A/N: Well, AkatsukiDaybreak has been bugging me to add something to this, so here we go.
In another timeline, had the Halloween Event never occurred, Anya Jenkins, formerly known as Anyanka the Patron Saint of Scorned Women, would’ve said of Willow Rosenberg “Responsible people are always so concerned about being good all the time that when they finally get a taste of being bad, they can't get enough.”
Since the Halloween Event, people who became characters who are the paragons of virtue have found themselves fallen from grace and loving embracing their inner evil.
Case in point, the Black Roses, a small group of heroines turned villainesses who travel the Midwest and South of the United States. They usually operate by robbing from weak people, but have been known to take jobs as mercenaries if the reward is good and not something they can take by force.
Tokoyami Yagami, formerly known as Hikari Yagami, was once one of the eight original DigiDestined and the six DigiDestined who came after them. Before waking up in the endless Halloween, she was just taking part in the battle where they talked Belial Vandemon to death. After waking up, she and her partner Tailmon became defenders.
However, ‘normals’ distrusted and begrudged her for her partner, even though she protected them. Slowly, she began to become disgusted with them and their weakness. Her heart fell into temptation to abuse her power to dominate others and for other selfish reasons. Her crest warped from being ‘Light’ to ‘Darkness’ and her partner changed to reflect it, becoming BlackTailmon and eventually digivolving into her Perfect form, Lilithmon, the Demon Lord of Lust. She changed her name from Hikari, Japanese for light, to Tokoyami, Japanese for everlasting darkness and adopted more of a stereotypical ‘Goth girl’ look.
Penny Horrible used to be an ordinary woman working to improve conditions for the homeless. However, she unwittingly became entangled in the feud between her secret admirer Dr. Horrible (whom she knew as Billy, her laundry buddy) and her recent boyfriend Captain Hammer. She was killed in the final battle between the two of them when Captain Hammer turned Dr. Horrible’s damaged Death Ray back on him. The device exploded and the debris killed her. Captain Hammer ran away screaming in pain and she died in Dr. Horrible’s arms.
When she found herself on the Hallow Earth, she developed the power to force anyone or any monster to sing and dance, much like the demon Sweet. At first she maintained her delusions about Captain Hammer, but she finally accepted that he was responsible for her death. Hate and resentment festered inside until she was consumed by evil like Dr. Horrible was after her death. She changed her surname to Horrible and vowed to find Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer. Her intentions being to marry the former and force the latter to dance to his death while singing the songs he wants played at his funeral.
Orihime Inoue was once a pacifist who possessed the power to reject fate or undo events using her Shun Shun Rikka (Six Flowers of the Shielded Hibiscus), six fairies living in her hairclips. This ability can be used for attacking, shielding, or healing. Her attack ability, known as Koten Zanshun (Solitary Heavenly Cutting Shield) that used the fairy Tsubaki was weak because she lacked the killing intent necessary to power it properly, but her shield ability using the fairies Hinagiku, Lily, and Baigon, Santen Kesshun (Triple Heavenly Linking Shield), and healing ability using the fairies Ayame and Shun’o, Soten Kisshun (Twin Heavenly Returning Shield) were both very strong due to her desire to help others.
Months of defending herself from Halloween horrors made her realize that no one was coming to save her and she would have to kill or be killed. The emotional trauma of watching people die and having to kill creatures that sometimes looked very human and sometimes didn’t deeply affected her psychologically. She began developing a love of battle as a defense mechanism that eventually became full blown bloodlust. Because of this Tsubaki became immensely powerful while the other fairies waned in power, the healing ones much more so than the shielding ones. While she didn’t change her name, Orihime began dressing more like the arrancar that had held her captive in Hueco Mundo.
Around the same time the Buses were returning to Sunnydale, the Black Roses were escorting a group of refugees out of Maine away from the King horrors to the safety of the other states of the Eastern Nine Alliance. Their goal was to obtain the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls) from a miko among the refugees as a reward. They would just take it, but the miko has placed some kind of binding on it so that no one can use it but her and it will disappear from the world if she dies. The miko would just escort the refugees herself, but she can’t move and project barriers at the same time and her attacks, even enhanced by the Shikon no Tama, leave a lot to be desired.
The intention of the Black Roses is to get a jewel, a sword, and a mirror to create a facsimile of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. Orihime intends to use the Shikon no Tama to enhance her own powers. Tokoyami wants a sword so that she no longer has to completely depend on Lilithmon to her fighting for her, though she doesn’t care if the sword is an actual version of Kusanagi no Tsurugi or some other legendary sword like Excalibur, Cthrek Goru, So’unga, the Master Sword, or the Sword of Aeons. Penny’s after a version of the Yata no Kagami that she can use as a shield to protect her from flying projectiles.
