Chapter 13

I don't the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.

The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.

This is a piece of fanfiction. I make no claim to the characters within it and am not writing this to gain any form of profit. This is mostly done for my own amusement and I hope for the enjoyment for the handfuls of people reading it.

Chapter 13

“Good Lord Xander! What the devil happened?” Giles asked.

“My mutation had been sealed off by magic when I was a baby. My being possessed and depossessed by that hyena weakened the seal letting my healing and senses activate. This latest bout with chaos magic released the rest of it. For all I know this is how I'm supposed to look.” Xander said as he tried to brush down some of his fur, and failing.

“It's most unusual that your appearance is so similar to your costume.” Giles told him. “And it would take some impressive chaos magic to seal off a mutation of that level.” Giles added before trailing off. “Ethan... He always did enjoy a challenge for the right price. If he was the one to cast the spell, then he could have used...” Giles rubbed his arm. “Bloody small world.” he muttered.

“Giles, the woman who had me put up for adoption was a seer known as Destiny. Do you know anything about her?” Xander asked him.

“Destiny? You're certain? She's a well known Seer in certain circles, completely untraceable by magic for some reason. Everything she does, she does for a reason... She could have hired Ethan because of the fact he would be here in town to do this spell... I can't be certain Xander but your life may have been completely foreseen by her.” Giles said.

“That's great but are we going to have to worry about any side effects from all this?” Cordelia asked. “I mean it was really weird when I felt the call from the sword.”

“I don't know. That was something I've never seen before. This Sword of Omens you told me about didn't actually manifest, so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.” Giles said. “If you all would come back tomorrow and we can do some further tests. Right now I think we can all use a good night's sleep.”

“I can't go back home like this.” Xander said. “My folks are going to notice their son is blue and furry. Retractable claws were one thing, this is a whole other hill of beans.”

“You can crash at my house. I think my mom won't mind.” Buffy told him.

“Good.” Xander said before pulling up a chair to the table and sitting down.

The chair creaked a bit before collapsing.

“Crap.” Xander said as he stood up.

“Oh dear.” Giles muttered.

“You must have gained some more weight.” Willow guessed.

“How much did he weigh before?” Oz asked.

“I was three hundred and fifty pounds last week.” Xander said.

Oz raised an eyebrow. “Your clothes are pretty slimming.”

“Ha ha.” Xander muttered. “I don't know where the weight goes. But this is going to be a problem. If I keep breaking chairs... people are going to notice.”

“We'll figure something out.” Giles assured him.

“I honestly wish you believed that Giles.” Xander sighed.
“Buffy, you're home a little late.” Joyce said as her daughter came in through the front door.

“Sorry mom, we had a little issue tonight.” Buffy said as she turned around, “Xander, where'd you go?”

She turned to face her mom, “He was right behind me a second ago.”

“Still am Buffy.” Xander's voice said as he closed the door.

Buffy and Joyce stared at the door that seemingly closed by itself. Buffy walked towards the door and bumped into something solid.

Xander flickered back into view.

“What on earth?” Joyce gasped.

“My mutation... got accelerated a little tonight.” Xander told her. “Can I crash here ? Giles might be able to figure out a way to hide...this tomorrow.” Xander said as he gestured at his current appearance.

“How did you do that? It was like you vanished.” Buffy asked him.

“I just... didn't want to be seen.” Xander muttered before fading from view again. “Tygra could do the invisibility trick too... I'm seriously starting to think our choices weren't really our own for tonight.”

“What exactly happened?” Joyce asked.

“We got turned into fictional characters, Xander got possessed by a weird demon that knows Giles, the demon got destroyed and Xander's all fuzzy now. All in all, a normal night.” Buffy said before blinking. “Maybe not so normal... I've been doing this too long.” She said with a sigh.

“It was weird. Any chance I can have some food? I'm starving.” Xander asked before his stomach made a loud noise.

“I think I can scrounge something up.” Joyce said with a soft smile.

The next morning Xander woke up feeling well rested, but very thirsty. He stumbled slightly out of the living room and the claws that used to be his toenails got caught on the rug by the front door. He fell to the floor and tried to spread out as much as possible before landing. A loud thud still shook the house, making sure the other occupants were going to be downstairs in the next few moments.

“That is going to take some getting used to.” He muttered before standing. He glared at his furry feet and their slight claws. “I think I need to get someone to go get some pet grooming supplies, that or some pruning sheers.” He said as he made his way towards the Summers kitchen.

“What was that noise?” Joyce asked as she came in.

“I sort of fell. I gained a bit of weight last night.” Xander told her.

“Oh.” Joyce said as she got a good look at Xander in the morning light. His midnight blue fur lined with red stripes had a multitude of highlights in it. It was... distracting.

“Mrs. Summers, are you okay?” Xander asked her.

Joyce shook her head. “Sorry, you're fur is...different.” She told him.

“I guess.” Xander said with a shrug as he walked over to the fridge. He pulled his hand back after he received a small zap of static electricity. “Dammit.” he muttered.

Joyce stifled a laugh.

“Yeah laugh it up.” Xander muttered. “I'm going to need to find a good shampoo that I can buy in bulk and get some pet grooming supplies. I honestly didn't expect to be this way.” Xander told her.

“Let's see about getting some breakfast. Maybe you'll better after you get some food in you.” Joyce told him.

“Have you got any bacon?” Xander asked her with a hopeful look in his eyes.

“I might.” Joyce said with a grin.

Buffy and Xander looked up from their homework. “That's Oz.” Buffy said as she looked at her mother.

“Go.” Joyce told them.

Xander vanished from sight as Buffy bolted to the front door.

“Kids today.” Joyce said with a shake of her head.

“Hey, where's Xander?” Oz asked before his van sank a couple of inches.

