A/N:
Summary: “…because sometimes… the truth isn’t good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve… to have their faith… rewarded.” The Dark Knight is still a hero to those that matter – even accused of murder. “And sometimes they deserve the truth… Batman.” Buffy x-over, AU.

“I told you once that faith is believing when there’s no reason to believe.”
“Yes. What about it?” Bruce asked.
“After it rains, the sky is blue. That’s Gotham now; the rain. So I have faith in a blue tomorrow,” Mercia said.
She walked away; as simple as that.
There are heroes in this world; some wear uniforms, some don’t. Some are made of steel, or have gold metals, or win awards. Some have silver tongues and call for peace; some don’t and call for peace anyway. They are everywhere, walking among you. They are people willing to step up; rare, but still there’s one within every crowd. They are the ordinary people, who pull you back as a car races past where you were. The might give money to charity, or take in children not their own, or simply hand you back a dropped wallet. They eat dinner at night and oversleep. They get stressed at work. They are simple ordinary people, willing to pay the price….
Some heroes… they’re made of copper. When the rainfall is over with they may look different for it, tarnished, but they are still there standing strong. They are your local firefighter, the police, the serviceman or the veterinarian. Like you, they are ordinary people, ones who make mistakes… but they admit their mistakes, and are willing to take the fall… so that you can have the *shining* copper heroes.
*Dedicated to my Uncle David, who died pulling a man from the train tracks. You may not have done much else with your life, but you're a hero to me.*
