“One day we’ll be grown up and we can leave.” The small blonde declared excitedly as they strolled through the small woods.
“Where will we go?” The dark haired boy asked tripping slightly over a large root.
“France, Germany, Spain, the States, Who cares? We can go anywhere, everywhere, travel the world.” She shrugged grabbing a low branch and swinging from it. “As long as it’s far away from my parents and your aunt and uncle it’ll be great.”
“Just me and you, noone else around to bug us.” He smiled as she dropped to the ground. “We can get married.” he offered shyly.
“Ok.” she shrugged as they moved out of the woods into the park. “Swings are free, push me?” She asked running over. “Higher Harry!” She squealed closing her eyes as her long blonde hair whipped around her.
“Buffy be careful!” He cried as she leapt from the swing landing gracefully on her feet. “Your going to break your neck one of these days.” he sighed shaking his head at her antics.
“You should try it, it’s like flying.” She grinned as they walked down the quiet street. Her smile faded as they approached their houses, they could clearly her angry shouts of Buffy’s parents latest argument.
“Buffy.” he began unsurely his green eyes meeting her sad blue ones.
“One day I’m just going to run away.” She admitted quietly. “Will you come with me?”
“Of course.” he smiled.
“No, I’m not kidding Harry.” She said seriously taking his hand. “Would you really come with me?”
“I promise.” He nodded. “You go, I go, just say the word. Promise you won't leave without me?”
“I promise.” She smiled.
“It’s not like I asked to be born.” Buffy sighed laying back against the cool grass and staring up at the sky.
“Their your parents, they love you.” Harry began.
“They don’t even love each other.” She scoffed. “My Mum realized my dad was gonna leave her so she had me to trap him, now their both stuck with me. You know it’s been ten days since either of them even spoke a word to me. I could vanish into thin air and they wouldn’t even notice.”
“I’d notice.” He replied sitting up and looking down at her.
“We’ll always be friends won't we?” She asked hopefully.
“Best friends.” He smiled.
“Buffy what’s wrong?” Harry asked concerned seeing her tear stained face.
“Their done pretending, their splitting up.” She explained through her tears. “I heard them fighting last night about who gets stuck with me.”
“Maybe this will be better, you never know.” He offered unsurely.
“No it won't, Mom lost, we’re moving to America.” Buffy sobbed as he wrapped his arms around her.
“I’ll be back for the summer, it’s part of their deal.” Buffy promised sadly. “Promise you won't forget all about me?”
“I could never forget you.” he said blinking back his own tears. “Remember all you have to do is say the word and we can just disappear.”
“I wish it was that easy.” She sighed hugging him tightly. “I have to go, our plane leaves soon.”
“I’ll see you in nine months.” He nodded painfully letting her go. “Don’t forget.” he called after her causing her to pause. “Seven more years and then they can’t control us anymore.”
“We’ll travel the world.” She said with a watery smile.
“Then we’ll get married and I’ll buy you a house with a swing that you can jump off like a maniac anytime you want.” He grinned.
“It’s a nice dream.” She sighed.
“It’s not a dream, it’s a promise.” He said causing her to smile. “Nothings going to change. I’ll see you in nine months.”
Neither were aware or prepared but both their lives were about to change forever. Buffy’s by a stuffy British man claiming it was up to her to save the world and Harry’s by a half giant telling him he was an wizard. The only thing that remained the same was each summer when they returned to Privet Drive. Another year older and wiser with the weight of the world firmly resting on their shoulders, not that they ever knew that the other shared a similar fate. For one month out of the year they could pretend nothing had changed, that nothing bad would ever truly happen, that their dreams we’re still a possibility. That was until Five years later, when reality was shoved in their faces.
