A Mother Knows

A Mother Knows

Roarke was wrapped around her, both of them thinking too loud to sleep.

He squeezed Eve’s waist. “You believe she loved you?”

Eve swallowed and reached for the hefty book, turning to the first page. “I’m sorry, daughter of my daughter. The feeling that I won’t be around for your mother won’t leave me and I just know that you’ll be the one to truly suffer for that. Sometimes, a mother just knows.

The important part of my life, I suppose, started after my pretty blonde Cheerleader of a sister burned down her High School gym and we had to move to Sunnydale. She was a hero, baby girl, just like I know you’re going to be…”

As Eve read, a warmth spread from her center, filling in the invisible cracks that had always been there.
