Chapter 8

“Xander!” Willow squealed as she saw her best friend for the first time in several months.

“Willow!” Xander said as he picked up his best friend and spun her around in a circle.

“Whoa, dizzy.” Willow said after Xander set her down.

“How are you doing Wills? Have a good time with your family?” Xander asked her.

“My grandparents are awesome. Grandma's arthritis wasn't acting up so we actually got to do some activities at her friends ranch. Horses, lots of fun by the way.” Willow told him. “So what have you been up to this summer?” She asked him.

“This and that.” Xander said. “Hey, There's a double feature playing at the Majestic, wanna go?”

“What kind of double feature?” Willow asked.

“Heston double feature.” Xander said with a girn. “So Awesome.” He told her with a nod.

“Sounds fun.” Willow said.

“So what have you and Giles been doing all summer?” Willow asked Xander as they walked back towards her house after getting some ice cream.

“Working my ass off mostly. Reading too.” Xander said as he took a spoonful of chocolate ice cream. He paused as he heard something.

“What?” Willow asked him.

“It's been a pretty quiet summer save for a few incidents.” Xander told her while stopping her with his arm and he shook his head.

Willow stopped moving and looked at him as he handed her his ice cream.

Xander stepped forward and grabbed something out of the bushes and slammed it into the asphalt. He pulled out a short knife that had an unusually wide blade. He forced the body onto its front and shoved the knife between two vertebrae of the vampire he'd surprised, paralyzing it from the neck down.

“We've had a few vampires crop up here and there but its been pretty quiet at night till now.” Xander told her as he began rifling through the vampire's pockets.

“What did you just do?” Willow asked startled.

“This bastard,” Xander said while emphasizing his point by kicking the vampire in the side, “Was going to ambush us and kill us. Turns out the physiology of a vampire,” Xander began before smiling. “I know big words. The Physiology is nearly identical to a humans save for not needing to breathe and such. So where you can paralyze a human, you can do the same to a vampire.”

“You're robbing it.” Willow said flatly, disbelieving what she was seeing.

“I donate ten percent to church. I mostly just loot some crypts that vamps hide in during the day. This is the first time I've actively encountered one at night since the Hellmouth opened. It was a bitch to find these bastards otherwise but I managed. It's like they hibernate in summers or something. Giles couldn't really explain it, but hey 'Sunny California'.” Xander told her while pocketing the things wallet.

“You have been.... busy.” Willow said.

Xander removed the knife and staked the vampire in a practiced movement. He stood up and sheathed both weapons underneath his Hawaiian shirt. “Yeah. It's a good thing you went to visit your relatives. I wouldn't have had a lot of free time to hang out.” Xander said before he looked past Willow and smiled. “Hey Buffy.”

“Xander, Willow.” Buffy said with a grin. “Good time on the Hellmouth huh?” Buffy said while looking at the pile of dust.

“Yeah. Welcome back, both of you.” Xander said to his two best friends.

“It's good to be back.” Buffy said with a grin.

“Sure is.” Willow said with a matching smile.

The three teens walked off into the night talking about their various experiences that had happened over the summer.

In the distance Angel stared, “She's alive. How?” he asked himself

“Okay Xander, I have all the ingredients I need for the spell save for one.” Jenny Calendar told Xander as he sat down on the lawn chair she had on small patio.

“What do you need?” Xander asked her.

“Your blood.” Jenny told him, gaging his reaction.

“How much do you need?” Xander asked her.

“A small bowl full.” Jenny said as she produced a small bowl made of hard plastic.

Xander shrugged. “Fine, you need to use some ritual knife or something?” Xander asked her.

“No just the blood Xander.” Jenny told him.

Xander nodded and extended the claw in his left index finger, he used the claw to cut open the artery in his right wrist. He held it open and filled the bowl quickly. Once the bowl was full he removed his claw and the wound healed over in moments.

“That's more than enough Xander.” Jenny said as she took the bowl of blood from him. She picked up a small paint brush and motioned for Xander to sit down on the ground. He did and Jenny painted a circle around him in his own blood. She set up four crystals around him and lit some incense.

“Close your eyes and breathe Xander. I'm going to cast the spell now. You should see all of those you are related to by blood within of yours and the previous generation. You should also know their names if I perform the spell correctly.” Jenny said before she began chanting in Romany.

Xander's sight clouded for a moment before the visions began.

His first vision was of a heavily muscled blond man with long canine teeth tearing into a rabbit that had been roasted over a fire. He knew this man was his genetic father, Victor Creed. He was in Canada

The second vision was of a woman with dark blue skin, yellow eyes and blood red hair. She was firing a submachine gun into a crowd of what appeared to be soldiers. She ducked a corner and her form shifted into that of a peasant woman. This was his mother, Raven Darkholme. She was in Latveria

The third vision was that of a man with brown hair a few years older than Xander himself. He was severely beating a woman who'd given up on defending herself. He knew this was his brother, Graydon Creed. He was in Ohio.

