This is a ficlet I wrote. I just couldn't get the idea of Dru meeting the Joker out of my head. So, here it is. Maybe now, this plot bunny will leave me alone.
Title: Girl With Golden Eyes
Crossover: Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The Dark Knight
Disclaimer: I do not own The Dark Knight or Buffy The Vampire Slayer
It was the silence that piqued the Joker's interest. The old church should have been filled with hymns and prayers, and light from both bulb and flame. Instead dark shadows crept along the walls and floors. Parishioners sat, neatly arranged in pews, staring with sightless eyes at the alter before them.
His shoes creaked and crunched as he walked along the debris strewn aisle. A woman, dressed in a white gown with a lace shawl, sat kneeling before the alter. She was humming an old hymn, and swaying gently from side to side.
“Why hello, beautiful.” His voice was raspy, echoing in the silent church turned tomb. His eyes scanned the rest of the building, finding the priest lying on the floor, head resting in the woman’s lap. Her thin pale hands slowly smoothed back the priest’s matted hair, unconcerned by the blood splashed across his face, neck, and clothes.
“He liked pretty boys, this one did.” Her voice was soft. Her accent sweet and innocent, and he stopped his trek, head cocked to the side, waiting to see what she would do, or perhaps say, next. “Loved their innocence, the way Daddy loved mine.”
“And this Daddy of yours?” the Joker asked, as he took a few slow steps forward. She was only seated a few feet from him now. “Was he a bad man?”
Her giggles surprised him. “Oh yes. The baddest.”
“Were you, Daddy‘s special girl?” He asked. His glee at the thought filled his words.
She turned then, and looked up at him with wide dark eyes filled with madness. “Daddy put my scars on the inside. Would you like to see them?”
The Joker remained silent as she stood, letting the priest's head drop forgotten to the floor. She seemingly glided over to him, her footsteps silent in the darkened church.
“You wear your scars for all to see,” she said, her cold hand trailing down the side of his face.
“Wanna know how I got these scars?” the Joker asked her, trapping her hand against his cheek.
“Shhh…” she said, laying a finger against his lips. “You must not tell. It’s a secret.”
She giggled again, spinning away from him, dancing in the moonlight shining through one of the windows. She was humming to herself again, her delicate arms held above her head.
“You shouldn’t do things like that,” he said, his eyes tracking her movements. “You’ll give a guy ideas.”
“I can see you,” she said, seeming to ignore his words. “You make them scream. I like that. Daddy used to make them scream too.”
“A bit obsessed with this Daddy of yours, aren’t you?”
“Oh yes,” she said with a dreamy sigh. “You would have liked Daddy, before the Angel beast came along and ruined him. Now he’s gone and Princess is all alone.”
She seemed to draw into herself, becoming more fragile and childlike. Her eyes slowly rose to look into his. “I’m cold. My Spike used to keep me warm, but he’s gone too. Will you help keep me warm?”
The Joker walked forward, placing his arm around her shoulders. Her head rested neatly on his shoulder, her face turned towards his neck. She had one arm looped around his waist. “Of course my dear. Now come along, I’ve got something I’d like to show you.”
Her breath tickled his neck as she laughed.
Her other hand now rested on his other shoulder, somehow holding him in place. Her face lifted from its resting place, and he found himself staring into her dark eyes.
“So much suffering. And you're already a master at creating it." Her head tilted to the side and slowly her face changed. Her eyes turned gold and deep ridges stood out on her forehead. She smiled then, lips widening to reveal her elongated teeth. The Joker found it fascinating to watch. "I'm going to be a Mummy again."
