Summary: “I’ve seen some of these underworld child bride deals and they never end well. Well, maybe once.” What one time underworld child bride was Anya referring to in Once More With Feeling? Sarah from the Labyrinth, of course.

Disclaimer: BtVS is property of Mutant Enemy Productions (Joss Whedon). Labyrinth belongs to The Jim Henson Company. I own nothing.

A.N.: For the sake of continuity, please ignore the fact that Anya probably did not have enough time to think this much between her lines. Also ignore Return to Labyrinth, canon sequel or not, I haven’t read it and don’t plan to.

“Uh, Dawn may have had the wrong idea in summoning this creature, but ... I've seen some of these underworld child bride deals and, and they never end well. Well, maybe once.”

That all depends on who you ask, though. Jareth, the Goblin King, wasn’t too happy after his Queen took off with her brother after he was forced to release his power over her. The girl though, well it’s been years since she bested the Labyrinth so I guess she’s a woman by now, she’s probably happy enough.

It makes for pretty good gossip in demon circles, even though it happened over a decade ago. Word is, or was as I’ve been out of the loop for a while, that he’s still trying to woo her back. She doesn’t even know beating Jareth made her co-ruler of the Labyrinth, his Queen. It’s pretty funny, actually.

This isn’t Jareth’s work, no matter what the random bursting into songs might suggest. Goblins and stealing away unwanted children are more his thing, not manikin demons and people bursting into flame.

Hmmm, maybe I should invite Jareth to the wedding. Probably not, he might think I’m rubbing it in his face that I found love with a mortal while he’s been moping after his Queen for around 15 years now.

Wait, Spike sang too? A CD of all these songs would be an excellent way to make money.

“Would you say it was a breakaway pop hit or more of a book number?”
