Hellfire River Zone

Author's Notes: This was going to stay a one-shot, but constantly listening to Sonic's theme song from Sonic Adventure and playing the game got me thinking. I just decided to add this chapter detailing Sonic's trip through the Zone which I have dubbed the Hellfire River Zone, and probably would give gamers a coronary if they actually had to play through something like it. LOL

Disclaimer Addendum: The Song It Doesn't Matter performed by uh, whoever the artist is, for some reason I'm drawing a blank doesn't belong to me. It's used purely to enhance the fan fiction experience. So yeah please don't take it away from me I dig it so much it's the best song ever, well one of them any way.

Anyway. Hope there's some readers who'll comment on this and enjoy it. Pure Sonic, Pure Fun, Hopefully Pure Win.

Sonic had just gathered the seven chaos emeralds and used them to become Super Sonic in order to do battle against Eggman’s ultimate doomsday machine of the week when the strange pull had occurred and he’d found himself in that strange place just in time to save some girl apparently. She’d told him that her blood would be needed to close the portal that he’d somehow changed into a portal to a new Zone where Eggman’s machine was most likely waiting.
So he’d cut her after giving her to some other humans and darted into the new Zone, what he saw once he got there was something straight out of hell and damnation itself, if you were to believe in such things. Molten rock dripped down from a sky of eternal flames into a sea of pure super hot magma that shone with the light of a sun, and to top it off he was standing on the only spit of land that seemed to be in the place.
Millions of rails criss-crossed the area looping around in countless circles and spirals filled with golden rings and other item boxes that most likely would help him on his journey to reach the other side. Eggman’s machine wasn’t the enemy here aside from the fact he could be completely consumed by the flowing magma beneath him, no it wouldn’t be the same without some kind of enemy to hamper him, only instead of Eggman’s robots or G.U.N. machines creatures seemed to swim in the lava itself. And then she appeared behind him, somehow, a tall overlander at first she instantly metamorphosised into a four foot tall red furred feline with a pair of high pumps and a dress that would make Rouge jealous, the ever flirtatious bat. Completing the ensemble were a pair of ruby red gloves, her fur was a much darker red then Knuckles’ with a lighter shade of orange on her belly and other parts not worth noticing for fear of Amy clonking him with her Pico-Pico Hammer. Not that he liked Amy like that, he tried not to fall into that trap of love like the Overlanders did, they tended to cause nothing but grief in Sonic’s opinion.

“What?” She exclaimed glancing down at her new form. “NO!” She screamed then she spotted Sonic. “YOU! Your stupid interference destroyed my old body now look at me, I’m a reject from a Furry.” She hissed extending flaming red claws of fire and trying to cut him, thankfully his Super Sonic aura kept her from touching him.

“Heh. Don’t know who you might be, but I think Shadow might take a shine to ya. Although personally I prefer dating within my own species.” He quipped before eyeing the distance to the nearest rail. “Guess this is a race and I’ve got to reach the end before you do in order to get out. So, how fast do ya think you are because I doubt you’re as fast as me.” He mocked before leaping up from the patch of ground that melted away as soon as he leapt from it and landed on the first rail, grinding it he began to gather the rings to keep his Super form and spun-dashed through the attacking creatures that looked like Vector pumped up on steroids or something.

“I will kill you!” The cat screamed surprising Sonic by not only surviving touching the lava, but managing to keep up with him too. “You will bow before the mighty Glorificus, I don’t care if I got reincarnated or displaced or whatever into a cat body I’m getting back to my dimension you, you furred pest.” She stated confidently as she began to overtake him since she could actually run through the lava and didn’t have to rely on the rails for support.

“Great, wouldn’t be a challenge without uber delusional cat gods.” Sonic muttered ducking down to a lower rail and spiraling into several item boxes with numerous rings. Lucky too because the upper rail ended abruptly in a waterfall of lava. “Lavafall, neat I coined a new word.” He stated supremely overconfident. That is of course when the usual rock and roll music started to accompany his journey and it was his favorite tune too, the one Amy convinced those Overlanders to write about him.

Well, I don't show off, don't criticize. I'm just livin' by my own feelings.
And I won't give in, won't compromise. I just only have a steadfast heart of gold.

“Get back here Hedgehog!” The cat screamed as Sonic performed a triple loop on a particularly long stretch of rail and leapt to the next one scoring over a thousand points according to his wrist mounted point tally device which Tails had built for him so he could keep track of the high scores he got while performing tricks in these odd Zones. He liked making high scores and trying to beat them it was fun.

I don't know why, I can't leave though it might be tough. But I ain't out of control, just livin' by my word. Don't ask me why, I don't need a reason. I got my way, my own way.

“Yeah right, snooze and you lose sister.” He called back glancing over his shoulder, in doing so he missed a necessary jump between two short rails and collided chest first with a horizontal rail below this one knocking the wind out of him. “Whuff. Damn I didn’t see that coming.” He grumbled swinging up and studying the new rail to make sure it went in the direction he needed to go.