Buffy shut the sliding door and Xander reappeared.

“Oh.” Oz said before putting the van back in drive.

“You know Oz....” Xander started to say

Oz raised an eyebrow as he looked at him in the rear view mirror.

“Never mind.” Xander said with a rueful grin. “Say can we stop at a drive thru on the way to the library?”

“Sure. I could go for a shake.” Oz said.

Willow glared at the teens as they came into the library.

Xander dropped a bag in front of her along with an extra large coffee. “Didn't forget you Wills.” Xander said with a grin.

Willow looked in the bag and suppressed a squeal.

“Kids meal. Gets her every time.” Xander said to Oz who nodded sagely.

Giles came out of his office. “Did you get me anything?” he asked.

“Double burger, light on the mustard and no onions.” Xander said as he handed him a sack.

“You remembered.” Giles said with a smile.

“We ate enough belly busters this summer.” Xander grinned back.

“That we did.” Giles sighed. “Anyone feeling different than normal?” He asked the assembled teens. “Aside from Xander of course.” He added as an afterthought.

“I can turn invisible.” Xander said with a grin.

“Really?” Giles asked.

“Yup.” Xander said before fading from sight.

“Amazing.” Giles said before unwrapping his burger. “any other new business before lunch?” he asked everyone.

“Nope.” Buffy said while the others shook their heads.

“Then we feast” Xander said as he dug into his two bags of burgers.

Everyone managed to look somewhere else as he began to eat. Mustard stains on blue fur just looked weird.

“Let's see... we could try a glamor charm of some sort.” Giles suggested. “It would be a temporary one. It takes a considerable amount of power to maintain an illusion constantly.”

“We could try...” Willow agreed.

“I just want to look normal.” Xander muttered.

Cordelia looked up from the magazine she'd been looking at.

“Do that again.” she told him.

“Do what?” Xander asked her, confused.

“The fur on your face... moved for a second.” She said as she peered intently at him.

“No...” Xander said as he tried to remember exactly how he looked before last night's events.

Everyone turned to stare at Xander as his fur receded slightly and became a lighter shade of blue for a moment.

“Well?” Xander asked.

“I think you need to practice that some more.” Oz told him.

“Well crap.” Xander muttered before banging his head into the table.

“I don't think that's going to help.” Oz added, helpfully.

Cordelia snorted.

“Giles, you said it was urgent.” Jenny Calendar said as she came into the library. “What the hell?” she said as she got a quick look at Xander Harris.

“Hi Ms. C” Xander said with a wave of his hand.

“What? How? Fur?” the computer teacher sputtered.

“It's kind of a new development.” Xander said from where he was standing. “Say you wouldn't know where I can find a really heavy duty scale would you?”

“You could always try the local vet who specializes in livestock.” She said before turning to Giles, “A little warning would have been nice.” she said to him.

Giles shrugged sheepishly. “Sorry. We're currently trying to come up with a few glamors that will help Xander retain a human appearance until he manages to keep one on his own.”

“Huh?” Jenny said intelligently.

“Watch.” Xander said before he closed his eyes and breathed. His fur turned flesh colored for about three seconds before it shifted back to normal.

“That's better than before.” Willow said encouragingly.

“Yeah.” Oz enthused. Well for him anyways.

“Let's go to the local magic shop. I'll need to pick up a few things first. We'll need some recent photos of Xander as well.” Jenny said after a few minutes of thinking.

“Awesome!” Willow said, bouncing with enthusiasm.

Oz raised an eyebrow.

“Before I forget, were there really any adverse affects from last night?” Giles asked everyone for the second time.

“I'm taller.” Buffy said after a moments silence.

“By like a quarter inch.” Xander said. “Everyone smells a little different, but not much. My scent has changed a whole hell of a lot though.”

Giles nodded, trying to process that. “Well, alert me to any other changes would you? You were all influenced by a some artifact that I know next to nothing about while under that transformation spell.”

“We will Giles. The most I have is an urge to make smoke pellets and ride a hoverboard.” Willow said.

Oz nodded.

“Cordelia?” Xander asked.

“I made some herbal tea this morning.” She admitted.

For those who'd grown up with the girl, that was saying a lot.

“Magic shop?” Jenny reminded them.

“Yes, lets.” Giles said.

Several hours later they had a series of small amulets made for Xander's use.

“It'll take three of these to get you through a school day Xander. You'll have to use the other two sparingly. They could be used in conjunction while you're at home but if you sleep too long, you'll wake up looking like you do now.” Jenny told him.

Xander nodded. “I was getting like three hours of sleep a night before I changed. I don't know how much I'll be needing now.”

“Really? Must be nice.” Oz muttered.

“Wouldn't that get real boring?” Cordelia asked. “Everyone else is asleep then right?”

Xander nodded. “I do a lot of reading and some other things during that time. It can get a little monotonous during the wee hours. Having a Walkman helps.”

“Well, you should work on trying to pass for normal when you can.” Jenny told him. “Who knows, with enough practice you might be able to hold it indefinitely.” she said encouragingly.

“Yeah. I'll certainly give it my best.” Xander told her with a nod.

“Well, tomorrow is Sunday.” Giles said. “If you don't mind I would like one day off this week.”

“Later Giles.” Xander said as he put one of the amulets on, his appearance suddenly that of his normal self.

“Just be careful Xander, that's only an illusion. People can still feel your fur if they touch you.” Jenny reminded him.

“Long sleeves. Gotcha.” Xander said with a nod. “Who's up for Chinese?” he asked the others.

“I could eat.” Oz said while the others nodded.

The teens left, leaving Giles and Ms. Calendar alone. “So, buy a girl dinner?” Jenny asked Giles

“Sure.” Giles said with a grin.
