I don't the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.
The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.
This is a piece of fan fiction. I make no claim to the characters within it and am not writing this to gain any form of profit. This is mostly done for my own amusement and I hope for the enjoyment for the handfuls of people reading it.
“What is this?” Xander yelled as he looked around. He was floating in a column of red light, with darkness all around him.
“He was right you know. An Eye is upon you.” A voice said from all around him.
“What is this?” Xander repeated. “I was at my graduation, then there was pain. Who's here?”
“You have been judged Alexander. The Earth on which you live is different than the one where we made our temporary home. You have evil there that literally drains the lifeblood of others. Your actions while questionable are no less noble. You defend against the evil of your world. Even now your friends face certain death against an evil of greater than any you've faced before.” The voice said.
“What's happening? If my friends are fighting I need to be there with them. Let me out of here!” He screamed.
There was a chuckle... “Even now you're more concerned about them than yourself. Take hold.” the voice said.
In front of him a cat's eye appeared, it's pupil glowing a bright white. Xander grasped the eye and he felt like fire was coursing through his veins. He screamed as the area around him seemed to fade.
When he came to he was still screaming. He was back at his graduation ceremony. Xander ripped his gown off and clawed at his right knee. His tore the skin off over his patella and saw the Eye he'd seen in his vision. He grasped it and pulled it free from the bone surrounding it. His hand burned as the eye had a hilt and blade form around it.
Xander grasped the sword in his hand and looked around as his knee healed up. They were surrounded by vampires and the mayor was...down for the count. Buffy and the others were doing their best but there were just too many to contain.
Xander held the sword up high in both hands and screamed “HO!” The sword grew to it's full size and the Thundercats symbol lit up the sky. The vampires screamed as their skin started to burn in the red light.
Buffy and the others' eyes lit up as the signal reached it's peak and they got a second wind.
That's when they heard the roar. Everyone, vampires included turned to face the sound. Up near the podium was a monstrously giant snake. It turned and devoured principal Snyder before anyone could even react.
Xander yelled and leaped at the giant snake sword held high, only to be swallowed whole by the demon.
Everyone stared as the snake turned to face the crowd of graduates and paused mid strike as the tip of a blade poked out of it's head. The demon twitched for a moment before collapsing to the ground. It's skull exploded a moment later as Xander stepped out from the remains of the snake dragging Principal Snyder by his suit jacket.
Xander set Snyder down and stepped towards the few vampires that were left. He shook his sword clean and pointed it at the vampires. “Run” he said quietly.
Everyone was quite fortunate that the town's usual state of denial was still in effect that day. After everyone had fled the scene Xander the others had spent a considerable amount of effort in burning the remains of what had once been the mayor. They'd been mostly successful, though it might be years before the grounds of the school were back to normal.
The whole group was sitting around the table of the School's library for what was probably going to be the last time. Xander was the last to join them since he needed to clean some of the Mayor's remains out of his fur. He hadn't bothered shifting back to normal yet.
The Sword of Omens was resting on the table they were sitting around. Most were staring at it while Giles was cleaning his glasses in thought. The sword wasn't quite like the sword from the cartoon though. It wasn't made of metal at all. It was made of bone.
“I felt The Call again.” Oz said for all of them.
“He's right. It was... a rush.” Cordelia said. The Call had seemingly stripped the hair dye that everyone had been using to keep up their old appearances. Everyone was resembling the characters they had dressed up as on Halloween even more than ever.
Not that they were complaining. They didn't have any school officials breathing down their necks about dress codes anymore. Snyder was currently in the hospital due to the acid burns he'd acquired after going down the mayor's gullet.
“I haven't the foggiest what this means. A mystical artifact just doesn't appear out of nowhere.” Giles said.
“It didn't appear out of nowhere Giles. It used to be my kneecap.” Xander explained. “I had a vision and the eye appeared. The sword formed after I ripped the eye out of my leg.”
“But why is it bone?” Oz asked.
“I don't know. It's... the sword is mine right now.” Xander said. “It's mine for as long as it allows me to wield it.”
“How do you know that?” Giles asked him. “We need to study this thing. It needs to be examined by experts. I'm loathe to do this, but maybe I should contact the council.”
“No!” Buffy shouted. “They don't touch this. It isn't' theirs.”
“I know someone that might have an idea about it. I met him last year.” Xander said.