It doesn't matter now what happens I will never give up the fight; there is no way I will run away from all of my frights. Long as the voice inside me says go, I will always keep on running; there is no way to stop me from going to the very top.
It doesn't matter who is wrong or who is right

Sonic heard the funky chime sound that indicated he’d just scored another free chance at tackling this place, according to Tails Zones were constructed based on rules that went far outside the normal order of things. While inside of them as long as Sonic scored a hundred rings or ran into an item box with his picture on it he would get what his two-tailed buddy dubbed an ‘Extra Life’. Meaning he was practically immortal in here as long as he didn’t run out of lives by doing something monumentally stupid like nearly plunging head first into the river of lava or falling from tremendous heights like back during the ARK incident when he’d gone into outer space. The little score counter also listed off how many lives he had, it was kind of weird, but who was he to complain. Zones weren’t classified as such for no reason.

“Nine tries, guess I scored nine hundred rings since I started.” He muttered to himself dashing up a consecutive chain of creatures to reach the upper most rail which was a little too close to the raining lava, but it was the only path he could take at this junction if he wanted to shave a few seconds off his time.

Well, I won't look back I don't need to. Time won't wait and I got so much to do.
Where do I stop, it's all a blur and so unclear. Well, I don't know but I can't be wrong.

This fight is not for anybody, this is purely for myself; there is no way I'm gonna give up 'til the very end. I can't tell what is wrong and what is right, I've got to find the answer. But until I do there's no way I will ever give up.
Place all your bets on the one you think is right.

“Guitar solo!” Sonic crooned wondering if the cat Glorificus or whatever was still tailing him. Grandstanding slightly he performed a left-handed hand-stand and spun around the rail he was on in a flash, just ahead was the large golden ring with the word GOAL in the center. He was almost at the end.

“Not so fast you pest.” The cat suddenly popped up out of a spout of lava and grabbed for him, this time she collided and Sonic lost his footing. Fortunately as Super Sonic he could defy gravity and another rail was close at hand for him to land on to catch his breath, flying used up rings faster meaning he’d revert to plain old regular Sonic before he got out of here and then he’d be feeling the heat, literally. It had to be over thirty thousand degrees in this place. “Hey, I’m not such a bad girl. Can’t we compromise?” She wondered flicking her tail in an attempt at seducing him, Sonic never was one to fall for those kinds of tricks unlike a certain Echidna he could mention.

“Not buying it lady.” He stated arms crossed.

“You annoying hedgehog.” She cursed. “I’m going to get out of here first and you can just rot in this place. I’ll get my key yet and find a way back home.” She stated. “And this time no stupid Watcher is going to kill my human host before I do, ‘cause hey fully back in my own body now.” She added indicating her feline form and then blinking slightly as she fully took it in. “Ok, well maybe not my original form, but I’m fully charged and this time no little Slayer is going to bean me with a stinkin’ hammer. I’m just too cute for that.” She smirked as Sonic eyed the Goal tantalizing feet away.

“So you’re a Goddess then.” He said in a bored tone of voice having guessed that much from the fact that she liked to rant.

“Hell goddess damnit, why can’t I get any respect from you do-gooders? It’s not like I’m trying to ruin your lives I just want to get home.” She pouted stomping her foot into the rail and bending it slightly.

“Listen I’m kinda pressed for time.” Sonic began glancing at his wrist as though he actually was wearing a watch. “I’ve got this big fat guy and his doomsday machine to deal with; I was kind of trying to stop him before your key opened that portal which sucked me into that place.” He added taking a stance. “So, if you’ll excuse me I’ve gotta fly.” He finished with a wink.

“No you don’t!” Glory screamed leaping at him her claws burning ready to skewer him.

“Yes I do.” He stated performing a spin dash mid-air until he was fully charged. He circled once, twice, thirty times at super sonic speed making the feline transmogrified hell goddess dizzy before he literally dashed through the air bypassing the last of the rails.

“I will not be left behind like this.” She declared managing to recover fast, leaping after the hedgehog she actually caught his sneaker while he was spinning around and around so fast it was impossible to determine where his head was or where his feet were. And just as she got hold of him Sonic flew through the Goal ring, the Zone collapsed leaving behind nothing to indicate it had ever been there and Glory found herself lying on a grass covered knoll somewhere with a splitting headache from her spinning trip. The Hedgehog was nowhere to be found. “Ok, where am I?” She asked herself trying to get her bearings.

“Froggy, Froggy where are you now Froggy?” A deep voice called, Glory blinked as a massive dark purple and white cat showed up wearing a pair of brown sandals with a matching belt and carrying a fishing rod over one shoulder. He was also wearing five fingered gloves on each hand. “Oh. Hi, have you seen my friend Froggy?” He asked.

“No!” Glory snapped. “What do I look like to you a frog-wrangler?” She demanded.

“Uh, no. But you do look kind ah pretty. Maybe you’d like to join me and Froggy for our fishing trip.” The cat asked.

“Are you asking me out?” Glory wondered incredulously.

“I think so; I’ve never met anyone before I wanted to ask out.” The cat returned.

“Oh well. Fine I guess we can go out I mean at least somebody appreciates the new me.” She said with a smile that turned into her purr, she stretched out slightly arching her back and moved to join the big cat. “So what’s your name anyway?” She asked deciding she’d start small in gathering some minions before she went looking for that annoying Hedgehog.

“Big the Cat.” He replied. “What’s yours?”

“Call me Lori.” She said deciding it would be easier to hide in this place if she didn’t go around advertising her other self. Big smiled broadly and took her arm in his leading her off down the path towards what might have been a river.
