I don't own the X-Men, those belong to Marvel Comics and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Emma Frost was created by Chris Claremont and John Bryne.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created By Joss Whedon and all the characters with the BTVS TV series are his as well.
The Thundercats were created by Ted Wolf and currently belong to Warner Brothers, at one point in time Marvel comics did do a run of the them in comics form, although DC comics do them now.
“So, what can you tell me about your experience here?” Mary Jane asked Kurt after turning on the tape recorder.
“I honestly can't think of a place I'd rather be.” Kurt told her. “With that, I'll be going.”
“Sit down Kurt.” Wanda sighed while Mary Jane laughed.
“Well it all started with a phone call.” Kurt began.
Peter snapped a photo of the group as Kurt told his story.
“Are you sure you want to do that?” Calvin asked Xander as the older mutant got on the treadmill.
“Please, if Ben can do this workout routine I can.” Xander told him as he began running.
“Your funeral.” Calvin shrugged.
“How much faster could he... hello!” Xander said as the pace picked up.
“How fast can Ben go?” Cordelia asked Calvin once they got out of earshot.
“Ninety.” Calvin grinned.
Cordelia's eyes widened. “Xander's only gotten up to seventy five. He's been focusing a lot on strength training instead.”
“He'll hit the wall pretty soon then, well one way or the other.” Calvin grinned.
The was a shout and a loud thud.
“I see what you mean.” Cordelia said before going to go check on her husband.
Jennifer Walters lazily opened up one eye and found a strange ceiling above her. She remembered... too many Mai Tais.... but she felt usually relaxed for some reason. It was like she'd gotten a full body massage. She hadn't felt this comfortable and safe in a long time. She embraced the feeling and fell back asleep.
Snuggled on both sides of her, two cat like people were purring in their sleep.
“And that is why I always wear an apron in the kitchen.” Kurt finished.
Mary Jane blinked. She'd have to scratch about half of the conversation. She didn't know Kurt could ramble like that. Still. Progress. She shut off the tape recorder and stretched slightly. “Okay. I'm going to go take a little bathroom break and then we can interview the next person on the list.”
“Who's next?” Kurt asked.
“Fred. I plan on covering one mutants the world knows of and an unknown one for each article.” Mary Jane told him. “Studying the AP manual was a bitch, but what they're willing to offer per article will be worth it.”
“Should we try to plug our cookbook?” Kurt asked her.
“Worth a shot.” Mary Jane shrugged. “If you'll excuse me, the little girl's room is calling.”
Four Freedoms Plaza....
“Hmm” Reed Richards said as stared at his calculations again. Predicting societal outcomes was difficult due to the level of chaos involved. “Strange, I forgot to carry the one.” He said before adjusting the formula. He stared at the result. “Well crap.” He said as he leaned back in thought.
“What is it Reed?” Susan asked as she looked at her fiancé.
“We've got a long road ahead of us Susan.” Reed said softly. “The rise of mutants is just beginning.”
“You say that like it's a bad thing.” Susan told him. “What's wrong?”
“The situation could still change at any time.” Reed said. “If something happens that could sway the public opinion towards registration.... we're all going to be in a lot of trouble.”
“How much trouble?” Susan asked.
“We might be okay. Might being the key word.” Reed sighed. “Remember when things were simpler? When all we had to do was steal a rocket?”
“Those were the days.” She agreed.
When she next awoke, Jennifer Walters found the bed she was in to be empty besides herself. She could have sworn she'd fallen asleep with... two cat people! “What the hell did I do last night?” She said to herself. She heard the sound of running water. She got out of the bed promptly tripped, falling forward.
She looked down and swore. “What an idiot leaves a pile of money... a pile of money! Roulette! This is my money! I'm rich!”
The running water of the shower stopped. Jennifer looked up from where she was and saw a muscular man walk out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. It was Ben from the day before. He was... a mutant. She didn't know how to feel about that.
“Oh, good you're up. Breakfast is on its way.” Ben told her with a grin. “What all do you remember about last night?”
“Everything.” Jennifer said before blushing. “I normally don't do things like this.”
“I know, that's part of what favor thirty seven was. No offense, but you probably needed this more than you know.” Ben said as he got some clothes out from the dresser.
“Well, I did date a guy in college but he was... kind of a fumbler.” Jennifer said as she realized she was still naked. She grabbed the sheet off the bed and wrapped it around herself.
Ben laughed. “Now you're modest.”
“I was raised to be a good girl.” Jennifer half squeaked.
