Disclaimer: I don't own Angel.
"Boss, your one o'clock is here."
Harmony's voice broke through the arguments being thrown around Angel's office. Everyone broke off what they were saying. Several eyes rolled. They all knew that the situation and their thoughts on it would have to wait. Yet again. After all, they had an evil corporation to run.
"Get her some coffee and a magazine. It'll be a minute," Angel barked back through the intercom, the annoyance in his voice clear.
A cheery "You got it, Boss" was the only reply.
"Guess this conversation is over."
Gunn stood from the arm of the chair he had been sitting on and headed for the door. Once again he was wearing a hoodie and jeans. He hadn't worn a suit since Fred had died. It shamed him too much to know that it was his fault that she had died. He had made a deal with a devil named Wolfram and Hart. He had pulled Illyria's sarcophagus out of Customs. Just to have a permanent upgrade of the lawyer knowledge that W&H had uploaded into his head. Just so that he could feel special.
To be honest, Gunn was glad to get out of Angel's office. He could barely stomach being in a room with them all. He still felt he deserved no forgiveness and almost resented his friends for giving it anyway. Gunn's hand was on the door handle when Angel stopped him.
"Wait. Could you guys stay?" Angel asked looking uncomfortable. "This girl is here for a job interview and I don't really know how to do these things."
Gunn, Wesley, Lorne, and Spike all looked at Angel in surprise. Spike actually laughed.
"Surely, there have been other job interviews since we took over Wolfram and Hart," Wesley said, looking to Angel for confirmation.
"No, not really," Angel told him. "People have heard things have changed around here. They know that Wolfram and Hart isn't a safe haven for evil anymore. And, apparently, we aren't good enough
for the good guys to want in."
Gunn reluctantly sat back down on his chair arm.
"All right, send her in.We'll ask if she's evil and, if she is, we'll kick her to the curb," he said seriously.
"Good idea, I'm sure she'll answer that one truthfully," Spike said full of sarcasm.
"Oh, yeah? You got any ideas, Blondie Bear," Gunn said using Harmony's old nickname for Spike just for spite.
"Yeah, I figure having Kermit over here read her is a much better idea than yours," Spike pointed at Lorne.
Everyone looked at Lorne.
"Hey, I'm in," he told them. "Just don't blame me if you don't like what's written," Lorne added under his breath.
"Ok," Angel replied, sounding relieved, before pressing the intercom and telling Harmony to send the girl in.
