Chapter 18

I don't the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.

The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.

This is a piece of fan fiction. I make no claim to the characters within it and am not writing this to gain any form of profit. This is mostly done for my own amusement and I hope for the enjoyment for the handfuls of people reading it.

Chapter 18

“Why are we doing this?” Willow asked Buffy.

“To prevent some bad things happening to our swim team.” Buffy said as Oz popped the lock on the school's nurses office.

“We're in.” Oz said.

“Good.” Buffy said. “Let's get what we need and then head to the Coach's office. He has the other part of the serum.”

“What is this going to do?” Willow asked.

“Have you ever seen any old horror movies?” Buffy asked her.

“Oz has been showing me the classics.” Willow said.

“Black Lagoon.” Buffy told her.

“Oh. Eww....” Willow said as she crinkled her nose.

“Exactly. The coach has been giving them a... cocktail of sorts.” Buffy said. “I don't like cheaters.”

Xander made his way home only to find a passport sitting on his bed.

“Mom? What's this?” Xander asked.

“That came for you in the mail. Why didn't you tell me you'd applied?” his mother asked him.

“It never came up.” Xander said honestly. “Sorry mom.” Xander told her.

“All right. Just don't go jaunting about the world without telling us okay?” his mother joked.

“I won't mom.” Xander assured her.

“Good. Now get to bed. It's late.” his mother told him.

Xander sat up in bed as his mother called for him. “You've a phone call! I thought I told you not have friends call this late!” she said through the door.

“Sorry mom, it must be an emergency.” Xander said before heading to the phone.

“Hello? Giles what is it? Yes I do have one. Buffy doesn't? Right. What's with the question? You want me to go where? Really? Yeah, let me pack a bag.” Xander said before he hung up the phone.

“What's going on?” His mother asked.

“I have to leave the country.” Xander told her.

“What? Why?” His mother demanded.

“It's important. I'll tell you when I get back.” Xander told her.

“You can't leave.” his mother said.

“I'm sorry. I have to go.” Xander said before heading to his room.

“You leave, you can't come back!” His mother shouted.

“If that's how you feel.” Xander said as he packed his bag.

“How is it I'm the only one with a passport?” Xander asked the group at the airport.

“My paperwork is still going through.” Buffy said with a shrug. “Be careful. This will be unlike anything you've seen so far.”

Xander pinched the bridge of his nose. “Right. I'll be back when I can. Is there anything you can tell me Giles?”

“Kendra has gone ahead. She's got a head start on you. You'll be there in about seven hours.” Giles told him. “Good luck.”

“Thanks.” Xander said sarcastically. “I'll be back.” He said to Cordelia.

“I know. Be good.” She told him.

“Of course.” Xander said with a smile. He just wished he didn't feel so nervous.

“I hate flying.” Xander muttered as he tried to ignore the hum of the airplane's engines. The cabin was crowded and the air was more than stale to him.

Ding ding..

“Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be landing shortly. Welcome to Jamaica.” the Captain said over the intercom.

Xander sighed. “Thank god.”

“Robin it's good to see you.” Xander said as he got out of the arrivals area.

“They sent you? Sam asked for Buffy.” Robin said with a hint of disbelief.

“Trust me, I'm just as good.” Xander assured him.

“I find that hard to believe.” Robin said.

“Doesn't matter, let's get somewhere secure and I can show both you and Zabuto if you don't believe me.” Xander told him.

“Let's go. Kendra hasn't reported back at all.” Robin said as they headed towards the baggage claim.

“What the devil are you?” Sam Zabuto asked Xander as he eyed the large tiger man in front of him.

“I'm a mutant and I can beat Buffy in an unfair fight.” Xander told him as he adjusted his Halloween costume.

“What do you mean unfair?” Sam asked.

“Even if she had all the weapons in the world. I'd win because I heal way faster than she does.” Xander told him.

“We'll take you to the cave.” Sam said.

“Thanks.” Xander said.

Xander eyed the cave. “Listen, I've got a bad feeling about this. All of this. You two need to keep your distance okay?” Xander told the two men.

“But Kendra...” Sam said.

“Listen, if she's still in there she's either incapacitated or dead right? Stay back.” Xander told them before fading from sight.

“This is all on me now.” He said. “I'll do my best to get her out okay?” before heading into the cave.

Xander tread lightly into the cave. He looked at the writing on the walls but he couldn't decipher it. He caught wind of Kendra's scent and he began following it. This place... it wasn't a cave.

He made his way through the entrance and towards Kendra's location. He followed her scent down crisscrossing hallways and the deeper he went, the more certain he was this was not a cave at all.

“It's a ship.” He whispered to himself. “It's a freaking space ship.” He said under his breath as his mind flashed back to memories that weren't exactly his.

He found Kendra in a large rounded hallway that appeared to be near the center of the ship. He found her broken and lying in a puddle of congealed blood. She was dead.

He went further into the room and saw that there were a few skeletons strewed about the room. Whoever was here didn't like intruders, but they weren't exactly concerned about clean up.

He went along the inner round wall and paused as he began to see a source of light as he walked. He went closer to the light and began to hear voices as well. Voices in many languages, bits he recognized, a lot he didn't.

He lightened his mass and continued his trek towards the light and sound. He needed to know what this place was, and what could do that to a Slayer. He found that the round hallway lead to a large room where three massive demons that appeared to be made out of rock were looking at a viewing globe that had a multitude of images flashing past it. Xander recognized a news anchor he knew of in one flash while another was a flash of the Easter Islands.

