Teaching Abby

Disclaimer: Buffy and NCIS do not belong to me, they are not apart of my imagination but the situation that they are found within this fic is.
Author's Note: This is going to be a series of emails that are sent between different people, either within the Watchers Council itself or the Watchers Council to NCIS and visa versa. This chapter covers a few upcoming fics I am working on in which Abby meets a few of the Buffy verse.
All email addresses are made up!

OMG! The other night was incredible (get your mind out of the gutter mister). How the hell can she teleport? Can I get in contact with her?

You’ll be happy to know Gibbs is making a full recovery. Director Shepherd has tried to get him to reduce his hours until he’s better but the death glare came out. For all the time she has known him, she really doesn’t know him well.

Ducky was quite upset that Gibbs had forgotten him. But he’s happy that you came as soon as you knew.

Tell Tim that I’ll call him tonight for a gossip session. I want to hear all about your girls and you are too biased.

Miss you!

Hey Wills

You remember Abby? The girl who came with us to Portsmouth Hospital… she’s been asking if she can get into contact with you. Apparently the whole teleporting thing is incredible so I think she has some questions to ask you. Is it okay if I pass on your email address?

Thanks again for your help.

Sure, go ahead Tony. She’s pretty cute so I don’t mind being in contact with her.

Oh goddess, that’s proof enough that I’ve spent too much time around you. :p

Don’t worry, I’m not teaching the girls this.

Hope you’re ready for a series of scientific questions…

Hey Abs

If you want to pose any questions to Willow, her email is w.rosenberg@twc.org.

Good to hear that Gibbs is getting better. And Jenny should definitely know better. Is the death stare at full potency though? That’s a sure sign he is better. Ducky should know that in that kind of situation we’d be there. Gibbs has done so much for us.

How’s the hearse, have you manage to fix it since the break down?

Probie says he’ll be free from 8pm until midnight if you want to call then.

Hi Willow

I’m Abby Scuito; you met me the other night. Tony says that it was okay for me to email you. I hope you don’t mind. It’s just… I have a series of questions about your abilities. Especially your ability to teleport places.

Firstly: have you always been a witch?
Secondly: how long did it take to master your ability to teleport?
Thirdly: how did you discover you could teleport?
Fourthly: is it anything like apparating like in the Harry Potter books?

I know Tony probably told you that I’d be asking you scientific questions and I may later but I’m from New Orleans, so I do know that there are other powers at work out there that can’t be described by science. Plus I have a love of the Occult, so I have some of that… OMG, you’re the Red Witch aren’t you?

I just put it together. You’re Willow Rosenberg, one of the most powerful Wiccans ever!

No wonder you can teleport. Sorry, very excited here!

Just thought of another question for you... I know for certain spells, you are required to have different ingredients but what happens if there is a series of varieties of the ingredients? Say for example, you needed to add basil to a spell. Does it matter if you use sweet basil as opposed to Thai basil or African Blue basil? Is there any variation of the desired outcome depending on type?

Sorry about the babbling, I do that sometimes when I’m excited.

Hi Abby

Don’t worry about the babbling, I tend to do that a lot too. As for me being the Red Witch, yep that’s me. But I tend not to advertise the fact, it means that I get left alone for most part and can focus on the demands of the Council and the Coven without having to worry about being called out to all kinds of things. I’ll always be there if something serious is happening but for minor disputes, I can let others answer the questions.

In response to your questions…

>Firstly: have you always been a witch?
Nope. I was raised Jewish but after meeting Buffy, I began looking into spell craft as a means to helping her. After a few spells worked, I began following the Wiccan Rede and started practicing daily. Not that it is always easy to follow. There have been times where I have stumbled off the path but have managed to come back to the right way.

>Secondly: how long did it take to master your ability to teleport?
> Thirdly: how did you discover you could teleport?
These two questions tie into one another.

The reason I added the bit about stumbling is because it ties into my ability to teleport. While I went through a tough period in which I used my power for myself, I began to teleport. I mastered it fairly quickly but I had access to some rather powerful magicks at the time, once I no longer had access to those magicks it took a while to be able to delve back into the abilities that I was able to do. The Devon Coven has helped me to redevelop those skills without the use of dark intent.

>Fourthly: is it anything like apparating like in the Harry Potter books?
I’m not certain. Basically, I’m the only person I know who can teleport. The only other person who I knew had the ability was killed a few years ago. So from my knowledge there has never been an accident where half the body turns up in one place and the other half elsewhere. I’m not sure if anyone else has the ability or if they did whether that kind of incident had occurred.

In regards to your question about varieties of ingredients being used, does it make a difference…?

It really depends. Using your example of basil. If the spell required sweet basil and I used Thai basil, the potency would not be the same as if I had used sweet basil. Basically, the spell would work but not as strongly as if I had used the correct type. But if it just asked for basil, I could use any variety and it wouldn’t matter except if it was a cultivated form. Non adapted forms of ingredients will always mean more powerful spells. It would work similar to if I used another form of basil compared to the one specified.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the answers! I really do appreciate it. And don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about you being the Red Witch. Also, do you think Buffy would mind if I ask her questions about being a Slayer? I just love learning new things and Slayer lore is an interest.

Further question to the basil one. What happens if the spell asks for sweet basil AND Thai basil but you only have one variety and it happens to be neither of the types asked for?

Abby

I think Buffy maybe visiting Washington DC’s Slayer House soon. I’ll see if I can organize a meeting for you so you can ask her the questions and see some of their abilities in person. Much more interesting than via email. I’ll let you know. I can understand just continually wanting to learn more.

Also, the issue when you have neither variety of the ingredients specified… in that case, I wouldn’t attempt the spell. Its fine to use a substitute for one ingredient but using substitutes for two is not advised. Especially if you are using the same ingredient to substitute for both. Basically, the spell will not know what quantity is being included for which ingredient, so it deems it as incorrect and will not work… which can lead to hair standing on end as it blows up in your face or any other variety of set backs.

We are about to undertake a massive new project with Tim’s help, but he has advised some questions may be best to ask you as a Forensic Scientist. When the time comes, do you mind if Andrew or I call you to talk about the best way to input different aspects? We’re looking at building a Demon variation of CODIS.

Hey Buffy, how’s the travel going? When are you next in DC?

The reason I’m asking is because I’ve been corresponding with Abby, you know Tim and Tony’s friend who still works at NCIS? She’s been asking me questions in relation to spells and spell craft and she asked if it would be okay to ask you some questions about being a Slayer. Now knowing how often you get to check your email, I said I would see about you having a face to face with her when you’re in DC.

She’s basically a really cool nerd. Loves learning everything and anything but she doesn’t look anything like a stereotypical nerd, instead she’s got sort of a Goth type thing happening. Tony often jokes that she’s the happiest Goth in the world.

Has Dawnie sent you any updates recently? Haven’t heard from her in a couple of months.

Miss you Buffy. You so need to stop by again soon.

Really? You’ll see if I can meet her? Wow!

Okay, I can understand the reasoning behind not attempting the spell. Not that I am going to attempt any spells, just something I read somewhere else and wanted your opinion on it. The only reason I used basil as an example is not because I have a huge fascination of it but because I had just had a pizza with it as an ingredient and they specified that it was sweet basil.

A demon CODIS sounds like a great idea. I’ll be happy to input whatever suggestions I can into it but I’m not sure just how much I can answer. But as someone who uses CODIS frequently I’m sure I can raise some questions for feedback and everything.
