~~~~~~~~~Most of the time it’s easy to tell who your friends are and who your enemies are. The nice surprises are when they just drop in your lap.
“Hey, baby.” A brunette settled herself on Sam’s lap.
“Yeah, sugar…Faith!” Sam’s face broke into a grin. “Didn’t think you would make it down for awhile.”
Faith dropped an arm around Sam’s neck. “Oh, you know. Old Army buddy sent me on this job up where it was really cold. Needed a vacation after. Had to pick someplace warm with friends I could mooch off of.”
“Sam,” Michael shifted into his friend’s eye-line. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?”
“Oh, Mike, this is Faith. So how did the job go?” Sam would deal with Michael’s curiosity later.
“Would I be here all happy shiny if it wasn’t blood on the pavement?” Michael frowned at this announcement. Faith turned back to Michael. “I gotta say, you look a whole lot better than last time I saw you.”The slaps to the face are when you realize you have forgotten they are sitting right in front of you all the time.
“Last time you saw me?” Michael was thoroughly confused now. Confused was not good. Confused was dangerous.
“So this is the friend we had to pull your ass out of a court martial for? He looks worth it.” Faith openly checked him out.
“Sam?” Michael used his I-really-would-like-an-answer voice.When that happens, you can only hope you will be there for them when they need it.
Sam scrambled. “Oh, look there’s Fiona. Faith, there is someone I am just dying for you to meet.” He winked at Michael.
I tried writing a different ending several times, but the muse just wouldn't allow it. So this is how it is. Probably not my best, but I had fun writing it.
