Chapter 25

I don't the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.

The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.

Spider Man was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

The Rhino was created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr.

This is a piece of fan fiction. I make no claim to the characters within it and am not writing this to gain any form of profit. This is mostly done for my own amusement and I hope for the enjoyment for the handfuls of people reading it.

Chapter 25

Xander surveyed the scene from a building's corner from up above. Spider-Man was fighting a guy who was wearing a Rhino suit. It would look silly on anyone, but the guy was massive and he didn't look like he was joking around if the upturned cars and damaged building fronts were any indication.

Spider-Man was trying to use his webs to trip up the Rhino but they were sliding off his suit. It wasn't working. Spider-Man jumped over the charging villain and waited for the man to turn and charge at him again. It looked like he was going to try to use brute force to take this guy down.

Xander winced as he heard the impact. The Rhino was thrown back but Spider-Man was clutching his bruised hand. He teleported over the Rhino and became visible as he increased his mass to it's greatest amount. He landed on the man's stomach, effectively knocking the wind out of him. He flipped back and landed near Spider-Man. “Is this a two person show or can anyone join in?” He asked the Wall Crawler.

Spider-Man looked at the new arrival skeptically. “Aren't you worried about Copyright infringement?”

“Do I look like a cartoon character? Hang on, I probably do. No, I don't. I might resemble one, but I'm here to help.” Xander told him.

“Who are you?” Spider-Man asked him as the Rhino struggled to get up.

“I'm called Cheshire.” Xander said as his claw shield surfaced from under his skin. “You mind if we double deck him?”

“Sounds like a plan. On three.” Spider-Man said as the Rhino began charging the two of them.

“Count to three or just say three?” Xander asked him.

“Does it really.. Three!” Spider-Man called as the Rhino was upon them.

The two costumed heroes both slammed a fist into the Rhino's chin with considerable force. The man's head snapped back and the man lost all of his momentum, falling over on the spot.

The two waited for a second. “I don't think he's getting up.” Spider-Man said.

“Good.” Xander said before whistling loudly and waving the police over.

“It's been fun, but I have to go.” Spider-Man said. “The police don't like me too much.” He told Xander before leaping up and casting a web line and swinging off.

Xander faded from sight and followed the man in red and blue. Spider-Man stopped his trek and looked around.

“Cheshire... Are you following me?” He called out.

“Ah, you caught me.” Cheshire said as her reappeared in mid air in front of the Wall Crawler. “I was curious.” Cheshire said with a grin.

“Like a cat.” Spider-Man said. “I don't like being tailed.”

“Fine fine.” Cheshire said before fading from sight. “Later Spider.” he called before teleporting several hundred feet above his previous location.

He watched Spider-Man swing off and head back to the scene of the battle. He drifted over and watched the Web Slinger retrieve something from an alcove on a building before swinging away in a different direction.

“What the hell was he doing?” Xander muttered before teleporting down to where the other hero had been. He looked and saw traces of webbing, he sniffed it. “Bleh, synthetic...” He muttered before turning around and staring. It was a prime viewing point of the fight. Shrugging mostly to himself he teleported back to Xavier's place.

“I'm back.” Xander called as he became visible.

“Hey.” Cordelia said from the bed. She was busy reading a magazine dedicated to all the real and imagined details going on in the lives of actual and almost celebrities. She looked up. “You have fun?”

“Some. Spider guy's kind of paranoid. He thought I was following him.” Xander said with a snort. “Like I'd do that.”

She looked at him.

“Fine, I was following him. Doc Strange said we were a lot alike. He sensed me even when I was invisible. Either he's got enhanced senses too, or something else.” Xander said. “I got his scent though. If I run into him again, I'll know.”

“Don't go looking for trouble.” Cordelia warned him.

“Do I normally?” he asked her.

They shared a look and both started laughing hysterically.

The Next Morning....

Cordelia and Xander came out into the kitchen in search of breakfast. Ororo, Jean and Scott were at the table eating already. Logan and Professor Xavier were elsewhere. Xander looked in the pantry and the fridge before opting to make Oatmeal and Eggs. Cordelia helped herself to a half a grapefruit and Xander cooked her some eggs on the side.

“Morning.” Xander said to the others when he set his food at the table.

“You made the paper.” Ororo commented from behind her copy of 'The Daily Bugle.'

Xander looked at the cover of the paper. “Can I see that when you're done?” He asked her.

“Want to start a scrapbook of your exploits?” Scott asked him.

“Not exactly.” Xander said. The picture was at an odd angle, one that he'd seen the night before. After Ororo was done with the paper she handed him the paper. He looked at the picture and saw the byline for it. “Peter Parker” He murmured. He'd have to look into it later today.

“Say, who's up for a trip to the city? Do all the big tourist stuff today?” Xander asked the others.

“You know I'm up for it.” Cordelia said. “Though we could use a guide.”

“We've been to the city plenty of times.” Scott said. “We've got some chores to do around the place, but after that we're free.”

“Hey, kid.” Logan called as he came into the kitchen.

“What's up?” Xander asked.

“You and me are going for a run today. Full mass for you.” Logan told him. “After that, you're free for the day.”

“You want to test my endurance.” Xander surmised.

“Yeah.” Logan said. “Unless you're chicken.”

Xander looked at Cordelia who shrugged. “Go for it.” She told him.

“Let me get changed.” Xander told Logan.

“Be quick about it.” Logan grunted.

Three and a half hours later....

“They're still going?” Scott asked Jean as the two men completed another circuit of the mansion's grounds.

“Yep.” Jean said before turning a page in her book. Watching the two run had gotten boring after the twentieth lap. She instead, continued her summer reading. She only had a few more pages before she could write her report.

