Author's note: This is my first ever attempt at fanfic, let alone songfic, so be gentle with me. Anyone not flaming can have a cookie :)

They danced slowly to the soft music in the centre of the candlelit living room, her head resting on his chest, both their eyes closed- as close, and yet as far apart, as two people could be.

Off to the side was the small table where they had earlier devoured their intimate meal for two. Her idea. Almost like an apology. And, God, had it been awkward.

Their conversation had been stilted and laughter forced as they tried to ignore the one thing they were both dwelling on: HER.

SHE stood between them, and yet neither could bring themselves to blame HER. Everyone SHE had met had been touched by HER warmth, him most of all, and he had been the one most heart-broken when the fire that was HER, inside and out, was extinguished.

His hand absentmindedly stroked the red hair of the petite witch pressed against his chest- red like HERS- as the song changed.

Her hair is soft
And her eyes are oh so blue
She’s all the things a girl should be
But she’s not you.

The hand on her waist tightened briefly and he thought back to when this had started, this sorrowful game of pretend love where, in the end, they would both be losers.

She knows just how to make me laugh
When I feel blue
She’s everything a man could want
But she’s not you.

He’d been wallowing in a pit of despair after the loss of HER. Shocked and guilty that SHE had died to save him, bastard that he was. And she had come along, like HER reborn, and pulled him free with the solace of sex.

In the months that followed, he’d started to come to terms with his grief. Their arrangement never changed; they saw each other only at night and for one thing only, and when the sun came up, he left. Until a week ago, when she’d professed her love for him and asked him not to leave with the rising of the sun.

And when we’re dancing
It almost feels the same
I gotta stop myself from
Whisp’rin your name.

He’d apologized, she’d understood and he’d made his exit with the dawn as usual. Right. Like it was that simple. Like they could just go back to how things were before.

He couldn’t love her, his heart still belonged to HER, and he was no longer the bastard he once was, the one that would have used this replacement, even knowing how she felt, and shattered her heart in the process. Better not to give her false hope now by continuing this make-believe.

She even kisses me like
You used to do
And it’s just breaking my heart
‘Cause she’s not you.

He sighs softly, still swaying, voice low. “I can’t give you what you want.”

“I know, Draco,” she whispers after a long pause. “So, this is the end.”

He hears the beginning of tears in her voice and bows his head, shamed.

“Forgive me, Ginny?”

“Always. I miss Willow, too, you know.”

“I know.”

And it’s just breaking my heart
‘Cause she’s not you.
