A/N: Thank you guys so much for your response to this, it really made me happy and hurry and get the next chapter out (and come up with an outline). This is a Tara centered fic and will follow her as she becomes Lenore so it will be awhile until Willow or any of the Scoobies make an appearance, it might even take awhile for the Winchester brothers to make their way into this. Enjoy and please review, I want to know what you guys think and constructive criticism is very welcome.

Chapter 2 Feed

She knew they were watching her, she could feel their eyes following her as she pushed her way out of the establishment and she could clearly hear the whispered words they exchanged almost drowned out by the overwhelming rushing of the blood in their veins and their steady heartbeats.

She had to get out of their fast.

She walked away knowing Eli would find her, that the man her mother had left her with if anything happened would know where she would be.

He hadn’t asked where she was so that meant he already knew.

Tara wondered if he had been watching her, if he knew this was going to happen. It sounded like that, he had told her not to feed, he knew what she had become. So how come no one had ever told her this is what her life could be?

She could still fell Willow’s arms around her as she had died.

Tara sunk down on a curb burying her head in her hands as the tears started to fall and she cried silently. Everything was just so messed up, her life wasn’t suppose to be this way.

She had been happy.

They had just gotten back together.

“Can you just be kissing me now?”

She didn’t know how long she cried there. The tears had stopped falling and she was so tired as she held herself. The hunger had faded to a distant ache overcome by the grief she felt.

It felt like she had lost Willow.

She ached for her.

She heard the car pull up beside the road a couple of feet behind her and she lifted her head resting her arms on her knees and waited. The man that got out was fit and tall with dark hair and a goatee that was speckled with grey.

It was the eyes she noticed most as he walked towards her, they were so familiar.

She had been young the last time she had saw him, so young it was barely even a memory just an impression that this wasn’t eh first time they had come face to face.

“Tara?” the man asked softly and she stood nodding.

“You must be Eli?” she approached him her arms wrapped around her midsection. She was just so tired and confused and she knew he had the answers.

She had never been afraid of Spike. She hadn’t known him when he was evil and she could never reconcile the man that fought beside them as every being evil. She knew the others remembered though and that is where their animosity came from.

She had always felt an affinity for him though; he was like her, a member of the group but not quite, always on the fringes unable to penetrate the close bonds that held Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Giles.

Anya hadn’t been aware of the distance, but Tara had and so had Spike.

She had once asked him how he controlled his hunger.

He had told her he didn’t.

She hadn’t understood then, she did now. It felt like it would never go away. She had never been this hungry, this desperate for something that made her feel sick of to think about.

“I know a safe place.” Eli was telling her softly “It’s not too far from here.”

Tara nodded and got in the truck slipping easily into the passenger seat unaware of the unnatural grace she exhibited. There was no thought of not trusting him. She didn’t have a choice; there was no one else she could trust.

He got in the truck rumbling and he pulled away from the curb the wheels eating up the road as Tara watched Sunnydale fly past from the window. Tears filled her eyes as she wondered if she would ever see it again and a sob caught in her throat at never seeing Willow again, of never holding her, of never again being held be her.

She needed her so bad that pain overrode the hunger.

“Are you a vampire?” Tara asked Eli softly needing to feel the silence, not wanting to be left alone with her thoughts. She turned to him turning away from the town now falling behind them.

“Yes.” He admitted softly his eyes meeting hers briefly before going back to the road “So are you. Your mother hoped you would never find out.”

“Was she a vampire?” Tara remembered seeing her mother in the bed, knowing that she was dying and that there was nothing that could stop it.

Eli nodded “She was, she refused to feed. Her body gave out on her.” There was an old motel and Eli pulled in in front of one of the rooms cutting the engine and turning to her “You need to feed right away, after I tell you anything you want to know.”

Tara didn’t say anything, just followed him into one of the rooms. She was terrified, she knew what she was but she hadn’t thought of what she actually had to do, she didn’t want to hurt anyone. She didn’t want to be a monster.

“I don’t want to hurt anyone.” She said aloud fear tingeing her words.

Eli gave her a warm smile his eyes sad as he told her confidently “You don’t have to, some do but we only take enough to survive and then only off the willing.” He knocked on one of the connecting doors and a young man came out looking at her curiously.

She could hear his heart beat and her head swam with the knowledge of the warm and rich blood that rushed through his veins.

Tara backed up unsure of what was expected of her and Eli told her softly “This is Jake, your first feeding has to be from a living human and he volunteered.” Eli guided her over to one of the chairs sitting her down and Tara wondered how many people had done with this.

Jake came to stand in front of her and Eli drew a dagger sliding it down Jake’s wrist a fat line of crimson forming as he cut into the skin. The smell hit her first and Tara feel fangs burst forth from her gums almost painful as they tore at the skin for the first time. Tara looked from the blood to Eli and swallowed lowering her head to lick at the blood.

The flavor burst in her mouth and she couldn’t help the way her fangs sank roughly into his skin. He had done this before because he didn’t jerk, didn’t wince as she let herself numb the ache in her stomach the world around her settling down as she feed.

She knew there was no going back from this, this would be her life whether she wanted it or not.