“And you were.” Felicia literally purred as she came out of the bathroom. “I haven't had that much fun since I was in college when someone did that for me.”
“So that wasn't just a random sexual favor?” Ben asked her as he started getting dressed.
“Nope.” Felicia grinned. “Shower's free and I got the hair out of the drain.” She said to Jennifer. “How long are you going to be in town for?”
“A few days. I'm here to meet with my cousin.” Jennifer said. “Crap, what time is it?” She said as she stood.
“A little after ten.” Ben told her. “When do you have to meet him?”
“Five.” Jennifer sighed. “I lost track of time last night. How much money did you win? Better yet, how did you do it?”
“We won close to a million and a half apiece.” Ben told her. “We got a little... distracted after that. You get a little grabby once you've had a few.”
Jennifer stared at the floor for a few seconds. “I'm not much of... well I don't party normally. But with the winning and the.... What happens in Vegas right?”
Ben and Felicia shared a look. “Well, if you ever get the itch while you're at law school... we're open to conjugal visits.” Ben told her as he waggled his eyebrows.
“Law school is hardly a prison.” Jennifer said as she headed for the bathroom. “I'm going to shower.” She paused at the doorway. “I'm here for another two days, I'll.. think about it.”
“You know, you're right.” Felicia said to Ben.
“I usually am, but what am I right about now?” He asked her.
“You're not boring.” She said as they heard a knock on the door.
“Breakfast!” Ben grinned as Felicia turned on her image inducer and the lady came in with an entire cart full of food.
“We should be sure to leave some for Jennifer.” Felicia said as she took her first bite of french toast.
“We will.” Ben assured her. “That's what the bottom row is for.” He said before sipping taking a swig of coffee straight from the insulated pitcher.
Back at Xavier's.....
“So I have one last question for you Fred.” Mary Jane said as the interview came to a close. “Do you have any 'Before' photos?”
“I still have a few.” Fred told her with a grin. “I can't believe I was ever that big.”
“Parts of him still are.” Emma said with a wink.
“Okay, that's not going in the article.” Mary Jane sighed.
“Spoilsport.” Emma pouted.
Jennifer Walters stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. The two people she'd hooked up with yesterday... the way they looked at her. Like she was beautiful and powerful... she liked being looked on like that. She couldn't believe her luck... Luck. Ben didn't answer the question. Dammit. Was this some sort of mutant power? Did he hit her with some sort of whammy? She needed answers.
She stormed out of the bathroom and found the two mutants sitting at the small table and eating...
“Are those Crêpes?” She asked hopefully.
“Blueberry.” Ben confirmed.
Questions could wait. She was starving!
In another casino...
“So what's so important about this cousin of yours?” Ben asked Jennifer as they were sitting at a blackjack table where Ben was winning the majority of the hands. He wasn't following the basic rules, doubling down more often than the he should and still winning more than he should be. They weren't betting large amounts, but Ben's pile was growing slowly.
“Bruce is a brilliant man, don't get me wrong.” Jennifer said as she sipped her coffee. “But he's been in trouble of some kind the past couple of years. There was some sort of lab accident and the army's been looking for him for a while for some reason. He wanted to meet here to see me. He heard I graduated in the top ten percent of my class and wanted to catch up.”
“Wait... No that's crazy.” Ben said with a snort.
“What?” Jennifer asked.
“Is your cousin Bruce Banner by any chance?” Ben asked her.
“Do you know him?” Jennifer asked.
“All right, let's cash this out and go somewhere else to talk.” Ben sighed. “I'm not boring.” He muttered.
“Do you know something about my cousin? What did he do to piss off the army so much?” Jennifer asked.
“It's... complicated.” Ben said as he grabbed his chips and tipped the dealer. “I'll tell you somewhere else.”
Jennifer looked to Felicia who shrugged. She didn't know either.
Back in the Hotel Room....
“All right, what do you know about the Hulk?” Ben asked Jennifer once he made sure the room wasn't bugged.
“What does that monster have to do with anything?” Jennifer demanded. “Wait... you can't... He isn't... is he?”
“There was a lab accident, that much is true. It would have killed a normal man but something in your cousin along with what he was testing... changed him.” Ben explained. “Because of the material he was working with, the guy in charge of the project considers him property of the Army.”
“That's got to be illegal!” Jennifer said. “He's a victim of circumstance... isn't he?”
“It was an accident. From what I've learned, Bruce Banner wouldn't do that to anyone for shits and giggles.” Ben told her.