“Who?” Giles asked
“I told you about him, Dr Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme. He's the one that told me an Eye was upon me.” Xander said before yawning. “He's in New York.”
“Are you all right Xander?” Giles asked him.
“I'm fine Giles. Just really tired.” He said.
“You seem.... bigger.” Oz said.
“I'll be the judge of that.” Cordelia said with a grin. “It's been a long day. I think all of us could use a catnap.”
The others laughed while Giles had a worried look on his face. Xander grabbed the sword and cradled it between his hands. “I'm going to head back to the house. Anyone want a lift?” Xander asked the others.
“I need to drive home.” Joyce told him while Buffy and Cordelia both put a hand on his shoulder.
“We still cooking out at my Uncle's later?” Oz asked.
“If he's willing yeah.” Xander said. “Catch you guys later.” He told them before the three of the vanished from sight.
Giles sighed. “I'm not comfortable with him having such a powerful item.” he said to Joyce.
“Did you ever watch the cartoon Giles? The sword isn't evil. He can't even kill a deer for sport with it.” Joyce said with a shake of her head. “It's an unknown. It also saved all of our lives today. Did any of you even know that Mayor Wilkins was going to turn into a giant snake? Something like that doesn't just happen does it?” Joyce asked him.
“No. It doesn't.” Giles said quietly. “I'm going to have to research this.”
“We'll help.” Willow offered.
“Until it's time for the cookout.” Oz added. “My Uncle makes a mean barbecue”
“Thanks.” Giles told them.
Xander almost collapsed as they reappeared in their living room. The two girls supported him as he stumbled. The two girls got him upstairs and he made it to the bed before falling asleep. Cordelia gently took the sword from his hands and set it on the small table next to the bed.
“He's bigger.” Buffy said quietly.
“The eye of Thundera is the source of the Thundercats power isnt' it? Now that it's manifested, I don't know. This is still kind of strange you know? Xander has a magic sword now.”
“Maybe he could give us our weapons after he wakes up.” Buffy said. “I could really use a collapsible staff.”
“You're serious?” Cordelia asked her.
“It was the source of their weapons.” Buffy told her. “I'm going to go lie down. I'll set my alarm for about four, okay?” Buffy asked Cordelia.
“Yeah.” Cordelia said as Buffy walked out of the bedroom. She closed the door and turned to face her unconscious boyfriend. She sighed. “What am I going to do with you?” She asked with a soft smile before heading over to the bed and she started undressing him.
After he was undressed and covered, she joined him in slumber.
“I think I found something.” Willow said from where she was sitting.
“Oh?” Giles asked as he looked up from his own book.
“There's something in this about something called Ascension, but my ancient Hebrew is a little rusty.” Willow told him.
Giles walked over and looked at the passage she'd found. “This is a reference for a set of books. We need to books themselves.” He said before rubbing his forehead. He looked over to Oz, “Have you found anything?” he asked the teen.
“I found a really old recipe for nachos.” Oz told him.
Giles sighed and took the book from Oz. He translated the title out loud.. “To Serve Man.”
“It's a cookbook.” Oz said with a grin.
Giles sighed. “I need a drink.”
“My Uncle's going to have beer for adults at the barbecue, you should come.” Oz offered.
“Where is this going to be?” Giles asked him.
Oz told him.
“I'll be there. In all my time here, I haven't been to a traditional cookout. It'll be a change of pace to say the least.” Giles said after a few moment's silence.
“Cool. We'll see you there.” Oz said before Willow threw down a smoke pellet.
Once they were in his van Oz asked her. “Was that necessary?”
“Force of habit?” Willow said with a shrug. “You wanted out of there too right?”
“Point.” Oz said with a grin. “Let's go find a place to park. I got some new shocks put in.”
“You say the sweetest things sometimes.” Willow told her boyfriend.
Xander stretched as he awoke and Cordelia snuggled into his side. He looked down and moved his hand down her back which caused her to shiver a bit before opening her eyes.
“Hey.” He said to her.
“Hey yourself. Feeling better?” She asked him.
“Much. Where's...” He began
“The nightstand.” Cordelia said
Xander turned his head to look for the sword and found it resting comfortably in it's claw sheath which was also made out of bone.
“Huh. That wasn't there before was it?” He asked her.
“No. Why bone though? Do you think it knows something we don't?” Cordelia wondered.
“Beats me.” Xander said before picking up the claw sheath and putting it on his left hand. “Oh that feels weird.” He said as he held up his arm. The two teens watched the claw shield sink into his arm, effectively hiding the sword and shield from sight.
