incident, but once they got there it was a different story. It was a well known fact that Slytherin’s were mostly Death-Eater’s children, so they all knew what happened with Draco. He and Dawn sat at the edge of their table, but the Slytherins went out of their way to ‘greet’ them. They fell silent through the Sorting, then started up again as the food appeared, nobody cared who the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was, they just wanted to make the former Slytherin Prince miserable. Finally Draco couldn’t take it any more and he ran, Dawn followed, Snape followed, McGonagall followed. Dawn reached Draco first as he slumped against a wall in a corner of the dungeons.
“Dusk, I’m so sorry,” Dawn said as she gathered him up into her lap, rocking him back and forth.
“N-not your fa-fault.” Draco muttered, relaxing a little in her arms.
Snape reached them within seconds, robes billowing as he glared down at the pair. “Mr. Malfoy, what was the meaning of that little escapade.”
“Oh stick it up your ass, Lucius. You can’t have him,” Dawn glared tiredly, too worn to bother getting angry. “Now leave before I decide to kill you here and now.”
McGonagall stopped in shock, just behind a corner, listening to their conversation with growing interest.
