Journeys in Metropolis Part Four
Title: Jounerys in Metropolis Part 4
Summary: Dawn gets a present she didn’t like.
Flowers were the first present Dawn got. She threw them away.
The second present was chocolates. She walked around the city until she found a homeless man. He’d thanked her kindly, unwrapping the chocolates with something akin to awe.
Dawn was glad the present went to some good use.
The third present was a bracelet. She gave it to her roommate, on the condition Kara never wore it around her. Her roommate, the peppy princess she was, readily agreed. The bracelet looked expensive.
Dawn didn’t care.
The fourth present was one she kept. She couldn’t throw it away. She couldn’t bear to. The beautifully hand crafted wood piece was something she would keep for as long as she lived. She didn’t know how many attempts it would have taken Tim to finish it, but when she opened the box tears filled her eyes.
Sitting in there, surrounded by soft pink tissue paper, was a mahogany coloured sculpture of herself, as Eos, kissing him, as Robin.
When Xander had started teaching Tim to carve in his free time while Dawn was trying to get them back to their dimension, she had laughed.
But now she regretted it.
Because that piece made her reconsider the last year. The pain he’d put her through. The exhausted, tearful nights where she couldn’t sleep…
The effort, the pain she knew he felt in that carving, made it all change.
With a shaking hand she picked up the phone.