Xander flexed his hand. “That was different.” He said with wide eyes. “Talk about your concealed weapons.”
“At least we know whose bone it's made out of. It must have grown that while we were asleep. Is it supposed to be so... organic?” Cordelia asked him.
“I don't know. Different time, different place. There's no Thundera that I know of.” Xander said with a shrug. “Let's get dressed and get see what Buffy's up to.”
Cordelia nodded and went to her dresser to get some fresh clothes out.
“Do I smell coffee?” Xander asked as the two teens wandered downstairs.
“You do.” Buffy called from the kitchen. “Fresh pot.” She said as she handed them both a cup.
Xander and Cordelia thanked her for the coffee and they sat at the kitchen table with the other two residents of the house.
“You two feeling better?” Joyce asked them.
“Much.” Xander said with a nod before sipping his coffee. “You guys make the potato salad?”
“Yep.” Buffy said with a nod. “We're going to need more mayonnaise but yes, it's made.”
“Good. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to this cookout.” Xander said with a grin.
“You just want to compete in the rib eating contest.” Buffy argued.
Xander banged his head on the table while the others laughed.
“Who told you?” He asked her.
“Oz.” Buffy laughed.
“Where's the secrecy between men? I swear.” He muttered.
“Well, he told Willow, who told me.” Buffy said. “You know she can't keep a secret.”
“Yet he confides in her anyways.” Cordelia said as she sipped her coffee.
“It's a couples thing.” Joyce told them. “Finish up so we can head out.”
Xander sighed and focused on changing his form back to human. It took some doing but he managed it after a few seconds of concentration. “You know, this form doesn't feel right these days.” He said quietly.
“That's to be expected.” Buffy told him as she patted his shoulder.
David Osbourne stared in shock. “I can't believe he ate the whole thing.” he said.
“He was hungry.” Oz told his uncle.
“But that was seventy five dollars worth of meat! The human stomach can't hold that much!” His uncle half yelled.
Oz raised a brow. “Says the werewolf.”
“Your scent has changed again.” His uncle told him after a moment of shared silence.
“More cat than usual?” Oz asked.
“Yep.” David said. “Graduation was a bit different wasn't it?”
“Yeah. You get the videotapes?” OZ asked.
“Got em, burned 'em. That sort of thing doesn't need to get to the public.” David said. “We were lucky your aunt was the one who was contracted to record the thing for the school.”
“And you used to make fun of her hobby.” Oz smirked.
“I did until it started paying for itself.” His uncle countered. “Now go help your friend stand up. It looks like he's having issues moving.”
Oz nodded and headed over to his friend. “I think I need an antacid.” Xander said to Oz.
“Let's get you some.” Oz said quietly. “There's going to be cake later.”
“I could go for some cake.” Xander said while he stopped clutching his stomach. “Gotta love the fast healing.”
“You're still going to pay for that later.” Oz told him.
“Oh I know. I'll make sure to use the school toilets for that. No sense clogging up the Summer's plumbing.” Xander assured the teen.
“Good.” Oz said. “So when are you leaving?”
“Next week. My uncle Rory is getting me a refitted Latverian van. Says it's like a tank. Decent gas mileage too, it's got one of those new Diesel systems.”
“You got a DoomMobile?” Oz asked. “How?”
“Apparently my uncle knows some people overseas.” Xander said with a shrug. “Maybe that's where my folks ended up. I'm not asking, he's not telling.”
“I see.” Oz said. “Think he could get me one? I hear you don't need to do much maintenance on those things ever.”
“You don't.” Xander said. “That's the beauty of it. Say, did your uncle buy any wet naps? I know my face is slathered in sauce right now.”
“I'll get you some if you talk to your uncle for me.” Oz countered.
“Deal.” Xander agreed.
“I still can't believe you're leaving.” Willow sniffed.
“Hey, I'll be around if you need. me.” Xander said while tapping his left arm. “In fact, before I leave I guess I'd better leave you guys with some goodies of your own.”
Buffy, Willow and Oz perked up at that.
Xander put his right hand over his left forearm and the hilt of the blade moved from under his skin. He pulled the sword and held it up. “Same old bag of tricks for you two.” Xander said to Oz and Willow
The eye opened and a beam of light struck the ground. There were two pouches and two small lassos for them to use.
