“So,” Lorne drawled. “What were they like?”
Sheppard flinched, causing Lorne’s eyebrows to climb up his forehead. “Nice,” Sheppard finally said, ignoring the slight crack in his voice. Finn’s ‘family’ had been nice. Almost as nice as they were crazy.
“So, when’s he coming back?” Lorne asked, showing more curiosity than Sheppard wanted him to.
“He’s not,” Sheppard said resolutely. “He’s retiring from active duty. One case of mistaken death by way of cloning was enough for him.”
Neither of which were actually correct. Finn would be in the field with those friends of his ‘til the day he died. And it was possible the lecture from the little blonde and redhead about going looking for trouble when they already had enough at home and causing undue grief had more to do with Finn ‘retiring’ than the accidental cloning.
He couldn’t tell Lorne that, though. There were just some things that were unbelievable unless seen for yourself.
