I Need You Disclaimer:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer belongs to Joss Whedon and Harry Potter belong to JK Rowling A/N:
Like with Rose Evans
, the verses don’t match up, timeline-wise, but for people who like order, um, bring the HP timeline in this fic forward to match Buffy’s in this fic.
“You loved her, didn’t you? It’s why you’re fighting, isn’t it?”
He nodded, although he knew that she knew that anyway. “I still do not understand why I am here.”
“I need you, Severus.”
“Rose,” he started. He always hated calling her by that other name, the name she insisted on using, even when she was safe, “I am sure that you are capable of doing what needs to be done.”
“You’re ruining this serious moment, its Buffy,” she rolled her eyes.
“If it’s ruined, can you please let some light in? This cloak and dagger setting backfired the moment I realized who you were.”
Sighing and complaining that no one appreciated the classics, Buffy stood from her chair and walked to the wall, flipping the switch, allowing the bright lights to push back the darkness from the room.
“Now, what, Rose, do you need from me?” he asked.
“You’re the only one who knows that Lily had another sister, me, right? No one else found out?” she asked, searching his face for any deception. She might not be a witch and exceptional at seeing into the mind, but her calling did allow her some advantage.
“Not even Albus is aware,” he answered, truthfully.
“It’s nice to know that Lily’s trust in you wasn’t misplaced.”
“I would never betray her or her memory,” he assured the slayer. “Or you.”
And Buffy knew he was being serious. After he had befriended Lily at Hogwarts, Severus managed to do what James never did. He allowed Lily to let her guard down and open up about the sadness that was overwhelming her at losing Buffy to the Watcher’s Council as a child. He had the information and he didn’t abuse it. In fact, he was the one who had convinced Lily to go against her parents and the Council’ wishes to seek Buffy out and visit her.
Before, and after being called as the slayer, Severus and Lily had made sporadic visits to the youngest Evans.
“What do you need, Rose?”
“You’ve been made an undercover spy for both sides, right?”
Eyes widening, Severus asked how she knew.
“Slayers are everywhere, you know,” Buffy smirked. “You should really tell those Death Eaters to not speak so loudly when they think no one is around, spying on them. A few slayers heard and reported back to me. Funny how your name came up in the Death Eater’s conversation about you being a spy on Albus, but I knew you wouldn’t betray him like that, or Lily.”
“You would be the only one.”
“I’d say sorry, but you’ve already ranted and raved to me about Sirius Black and we both know he didn’t do it.”
That was a feud that would never be over.
“So you report to Albus about Voldemort’s plans, which, good on him for thinking that up, but I want you to send me whatever information you send him.”
“I agreed with the man on that Harry needed to be sent to someone that Voldemort wouldn’t expect, but Petunia… PETUNIA!”
“He considered all arguments and felt it was best, not to mention, he doesn’t know you exist.”
“I’m aware of that, but Petunia hates anything magic. And this way, we can keep track of the big bad ourselves and make a move if Albus doesn’t.”
“You’d have to reveal yourself eventually, and all the other slayers,” Severus spoke.
“Whatever the Wizarding World throws at us, we’ll be ready. So, will you do it, Severus? For me?”
In agreeing to do this, he’d be betraying Voldemort, which he had no problem with, and Albus, which he felt slightly bad for betraying. He gave him a chance where others would have written him. But this was Rose asking him, whose sister he had loved dearly. There was no other choice really.
Guess I’m not ready to leave the Rose Evans ‘verse behind.
