Prologue:
Staring at the locker in front of him Cameron Mitchell just tried to process the words that wouldn’t stop running through his head. The memories of the fight over Antarctica, the promises that the two of them had made so many years ago, the tragic words of inoperable location, aneurysm, and more. It was all his fault and no matter what, there was no one and nothing that could absolve him of the responsibility for having fucked up. He’d been hot dogging it like usual. Now here he was with a position of leadership and responsibility that he’d gotten only because his stupidity had hurt his best friend so badly. Bryce had been the one who had been up for the spot of commanding SG1 and not him. Sure he’d been on the list of possible commanders, but he’d been further down the list simply because of his on occasion reckless nature.

Staring at the Shaman in front of him, Xander slowly asked him if he meant what Xander thought he meant. That he could restore Xander’s lost eye and heal the wound that had bothered him for so long. True he’d gotten used to it, but to have both of his eyes back again? He just wanted to be sure of what he was getting into here. What the cost would be to him, there were some prices that he wasn’t willing to pay. He’d gotten used to it, so if it was going to cost someone he cared about or cost the world something, then no way in hell was he going to go for it.
Listening carefully to the old Shaman’s reply, Xander asked another question. He wanted to be absolutely sure of the cost and any catches.
Slowly Xander nodded his head in agreement.