“Sweet! This can add to what we already make.” Willow enthused as she put her pouch on and played with her rope a bit.
“And for me?” Buffy asked.
“One staff and bracelet holster.” Xander agreed before the eye opened again making the weapons appear on the ground.
Buffy put on her bracelet and smiled. “It's good to have it back.” She said. “Well, sort of.”
“You got her speed this time didn't you?” Xander asked her.
Buffy nodded. “Our little secret.” She said with a grin. “Go. Be good. And I expect postcards.”
“Are you ready yet?” Cordelia called as she loaded her last bag into the back of his DoomMobile.
The van was similar to the old VW vans but the driver's seat was on the right side, the van was also heavier than the normal van. It also only came in one color, gray. Xander had it repainted to look like the Mystery Machine a few days back. It had cost a pretty penny, but it was completely worth it. It had taken some pleading with the DMV but he'd gotten the plate to read JINKIES.
Both Xander and Cordelia were itching to hit the road. For Xander it was more wanderlust than anything else, Cordelia just wanted to get away from Sunnydale for a while. Either way, they were going together.
Their main destination was anywhere but Sunnydale, but Xander wanted to head East. Back to New York. He'd liked his brief stay on the East Coast and Xavier or Strange might be able to get him in contact with his younger brother. That was something he'd been putting off for a while.
“Let's go.” Xander said before getting in the van. “Later guys.” He called. “If you need me, I'll be around.” He promised.
“Later man.” Oz said. “Thanks for the hook up.” He'd gotten his own van from Xander's uncle had gotten a similar paint job.
The two teen drove off and Xander ran over the 'Welcome to Sunnydale' sign out of spite.
The van didn't even slow down with the hit.
“I love this car!” Xander yelled with a whoo.
“Nice. Say, you think that eye of yours can predict the lottery?” Cordelia asked him.
“Doubt it why?” He asked her.
“I could use some financial solvency of my own is all. It's that or work for it.” She said with a smile.
“You could always dance for it. Some of the highest paying jobs in the world involve that kind of talent.” Xander said with a lecherous grin.
“Sorry, but no. Stop at a gas station. There's a high jackpot this week.” Cordelia told him.
“I'll do it when we get to LA. We can stop there for the night before heading East. Deal?” Xander asked her.
“Fancy hotel?” Cordelia asked.
“Of course.” Xander said. “We're doing this in style after all.”
At the hotel....
“I can't believe this!” Cordelia muttered. “I buy seventeen different tickets and only match less than three the numbers, all on different tickets, and you let the store's computer randomly get one and you win! Not to mention the scratchers! Ten scratchers! That's over twenty grand!”
“I guess I have the devil's luck sometimes.” Xander shrugged. “How much was the payout for the big one?”
“A hundred and twenty million.” Cordelia said.
“Half and Half?” Xander offered.
“Really?” Cordelia asked.
“Sure, it's only money.” Xander said with a grin.
Cordelia squealed as she hugged him. “You are so getting lucky tonight!”
“Well at least this way, even after taxes we don't have to worry about road trip money.” Xander said. “Race you to the bed.”
“Oh this is so wrong.” Xander muttered as cameras went off.
“Smile for the nice lady.” Cordelia said between her teeth. “We can leave the state in a few more hours once everything is sorted.”
“Yes Dear.” Xander said with a false smile of his own.
“God, I'm glad that's over.” Xander said as they drove down the Interstate.
Cordelia adjusted her 300 hundred dollar sunglasses. “It's good to be back in real clothes.” She said with a happy grin. “Come on, smile!” She said happily as she bounced in her seat.
“Well, I'm donating a good portion of mine to charity.” Xander said firmly.
“You're not going to guilt me into doing the same are you?” Cordelia pleaded.
“Nope. Not this time.” Xander said.
“What do you mean this time?” Cordelia asked.
“Call it a hunch.” Xander shrugged. “It'd be pretty chaotic wouldn't it?” he added with a grin.
“Let's hold off until we get to a Big Game state.” Cordelia suggested. “That's a ways off from here.”
“How do you know so much about lotteries?” He asked her.
“It was that or be an actress. I've got the looks but not the lack of scruples.” She said with a shrug. “Closest state is Illinois.”
“That will take a while.” He said. “you deal with the music and such.” Xander said. “We're going to take our time on this.”
“Wouldn't have it any other way.” Cordelia said with a smile as she turned on the radio.
“On the road again.” was a good way to truly start the trip.