There was one more vision after this, a blue furred boy with three fingers on each hand and two toes on equally different feet. He had a tail as well, but his eyes were that of his mothers. This was his half brother, Kurt Wagner. He was in Germany.

Xander's eyes snapped open. “Whoa.” he told his computer teacher.

“You see what you wanted to?” Jenny asked him.

“More than I wanted to.” Xander told her. “More than I wanted to.” He repeated softly.
“This is silly.” Buffy said as she stared at Xander.

“I assure you it isn't.” Giles told her from off to the side. “I've trained Xander extensively this summer, he is quite capable in all sorts of armed and unarmed combat and will be your sparring partner from now on.”

“But Giles.” Buffy whined.

“Come on Buffy, just hit me. Don't let this get weird.” Xander told her.

“If you say so.” Buffy said with a half smile before she made a fist.

“It got weird.” Buffy said as she sat up.

“If you say so Buffy.” Xander said with a grin.

“I've never been body slammed like that before.” Buffy said before wincing. “You did that to the vampire last night. That hurt.... a lot.” She said while standing.

“It's meant to, the shock to the spine is quite... startling.” Giles said. “Very good Xander, this time stick to less.... use of your body mass.”

“Yes sir.” Xander said.

“What do you mean body mass?” Buffy asked.

“Xander, at his weekly weigh in topped the scales at three hundred pounds.” Giles told her. “It is a considerable amount of mass for him to throw around.”

“That explains why it hurt so much.” Buffy said as she stood up.

Xander grinned and got into a ready stance. “Come on Buffy, pay me back. I take a licking and keep on healing.”

“You're on mister.” Buffy said before attacking.

Willow watched on, awestruck as her two best friends began to pummel the living snot out of each other. She just wished they weren't grinning like lunatics.

“So what did you guys end up doing with the Master's bones?” Buffy asked Xander as they went into the Bronze.

“Soaked it in holy water, had it cremated and pounded it to bits before we spread the ashes out to sea.” Xander told her.

Willow frowned. “I thought you and Giles buried the remains in consecrated ground?” She asked Xander.

“Oh, we did. I did some reading and found out there was a chance that the Master's followers could resurrect him using the bones and the people closest to the body when it died. I had to not only bury it, I had to dig it back up too.” Xander told them before going to get them drinks from the bar.

“So he's not coming back?” Buffy asked hopefully as Xander handed Willow and Buffy their drinks.

“Not unless they do some weird ritual involving a scroll and some thirteen odd vampires to sacrifice, and even then he'd be human.” Xander said.

Willow's eyes boggled. “How much reading did you do this summer?”

“More than I wanted to but on the plus side I can read and mostly speak ancient Sumerian.” He said with a grin. “So Buffy, no hard feelings about today?” Xander asked the Slayer.

“You sat on me.” She said with a pout.

“It worked didn't it?” He told her with a laugh. “You'll need to work on your upper body strength. Don't worry, Giles and I can run you through the stuff I did, You'll get stronger in no time. He assures me your Slayer abilities will help you to improve greatly.”

“Aren't I strong enough?” Buffy asked.

“Strength and fighting skills can slack without proper training and conditioning, even as a Slayer. Besides, the stronger you are the better your chance for survival against most of the things you might encounter here Buffy.”

Buffy looked at him in thought. “You're right I guess, but training with Giles is boring.”

“You'll be training with me, and it'll never be boring. Honestly if you had done half the stuff I did with Giles you wouldn't be bored. I honestly think he's been coddling you.” Xander said with a smirk.

“What?” Buffy said indignantly.

“Let's go hunting and I can show you. But first we need to get Willow home safe and sound.” Xander said with an apologetic smile to his oldest friend.

“Guys, I'll be fine.” Willow told them.

“Uh-huh” The other two teens said in unison.

“Oh fine.” Willow huffed.

“The Master is gone, his remains aren't where we thought they were. What do we do?” A vampire asked the Anointed One.

“Well you could always do what I say.” A British accented voice said as two vampires made their way into the warehouse. “Nice lack of a lookout by the way.” the vampire said with a hint of snark.

“Who are you?” A vampire known as Dalton asked.

“I'm Spike, and this lovely girl is my Dru.” Spike said with a grin. We'll be taking over where The Master left off.”

“What claim do you have to the Master's bloodline?” The Anointed One asked.

“I am the childe of Drusilla here, who is the childe of Angelus, childe of Darla. She was turned by the Master himself. Happy?” Spike asked with a sneer.

The Anointed one stared at them, after a few moments he said, “Welcome to Sunnydale.”
