These Dreams: Dawn
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life.
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake
the further I'm away.
Song: These Dreams Artists: Heart date: 1995
Dawn followed Giles to Rome. Her calls to her sister had been going unanswered, so she called the London Headquarters. When she heard that Giles had gone to Rome in what Roxie the Slayer on duty had called an absolute panic she put two and two together and came up with trouble! Taking only enough time to pack a light suitcase, and grab Andrew by the collar, she had boarded a Rome bound flight. Arriving at Buffy’s apartment she found her father-figure in less than a panic and more of a tizzy. Giles explained that he ha cast several spells and that near as he could figure Willow had blocked access to the plane that Buffy and Xander had gone to. No, he did not know why, but he had set a ‘watchman’ spell, and it would notify them when the portal became unblocked, all they could do was wait.
Dawn took back her old room, Giles took Buffy’s room, and Andrew got the couch. She did vow to teach Andrew a little about how to dress. His gold sharkskin suit and white and purple striped shirt were giving her a headache. At least he wore the skinny black tie, not four inch the red one with Bugs Bunny on it, but the yellow shoes with the lifts in them just had to go.
She sat down at her old desk to write her professors each a note explaining that she had been called away on a family emergency, but jet lag only let her get through half of the first letter.
##She was back in Sunnydale, and she was late for school.
“You know that’s not right don’t you sweetie,” her mom asked? “Sunnydale isn’t even here anymore, for that matter neither am I! Try again honey.”
Suddenly Joyce turned into a large White Rabbit wearing a red vest, and carrying a gold pocket watch. The Rabbit turned to her and said in her mother’s voice, “nope, not much better honey, one more time.”
Now the Rabbit was Joyce again, but this time she had a halo, and large white wings, and they were surrounded by clouds.
“Well I guess this will just have to do,” the mom-angel said with a grin.
“Are we in Heaven Mom, did I die,” Dawn asked a little confused?
“I’m in Heaven you’re still very much alive. That by the way is why I’m here.” Mom was still smiling. Joyce was quickly joined by Tara, and Anya, also angels. Anya’s halo was crooked, but she had one.
“Sweetie…uh…your not going to die…not for a very, very...uh...very long time.” Joyce kind of stammered.
“Dawnie it’s going to be a long time before we see you, Buffy, Xander, and Willow up here…” Tara said softly.
Anya blew a stray hair out of her face, “What these two are hemming and hawing about is that you four are just about immortal! Jeez was that so hard.”
Dawn’s superior intellect, and massive vocabulary went kerflooie for a moment, “huh?”
“Look kid you were the Cosmic Key or some such right, and though you aren’t anymore you absorbed a whole bunch of Key energy. Your blood still opens gates just not all at once, Thank God. So until that energy completely dissipates in a couple millennia or so, it will take a nuclear blast or disintegration ray to kill you, though I suppose a disintegration spell would work too. Buffy got pulled out of Heaven, and that made her a bigtime immortal. Xander is possessed by a Primal Spirit that won’t let him die, so he's immortal. Willow absorbed a load of magic when she went gaga after Tara’s death and that made her immortal. What goes for you goes for them a nuke, or disintegration that’s it. Got it?” Anya straightened her halo, which promptly tilted to the other side.
“But what about Giles, Andrew, and Faith won’t they die?” Dawn stammered.
“Giles will die soon honey, but he will come back as a kind of Guardian Angel for you four,” Joyce explained.
“Andrew, and Faith, well, by the time they die they will have earned their place in Heaven,” Tara smiled. “Oh, and Willow has a new love now, and I approve."
"And Xander and your sister are married...to each other... so don’t give them any grief.” Joyce said in a bit of a scolding tone.
“Listen Honey, our time is up now. We love you all, don’t forget us,” Joyce said softly.
“Oh, Mom I love you all, how could I ever forget you,” was Dawns tearful question?##
She woke up with tears in her eyes. Dawn went into the living room. Giles was sitting in the kitchenette eating a pastrami sandwich, on whole wheat with moyonaisse. Dawn ran to him and hugged him like she hadn’t hugged him in a long time.
