part 3

AN:I swear after this the chapters get longer. I'm transferring this from hand written to the computer and didn't have a lot of time so I broke it up a little.

“I can’t believe I’m even considering this.” Eric said under his breath as he stared off into the distance.

But he knew why he was considering it, why he’d already decided to do it. Hope, one of the best and worst things in the world to have. Because of all the things he thought his brain would throw at him this was not one of them.

He knew he’d never heard the name Xander before. I’m mean really, those parent’s must have been out of their minds to name a kid that.

“Speed, before I decide anything I’m gonna talk to H o.k.?”

“Yes Eric… it’s not like I have much else to do. I am dead remember?” Speed said a little sardonically.

Eric had the good grace to blush at that.

“I’ll talk to H on one condition, if he doesn’t know anything about this Xander guy you leave me alone. Deal?”

“Eric, you do know how crazy you sound right now? You believe I’m a hallucination but you’re trying to make a deal with me.”

“The way I see it, if you are a figment of my imagination, then I’m just making a bargain with myself. Since I usually keep my bargains I’m in no way bad off.” Eric said with a small grin.

Chuckling softly Speed said “Fine you have a deal but I want to be there when you talk to Horatio.”

“Despite the fact that I couldn’t stop you if I tried, why do you want to be there?”

“To see H’s face when you ask him and maybe to coach you a little bit on what you may need to say.”

“This may be a stupid question but why would you need to coach me?”

“Because some of what H will tell you is stuff I made him promise not to talk about. Kind of like Brazil for the two of you. Besides I want H to know I’m here remember? I want both of you to help me.”

“Fine, whatever this is giving me a headache. I’m heading to Horatio’s house now. I assume you have your own way of getting there.” Eric snarked mildly.

“First of all I do snark so much better than you and second, one of these days I’m going to make you kiss my ass.” Speed said as he started to fade away.

Eric wondered what he was getting into besides getting ready to make himself look crazy in front of his boss. He got into his car and drove to Horatio’s house. When he got there he sat behind the wheel of his car and stared at the dash. He had been determinedly not thinking about what it would mean if H confirmed what Speed was saying. What did that make Speed? Some kind of ghost? The thought also crossed his mind that if Speed was real, then how long had he been hanging around unable to interact with his friends. He shuddered at what that would be like. He took a deep breath and got out of the car.
