I don't own the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Emma Frost was created by Chris Claremont and John Bryne.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.
The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.
“What the hell happened?” Mesmero demanded.
“The clone was conscious. He had a mind. Genetic memory wasn't something I anticipated.” Essex explained. “If I still had any samples I'd know what to look for now, but he destroyed everything related to him.”
“We're going to have to go another route then.” Mesmero stated. “I've come up with another viable subject we could clone without problem. In the end, the clone will serve the same purpose as it's original.”
“I'm listening.” Essex said after a few moments.
“Can I see the sword again?” Ben asked Xander.
“Sure.” Xander said before handing the sword over to his clone.
Ben held up the sword and it bathed him glowing blue light. Once it was over he handed over the sword.
“What was that for?” Xander asked.
“Just a little alteration.” Ben said as he let his fur grow out. It was white and black and he had blue eyes.
“Nice.” Xander said with a nod. “That your base form now?”
“Yup.” Ben said as he shifted the fur to Xander's normal black, blue and red. “See.”
“Cool.” Xander nodded. “Thanks for that.”
“This is the start of the point of divergence. Well the start was when I woke up but you get the picture.” Ben told him.
“Multiplicity.” Xander said, remembering the film. “You're not going to sleep with Cordelia while I'm somewhere else are you?”
Ben started whistling innocently.
“Oh you prick.” Xander said.
“Kidding.” Ben told him.
“Bastard.” Xander muttered.
Ben shrugged. “No point in denying it.”
“Where do you think you're going?” Ben asked the group of younger mutants.
“Ummm... out for a ride?” Bobby said sheepishly.
“No you're not. Instead, we're going to go down to the danger room and go through a few simulations. If you've got enough energy for late night joy rides, you have enough energy to train.”
“I told you guys this was a bad idea.” Jamie muttered.
“Quiet twerp.” Bobby said to his roommate.
Ben smacked the back of the ice maker's head. “You should really listen to him, he's a regular Jiminy Cricket sometimes.”
“Told you.” Jamie said, sticking his tongue out at Bobby.
“Everybody, elevator.” Ben ordered.
“You can't order us around.” Jubilee told him.
“Why not?” Ben asked.
“Cause we're older than you.” Bobby told him.
Ben smacked Bobby's head again. “Elevator, now.” He ordered.
The kids shoulders slumped, but they complied.
“Well everyone seems chipper this morning.” Xavier said as he walked into the dining room.
“Ohhhhhh...” some of the newer recruits groaned.
“Next time, we'll do the medium level course.” Ben told them. “You want to joyride we can go to a go-kart place this weekend.”
“Promise?” Jamie asked.
“Promise.” Ben answered.
“Cool.” Jamie said with a grin.
“Why isn't he tired?” Someone asked.
“I'm a copy. Fatigue can be spread around too.” Jamie told them.
“Where's the real you?” Bobby asked.
“Sleeping somewhere safe.” The copy grinned.
A week later....
“Right, here's the bank card and credit card. Don't lose them.” Xander said, handing over the cards to his clone.
“These are tied to your account?” Ben asked.
“Yeah, so don't go crazy without calling.” Xander told him.
“Generous.” Ben said as he slipped them into his new wallet.
“Not really. Cordy's accounts were separated once she found out about you. Hers have grown a lot due to her skills at estate management while mine are dwindling.” Xander told him.
“We're still loaded though right?” Ben asked.
“Yep.” Xander nodded. “So now what?”
“I get me some wheels and make like a tree and get out of here.” Ben told him.
“What is it with you and movie references?” Xander asked.
Ben shrugged. “Seemed appropriate.”
“You wanted to see me?” Ben asked the Xavier.
“There's someone I want you to keep an eye on.” Xavier told him. “He's a good kid right now, but that can change.”
“Why me?” Xander asked him.
“Due to his power, exposing him to so many mutants at once would be a bad thing.” Xavier told him.
“Where is he?” Ben asked. “Better yet, what's his name?”
“His name is Calvin Rankin and he lives in Passaic, New Jersey.” Xavier told him. “His power let's him copy the powers of other mutants though only to about half the level of the original.”
“I can see how that would be a problem.” Ben said after some thought. “But still, Jersey? You're asking a lot there Prof.” Ben grinned.
“Please Ben. This is one that we can't neglect. He's got far too much potential.” Xavier told him.