“At least in Hueco Mundo I could see the moon,” Orihime grumbled as they trudged through the dense backwoods in a single file line, “This whole continuously red thing is really boring.”
“Makes it easier to kill vampires, though,” commented Tokoyami from a few people down, “They get overconfident in the darkness.”
“Speak of the devil,” said Lilithmon, “There’s a vampire headed this way and he has two human friends. He’s a variety we haven’t come across yet, so I can’t be sure what his strengths and weaknesses are.”
“Go tell Penny to get her ass up here and tell Ms. Miko to put up a barrier. We’re going hunting.”
Lilithmon nodded in response and was gone in a flash.
“So what do you have against vampires?” Orihime asked, “you’re always so anxious to kill them.”
The former DigiDestined seemed thoughtful for a moment.
“Vamdemon,” she replied, “My hate for him will never end no matter what happens. I’ll slaughter anything that reminds me of him.”
This struck Orihime as hilarious for some reason and she began giggling. Tokoyami joined in with an evil laugh.
“What’s with all the villainous laughter?” Penny asked as she and Lilithmon approached.
“Nothing,” Orihime said, suddenly sobering, “Let’s go.”
The other three nodded and they were off. It only took them a half an hour of walking to finally catch up with their targets. The first thing they noticed was that all three of them were male. The second thing they noticed was that all three of them were handsome, but in a way that carried quite a bit of arrogance.
In the middle was definitely the vampire. He looked to be about seventeen, but his real age was anyone’s guess. His skin was very pale and he had bronze hair and golden eyes. Despite his fairly modest clothing, he was quite obviously perfectly sculpted like a statue of a Greek god.
To his right was a bishounen fifteen year old with bluish-black hair and onyx eyes. He wore a white shirt that exposed his chest and abdomen with a weird blue thing around his waist and black paints, all topped off by two purple ropes around his waist. His aloof demeanor suggested he consciously tried to distance himself from the world
To the left was a blond of sixteen or seventeen who seemed to be terrified, an indication that he was likely the weakest of the group. He wore black robes with some kind of snake insignia on them, indicating he was likely a wizard.
The vampire stepped forward with his hands up in a nonthreatening gesture.
“We mean you no harm,” he said, “My name is Edward Cullen. My blond companion is Draco Malfoy and the other is Sasuke Uchiha. We detected a group moving south and would like to join you.”
“That’s unfortunate,” Tokoyami replied, frowning, “We were kind of hoping for a fight. I suppose it’s not too late though. Lilithmon.”
Lilithmon thrust her glowed hand forward, penetrating the vampire’s heart before he could react. His body fell to the ground, convulsing. His body began to foam and bubble as the corrosive acid flowed through him.
“Who’s next?” Tokoyami asked, smirking.
Sasuke blurred and appeared in front of Tokoyami, ready to strike with his sword. He was blocked by Orihime’s barrier and turned just in time to see Tsubaki flying straight at his head. He attempted to jump out of the way, only to be caught in Penny’s spell. He dropped his blade and began bouncing up and down, then started singing.
My life is spiraling downward.
I couldn't get enough money to go to the
Blood Red Romance and Suffocate me dry concert.
It sucks 'cause they play some of my favorite songs.”
“You got him under control?” Orihime asked as Sasuke continued powerlessly bouncing and singing.
“Yup,” Penny replied, “I think this’ll be good practice for Captain Hammer.”
The three shared in another evil laugh and turned their attention to Draco. He had been fumbling through his robes for his wand and seemed to have finally found it. However, he seemed unsure of what to do.
“St-stay back!” he stammered.
“Yeah, that’s going to work,” Orihime said sarcastically, “Can you even do anything with that stick?”
“Stu-“ he began.
Tsubaki flew from Orihime’s hairclip and cut his wand in half before he could finish the spell. His eyes widened and he fell back. Orihime leaned in close until her face was mere inches from his.
“Run,” she ordered.
He didn’t need much more incentive than that. He was up and out of sight in a matter of seconds.
“You let him live?” Tokoyami asked.
“There are things out there that can do much worse than I can to him,” Orihime replied, “what about him?”
“I'm an emo kid, non-conforming as can be
You'd be non-conforming too if
You looked just like me”
“I figure I’ll just leave him,” Penny replied, “If he manages to not dance to his death until my power wears off, he’ll be too exhausted to fight anything off. He’s helpless like this, though, so he’ll probably be killed before then. Like you said, there are things out here that can do a lot worse than I can.”
“All right then,” Tokoyami said, “Let’s head back ladies. All this violence has made me hungry.”
So the Black Roses left behind this scene of random violence to continue their quest to gain power.
A/N: I didn’t come up with the emo song, but kudos to whoever did.