The sun was setting....

“Draw?” Xander huffed to Logan.

“One more lap.” Logan gasped.

Xander poured on the speed and Logan did the same. The made their way to the starting point and both men were gasping as they finally stopped, their legs burning from the exertion despite their regenerative abilities.

Cordelia was there with a large pitcher of lemonade and two glasses. “You two done being idiots?” She asked them.

“Still.” Xander heaved. “Have... to arm wrestle each other.”

“Kid, you're all right.” Logan said as he took the proffered glass from Xander's girlfriend.

“Thanks, I guess.” Xander said as he took a sip of his own lemonade. “Oh this is terrible.” He said, wincing at the sour taste.

“I made it.” Cordelia huffed.

“Did you mistake teaspoons for tablespoons again?” He asked her.

“I try and do something nice.” She said before going inside.

Logan chuckled. “Better go after her kid.” he said before trying the lemonade. “Damn this is awful.”

“Yeah.” Xander said before heading into the air conditioned mansion.

“Cordelia, the lemonade wasn't that bad.” Xander lied as he tried to talk to his girlfriend.

“You said you wanted to go to the city today. Instead you waste the entire day in some macho competition with that guy who's old enough to be your father.” She told him.

“I'm sorry. I got caught up in it.” Xander said. “I really am sorry. It was... I can't... I had to win. It's... an alpha thing.”

“You were struggling for dominance?” She asked him, curious

“He's... kind of feral himself. It's hard to explain.” Xander said. “He knows my folks. He's... a really tough bastard. I don't know if I could take him in a fair fight.”

“I'll forgive you this one time since I did give you permission.” She said after a few moments of silence. “But don't make a habit of this okay?”

“I'll try.” Xander promised her. “I stink don't I?”

“You do. Go shower and get dressed. You owe me an expensive meal for ruining our day.”

“Yes Ma'am.” Xander grinned.

It had taken about a week of light research but he thought he had gotten a couple of answers to the questions he had about Spider-Man. Peter Parker was the Bugle's #1 photographer for action shots of Spider-Man. He was a senior in High School and currently lived with his aunt. His uncle had been killed in a breaking and entering a while back.

He'd stopped near the home one night and picked up a familiar scent. It was his.

Peter Parker was Spider-Man.

His aunt was in some dire financial straights and a large part of their income came from Peter's pictures.

After purchasing a few things Xander and Cordelia headed to the Parker home one fine Sunday afternoon.

Xander rang the bell. After a few moments, the door opened and a gray haired woman in her mid fifties or sixties opened the door. “Yes? Can I help you?”

“Are you May Parker?” Xander asked her.

“I am, can I help you two?” She asked the visitors.

“Actually, I think we can help you Ms. Parker. My girlfriend and I have come into some money recently, and well I've been doing some charitable things. We came across the story about your husband... well. We'd like to help you out.”

“My nephew and I are doing just fine.” May Parker said firmly. “We don't need any chairity.”

“Half a million dollars in Bearer Bonds.” Xander told her. “No questions asked. It'll pay off your mortgage, and get you some decent medical insurance among other things. Please.” Xander finished quietly while holding out an envelope.

“Who are you people really?” She asked. “People don't do this.”

“Just take it Ms. Parker.” Cordelia said. “If you don't he's just going to keep on insisting. He's donated money to churches, schools and other places. Why not a grieving widow as well? There aren't any cameras or reporters here. Just between us.”

May took the envelope with a shaking hand. “Thank you. What are your names?”

“It doesn't matter ma'am. Be well.” Xander said before turning around and heading back towards his van.

“Just keep the money.” Cordelia told her. “It'll be easier for both of us that way.” She said before walking off herself.

May Parker stared as the teens drove off in their van. “Those meddling kids...” She whispered before heading inside.

She sat down in her kitchen and opened the envelope. She spread the bearer bonds on the table. She stared at them through watery eyes.

Peter found her like this when he got home an hour later.

Spider-Man stared out over the New York skyline. He was clinging to the side of the Empire state building just out of sight of the hundreds of tourists that visited the building each day.

His aunt didn't need his help with the finances for the time being due to two charitable strangers. But were they strangers? What if it was someone that wanted to bribe her to get to him? He'd had some close calls before about people discovering his identity.

“Don't sweat it Parker.” A voice said from next to him.

Spider-Man looked up and saw Cheshire appear next to him. His spider sense hadn't gone off. Strange.

“Who are you?” Spider-Man demanded.

“I'm just a meddling kid.” Cheshire grinned. “You didn't know I was here did you?” he asked the masked man.

“No.” Spider-Man growled.

“Malicious intent?” Cheshire asked him. “Is that what triggers it?”

“Most of the time.” Spider-Man said. “What do you want?”

“To be friends. We avatars need to stick together.” Cheshire said.

“What are you talking about?” Spider-Man demanded.

“How did you get your powers exactly? Accident or what?” Cheshire asked him. “You were chosen in a way. By the Spiders. There's someone in Greenwich village you should talk to about it.” He said before fading from sight.

Spider-Man swore to himself before heading off to somewhere else in the city.

“So what's the what?” Xander asked Charles after being called into his office.

“Cerebro has detected a mutant whose power has become active in the Black Forest area of Germany. I was curious if you wanted to go see if we could recruit him.”

“You're talking about my brother aren't you?” Xander asked him.

“Yes I am. The Plane leaves in two hours. You have until then to make your decision.” Xavier told him.

AN: From here on out this is going to mostly coincide with the X-Men Evolution time line. I'm going to rewatch the series before adding any more. I'll start regularly updating 'Son of Spengler' tomorrow.