“Fine.” Ben agreed. “I'll go talk to him.”
“I want you to take him with you for a while. Show him the world.” Xavier told him.
“Why?” Ben asked.
“You're free from most of the restrictions Xander has placed upon himself Ben. On your own you could easily do what Xander has done in the past. Those rampages; intentional or not, were quite noticeable. I want you to have someone that you can mentor. By doing so, I hope you won't let everything that Xander was fall to the wayside as you find your own identity.”
Ben was quiet for a few minutes. “I get it. I really do.” He said softly. “Thanks Chuck.”
“I'll be here if you want to talk Ben. This can't be easy for you.” Xavier told him.
“It's not. I'd gotten used to sleeping in a bed with Cordelia by my side. I miss it more than I thought I would.” Ben said. “It's.... I'm single again after just getting married. My wife is married to another man, even though I know that isn't true.”
Xavier nodded. “Have you picked out a vehicle?”
“I'll be getting another Latverian van. The latest models have even better gas mileage.” Ben said. “Can't go wrong with a DoomMobile.”
“Sad, but true.” Xavier grinned.
“Well, I guess this is it.” Ben said as he closed the trunk of his new van. “Thanks for getting past the waiting list.” Ben said to Xander.
“Not a problem. Forge disable the bugs?” Xander asked.
“He did. Technically they don't exist since so far the only people who've detected them are Forge and Richards. As it stands very few of the vehicles are bugged anyways. I think it's more posturing than anything else.” Ben said.
“You've got a point. You'll be back for the holidays right?” Xander asked.
“With bells on.” Ben answered.
The two men looked at each other for a moment before hugging.
“Be safe.” Xander said.
“You do the same.” Ben told him.
Passaic New Jersey a day later....
Ben stopped his van outside of the laundromat. He looked in through the window and saw a blond male teen look up from his laundry.
“Proximity.” Ben said quietly before reaching for his cell phone. “Chuck it's Ben. I'm here and he knows it. I'll make contact with you again in a week.”
“Something on your mind?” Spider-Man asked Cheshire as he found the man coasting around the city on his board.
“I got cloned.” Cheshire told him.
“Join the club.” Spidey groused.
“Mine has my memories. He escaped and made it to Xavier's.” Cheshire said as he coasted down to a roof top.
“So where is he now?” Spider-Man asked.
“On the road. He said he'll write and be back in time for the holidays.” Cheshire said.
“Those wacky clones.” Spider joked. “It'll get better right?”
“It should. Where's that girl of yours?” Cheshire asked.
“Drama practice. She'll be around in about.....” Spider-Man trailed off.
“Howdy Tiger.” Spider-Woman called as she landed on the roof.
“Nowish.” Spider-Man finished.
“Why is he so down?” Spider-Woman asked while jabbing a thumb in Cheshire's direction.
“He got cloned.” Spider-Man told her.
“Oh.” Spider-Woman said before going quiet. “So what else is new?” She asked Cheshire.
Cheshire sighed. “I thought I had a bad attention span.”
Spider-Man tried not to laugh, but failed miserably.
A diner... somewhere in New Jersey....
“So I can copy other mutants?” Calvin asked him.
“For a limited time. You can keep up to five from what I've been told.” Ben told him as he sipped his coffee.
“Why me?” Calvin asked.
“Quirk of nature.” Ben said with a shrug. “So I have to ask, how does it feel?”
“When you got close by, I could feel it. Then everything became a lot clearer you know? Things were brighter, louder and a whole lot smellier.” Calvin told him. “What else can you do?”
“You'd be surprised.” Ben grinned. “Finish your pie kid.”
Back at Xavier's...
“Why'd he leave?” Jamie asked Cordelia.
“He had to sweetie. He can't live Xander's life for him.” Cordelia told the young mutant.
“But my copies stay here.” Jamie said softly. “Why don't they have to leave?”
“Your ability is yours Jamie. Ben's a clone. He was grown for whatever reason. He can't live here day in and day out watching Xander live his life from the outside. It isn't healthy. Besides, you can reabsorb your clones, Xander can't do that with Ben.” She explained.
“Oh.” Jamie said softly. “He'll be back right?”
“Of course he will.” Cordelia told him. “This place is his home, sort of.”
“Good. He's fun to play with.” Jamie told her.
“If you say so.” Cordelia grinned.