“Damn right he wouldn't.” Jennifer half growled, defending her first cousin. “What can we do to help?”
“That depends on whether or not you want us in on the meeting.” Ben told her. “I've got some ideas, but some of it is going to take some finagling, and maybe a little magic.”
Jennifer nodded. “Wait, magic is real? Mutants are one thing, but magic?” She asked.
Ben sighed. “Jen, the world is older than you know.” He began.....
A run down coffee shop, several blocks off the strip
2 hours later....
“Jennifer. It's good to see you.” Bruce said as he hugged his cousin after she came into the shop.
“Bruce.” Jennifer said with a tight voice. “I'm so sorry this happened to you.”
Bruce paused. “You know?” He said quietly.
“It's going to be okay.” She told him.
“You haven't called anyone have you? I don't want to have 'it' come out here.” Bruce said as he looked around.
“God no!” Jennifer said. “I've got some friends who might be able to help you hide from Ross.” Jennifer told him. “They're... not exactly normal themselves.”
“I'm listening.” Bruce said after he took a couple of deep breaths to calm down.
2 hours, several long stories and more than a few cups of Decaf coffee later, Bruce was riding in Ben's van for a quick detour to New York.
“How is the A-Team van inconspicuous again?” Bruce asked as the group drove down the highway leading into the desert.
“Everyone's a critic.” Ben sighed as the van was suddenly somewhere else. He pulled out his cell phone and made a call. “Prof, it's me. I'm coming in with a package. He's not dangerous, but you wouldn't like him when he's angry if you get my meaning. I need Forge and Wanda in on this. Keep Sean out of it.” He said into the phone. “Thanks.” He said before hanging up. “We'll be there in a few minutes.” He said to the group.
“All roads lead to Xavier's.” Felicia sighed. “Back here again?”
“Just till we can get Bruce taken care of on the ID and hiding front.” Ben told her. “Then we're back to Vegas.”
“How long will this take?” Bruce asked.
“Depends on you Dr. Banner.” Ben told him. “We're going to kit you out with some neat stuff if you're willing.”
“Like what?” Bruce asked.
“You'll see. But I have to go shopping. What kind of wallets do you prefer?” Ben asked.
“Slim black leather if I can get it.” Bruce told him as they pulled into the grounds of a mansion. “Nice place.” He said quietly.
“It's bigger on the inside.” Ben told him.
“You live here?” Jennifer asked him.
“No, I live on the Beta site.” Ben told her. “My original lives here.”
“Original?” Jennifer asked.
“I'm not only a mutant, I'm a clone too.” Ben told her. “If it weren't for some creative hacking, I wouldn't have an identity in the first place.”
“How old are you?” Jennifer asked him.
“Less than a year old.” Ben told her.
“Talk about cradle robbing.” Bruce joked from the back while Jennifer sighed.
“I think we're going to get along just fine.” Ben grinned as he parked the van.
One hour later....
“All right, we've got five wallets and four new identities. The glamours are tied to the wallets and the wallets can't be stolen.” Ben explained. “Only one wallet at a time can be taken out of the 'bag of holding' that's keyed only to you when you're in your baseline form. The Hulk can't see it, let alone get into it. The moment you change, the current wallet you're using ends back up in the bag.” Ben said as he handed Bruce five wallets and a small leather bag.
“This is great.” Bruce said as he checked the wallets and put the four alternate identities into the bag that magically attached itself to his belt.
“We're not done.” Ben told him. “Next, we've got some underclothing that's been treated in unstable molecules. They'll last through your transformations. When you change, whatever clothes you're wearing at the time, will go into the bag. He said as he handed Bruce a large stack of black undershirts and boxer briefs. “They won't need much cleaning, and the shirts when you're the Hulk say, 'If you can read this, you're too close'” Ben told him.
Bruce had to stifle a laugh. “Thanks for this. I've been wearing super stretch pants for far too long. It kind of limits my wardrobe.”
“We can't cure you I'm afraid.” Ben told him. “You might not be able to ever be cured.”
“I'll find one.” Bruce told him. “Science did this to me, science will cure me one day.”
Ben nodded. “You've got hope. That's commendable. Now let's all get back to Vegas. I've got a long night of gambling and sex ahead of me.” Ben said as he rubbed his hands.
Bruce looked at his cousin who blushed. “Where do you meet these people?” he asked her.
Jennifer shrugged. “Just lucky I guess.”
