Summary: Buffy hesitates.

AN – Thoughts \\I am thinking.//

AN – Mental communication *Who are you?*

Xander was getting bored. It had been well over an hour since Aura entered the house and still no call had come. Neither had she fled in tears like he expected if her FWB rejected her.

He’d been tempted to enter and check on things but refrained in order to continue to build the trust needed between Aura and himself.

\\She did say she thought she could sense when I’m around, so it’s better I stay outside,// he mused as he completed another circuit of the house to see if any danger might be around.

That was his story and he was sticking to it. If there had been any observers they might comment instead that he was pacing.

Suddenly he was pulled out of his worry funk by a powerful jerk towards the house and he quickly found himself passing through the wall on the second floor. Once inside he flew quickly towards one of the two people in the room. He barely had time to acknowledge arriving in Aura’s outer consciousness when he was pulled into the Bridge environment.

The view screen was dark and Aura’s First Officer avatar was standing in front of him holding a familiar, but anomalous, object.

*Why are you holding a helmet with the blast shield down?* he asked.

The avatar raised an eyebrow with more resemblance to an Original Series Character than any of the Next Gen.

He scowled but took the helmet and put it on.

\\Don’t know what she’s worried about,// he thought to himself grumpily. \\It’s not like the robes I saw them wearing when I came in are all that sexy, even if they are short.//

\\Aw, who am I kidding? They both have legs that go for miles.//

“You’re aware that I’ve never been able to hold a handstand, right?” Aura asked a few moments after she closed her eyes and seemed to shiver.

“Yeah,” replied CeeCee.

Without a word, Aura flipped onto her hands and did a perfect handstand. She then did a vertical push-up and finally held herself aloft using just one hand. She then pushed off that hand and landed right-side up on her feet.

“Wow!” was all CeeCee could say, though whether it was for the acrobatic skill and strength Aura demonstrated or the fact that being upside down had left Aura’s lower torso and legs bared to her sight would be a toss-up.

“Let’s go down to the garage for the next demo,” said Aura.

The both put on slippers and went down to the house door that led to the garage.

After turning on the lights, Aura went to the side of one of the smaller cars and reached underneath with both hands before tilting it up several inches in the air then lowering it slowly back to the ground.

After using a wet wipe from a box in the glove compartment to wipe her hands and assure herself she hadn’t damaged her manicure, she asked, “Is there a crowbar around you’re not concerned if I make it into a pretzel?”

“No, but I think I saw some rebar that was left over from when Mother had the landscapers put in the cement trough for the cascading ponds to empty into,” said CeeCee. “I believe it was on the floor near where Daddy has the grill.”

They found the rebar and Aura did turn it into a pretzel shape with very little problem.

To show her speed, Aura ran around the pool five times in the time that it took CeeCee to lap it once.

“There are some other things but they’re hard to demonstrate, so you’ll just have to take my word for it,” said Aura as they headed back into the house. “Now, before we get back to more pleasant things, I want to ask you, do you want to help out with this gig, other than stress relief?”

“What sort of help?”

“Mr. Giles, in addition to training me, apparently does research on the things that crop up around here in an effort to be better prepared to handle things beyond the run-of-the-mill vampire. Dark rituals that have to be conducted at certain times or with certain artifacts. Different demons that might come to town and how to kill them. It involves mostly reading very old books that aren’t always in English, or any other modern language. Amazingly, there is stuff on the net that can also help but he’s not savvy on how to effectively use computers.”

“Ugh! I hate reading text books as it is. Reading books that aren’t written in English would be a pain,” replied CeeCee. “However, I’m all for having you prepared to deal with the spooks so you don’t get hurt, so I guess I’ll just have to step up and support you the best I can. I do expect you to show your sincere appreciation for the sacrifices I’ll probably have to make. As for the computer stuff, what about Willow? She so tight with Buffy that she would have been their go-to geek.”

“Willow’s probably not going to be around anymore,” said Aura. “Because of the loss of Jesse, Xander and Buffy, Mr. Giles believes she needs to get out of town in order to heal emotionally. Too many bad memories around here for her. He’s going to recommend such to her parents who are arriving tomorrow. And, you can be assured that I will always show you how much I love you for standing by me, despite the craziness that is going to enter our lives because I’m a Slayer.”

“In that case you need your own geek. Of those at school, the least objectionable, and the one least likely to blab, would be Jonathan.”

“I’m lucky to have you, CeeCee,” said Aura sincerely. “So very lucky.”

“I feel the same way about you Aur. It’s nice to have someone I don’t have to wear a mask for. Now let’s really celebrate your super hero status.”

“OK,” said Aura. “Just let me dismiss the Slayer Essence.”

“Why would you want to do that?”

“CeeCee, you remember the rebar? If I lose control during one of your grand induced orgasms, I could hurt you without realizing it. I might even crush your skull with my thighs or snap your neck. It’ll be a lot safer without powers. Maybe someday when I’ve had more practice and experience controlling them, I might see what use I can put them to to give you lots of happys, but I doubt it’ll ever be safe for you to reciprocate unless we find someway to restrain me and keep you safe.”

While he might not be able to see due to the blast shield on the helmet he was wearing, Xander could hear and Aura’s simple comment brought back images of how he ended up in this situation.

\\My head knows what I did to Buffy was not my doing. That my own consciousness was too far submerged by the Primal,// he mused. \\However, I still feel guilty. I still hear her begging me to stop. To fight against the possession. I remember the smell of her fear and the tears that she shed. Plus I have Willow’s memories of how, even though she tried to ignore it because of her own grief, that Buffy was genuinely feeling guilt over my death.//

His internal dialog was interrupted when the helmet was removed from his head.

*You may leave now,* said Aura’s First Officer avatar.

He just nodded and willed himself to the outer reaches of Aura’s mind where he stopped and said, *I’ll wait outside. I can either follow you home when you leave or you can summon me to be prepared on the off chance we run into some of the local nightlife. It’s your choice. Once you get home, unless you need me I’ll try to scout around for where the bad guys hang out so you’ll know where to patrol.*

He didn’t wait for an answer and just left. Not even bothering to look at the two young women in the bedroom as he made his way out of the house.

It was another hour before Aura left her friend’s place. Of course the fact that she left as a passenger in her friend’s red convertible Cirrus meant he didn’t get summoned. Which was alright with him, as he was still bummed out from his memory of what his possessed body had done to Buffy.

Once Aura was safely in her house, he tailed her friend back to her place to ensure she made it okay.

He knew vampires hung out in graveyards at night but where would they hide during the day, since the beach was out? If he could locate some nests they might be able to come up with plans to destroy them while they rested when it would be less dangerous for Aura. There was also the Master that needed to be found and dealt with. Besides, doing this would keep him from going to spend a lot of time watching Willow before she left Sunnydale. He’d said his goodbye already and seeing her again would just cause him more heartache. He needed to move on with his new existence.

With his plan in place, despite being rather light on details, he headed out to see what his ghostly self could discover.