Xander's eyes widened as he realized these three demons were monitoring the world. The whole world. He was so startled by this realization that he'd unintentionally partially stepped into the room to get a better look.

An alarm sounded, blue lights started flashing and the viewing sphere went dark.

One of the demons said something and it sounded like two massive slabs of granite being drug against each other. The three demons stood and turned towards the entrance of the room. They didn't see anything. The demons shared a look and began to move out into the round hallway.

Xander leapt up and lowered his mass so he could touch the ceiling.

These things were massive, and their long straight horns made them look to nearly be the devil himself.

Xander had never seen anything like them.

One of the demons pointed up and Xander knew his cover had been blown. He grabbed his whip and flung some fireballs at the demons.

The demons stood there and took the flame. The only difference in their appearance is a faint glow in parts of their bodies. It was like they were almost made of volcanic rock.

One of the demons jumped up and Xander skittered across the ceiling to get out of the demons path. Xander launched some more fireballs at the demons but all it did was make the red lines in their bodies grow brighter.

Xander dropped to the ground and let himself increase to his full mass and he regained his visibility. The demons saw him and one of them charged him.

Xander barley missed the swing as it passed by his head and he grabbed the arm only to burn his hands as he threw the demon. This felt a jolt in his muscles. This thing was even heavier than he was!

Xander repressed a groan as the Demon stood and swung at him again, trying to hit his center mass. Xander dodged and tried to punch the demon. He felt the bones in his hand break from the impact.

“Son of a bitch.” He swore as the bones knitted themselves back together. These guys weren't budging and his whip couldn't hurt them. He didn't want to risk damaging the weapon trying to tie the demons up. He had two demons behind him and the one in front of him.

He wasn't getting out of here.

“Damn it.” Xander swore as he ducked another swing and he did something risky.

He grabbed one of the demon's horns and pulled with all his might.

After an extreme effort the horn snapped off and he now had an improvised stake.

The one demon he'd been fighting screamed in what could have been pain as he clutched the broken horn. He gestured to the other demons and Xander knew he was screwed.

He hefted the horn in his hand and jammed it into the demon's skull through it's forehead. He removed the horn and ran from the two demons that started chasing him. He ran around the room and doubled back to the control room. The entry way was large enough for just one of the demons to fit at a time.

Perfect. Xander went invisible and waited.

One of the demons made it's way into the room with the other right behind it. Xander shoved the makeshift stake into the demon's forehead and pulled it out. The demon fell to it's knees and Xander repeated the same action with the other demon as fast as he could.

The demons collapsed and fell on him, pinning his legs underneath them.

Xander tried to move but he was pinned underneath the weight of the two rock like demons.

Xander stopped struggling and took some deep breaths. Panicking wouldn't help this situation.

The blue lights started flashing and the room began to hum noisily.

“Okay, now might be a good time to panic” He said as a voice started to be heard in the ship. It sounded like it was counting down in some language he couldn't understand.

“No! No! I won't die like this!” He screamed. “Not like this!” HE screamed before the room began to vibrate. “No!” he screamed before the room began to glow a bright white.

Suddenly Xander found himself outside with open sky all around him, and the ground far below. He looked down and saw a large section of ground collapse in on itself, like what was under it wasn't there anymore.

“It self destructed...” He said in awe. “Oh my god, I'm alive!” He screamed to the open air. “How?”

He stared down at the ground. “I... I didn't see any kind of a transporter.. but how?” He asked. He continued staring down and he slightly increased his mass so he slowly began to sink to the ground as he faded from sight.

He drifted down as the breeze blew him away from the epicenter of the collapsed earth. He drifted down and managed to land close to where Robin and Zabuto's car was parked. He followed their scents and found them near the edge of the newly formed crater.

Zabuto was staring at the crater screaming for Kendra.

Xander became visible again. “She's gone Mr. Zabuto. She was dead when I found her.”

“What?” Robin said. “How did you get out? What was that?” Robin demanded as he pointed at the crater.

“Demons, and something else. This place was.. a listening post for something. What did you say this place was?”

“It was a vessel of Apocalypse.” Robin said quietly.

“It was a vessel all right. It was a freaking space ship!” Xander told him. “It self destructed after I killed the things running it.”

“How did you get out?” Zabuto demanded.

“I don't know.” Xander admitted. “The ship was self destructing while I was pinned underneath two of the demons. All of a sudden I was up there.” Xander told him as he pointed upwards. “I drifted down.”

“What of Kendra?” Zabuto whispered.

“These things killed intruders and left them where they lay. There were bodies that had decayed to just bones in there. Not many, but some.” Xander said as he began to stare into the crater.

The ship had been massive it seemed. The crater went far deeper than Xander had realized as he stared into it.

Unbeknown to three three men, a figure watched them from above. A figure dressed in red.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad new, but you both know what this means.” Xander said as they took his bag out of the car and went into the airport.

“A new Slayer has been called.” Sam Zabuto said quietly.

“I'm sorry sir. I couldn't get here in time.” Xander told him.

“She ran off to tackle these things herself. I... she was headstrong at times.” Sam said. “It isn't your fault son.”

“I wish I could believe that.” Xander said quietly.

Xander sighed as he settled into his seat. Just a short stopover in New York and he would be back in Sunny California.

At least that was what he wanted to happen.

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be.
