Chapter One: Shifting Sands
I hate disclaimers, but they are necessary.
Scooby Doo and the characters involved were created by Joe Ruby, Ken Spears, Iwao Takamato and Fred Silverman. It's a Hannah-Barbera product but at this point Warner Brothers owns the franchise.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it's characters were created by Joss Whedon and friends. It's a Fox show.
This is a work of fanfiction and not an attempt to make money.
That being said, on with the show.
Post BTVS series, Scooby Doo in Where's My Mummy?
Chapter 1: The Shifting Sands....
Xander Harris sighed after taking a long drink out of his canteen. It was hot here, way hotter than California ever was. He was here in Giza on what was beginning to look like a wild goose chase. He'd gotten a message from Giles that had moved him to the northern part Africa searching for something that at this point he believed didn't exist.
“This is pointless.” Xander muttered as he began walking back to his Jeep. The Sphinx didn't hold a single clue to what Giles had sent him searching for. He was at a dead end. He was about to head back to his hotel and make a call so he could get back to what he had been doing, finding Slayers.
He was five feet from his car when the wind picked up. He turned and his remaining eye widened. “Crap.” He said as the sudden sandstorm overtook him.
Xander sat up and began shaking the sand off from his body as he stood. He patted his pockets and found everything was still with him including his bag. He looked around to get his bearings. He saw the Sphinx, but he couldn't find his car.
“Are you lost friend?” A voice said from behind him.
Xander turned, withdrawing the knife he kept at the small of his back and found a man dressed in robes riding a camel.
“Not really, but I can't seem to find where I parked my car.” Xander said as he sheathed his knife
“Perhaps I can help. I am Amahl Ali Akbar. Are you here with the restoration group?” The man asked.
“What restoration?” Xander replied, the confusion in his voice was mirrored by the look on his face.
“The Great Sphinx.” Amahl said as he nodded past Xander's shoulder.
Xander turned and saw scaffolding all around the ancient statue. “Huh, those weren't there before.” He said mostly to himself. He paused for a moment. “Crap.”
“Egypt is a strange and wondrous place my friend. Perhaps you should go to the site. See what you can find.” Amahl told him.
“Yeah, let's do that.” Xander said. “I'm Xander Harris.”
“A strange name for a stranger in a strange land.” Amahl said as his camel began walking forward.
Shrugging, Xander followed the man.
“Hello again Amahl!” Prince Omar said as he saw the man he'd come to know since the restoration had begun. “Who is your friend?”
“He's a bit lost Prince, but I believe he's supposed to be here.” Amahl said.
“Yeah, how long has this project been going on? I swear you guys weren't here twenty minutes ago.” Xander asked the 'Prince'.
“We've been here for the last five months stranger. This project is very important to my father, the King.” Prince Omar said.
“The King? I thought Egypt was a democracy?” Xander asked.
“We do have a parliament, but there is still the royal family as well. Even for an American tourist you seem to be poorly misinformed.” The Prince told him as one of his guards came up to stand by him.
“May we see your passport?” the Guard asked Xander in accented English.
“Yeah, sure.” Xander said as he dug it out of his bag.
The man took the passport and headed towards the camp.
“Security precautions I'm afraid.” The Prince said. “You're the second American here.”
“Really? Who's the first?” Xander asked him.
“Omar, what's going on?” A short kahki clad woman with an orange undershirt and thick glasses asked as she came down from some scaffolding.
“We have a visitor who seems to be a bit disoriented. He is an American like yourself Velma.” Omar said to his guest.
“Jinkies!” Velma said. “What brings you out here? We've still got another month at least before we're done restoring the Sphinx.”
Xander paused. “Your name is Velma and you said.... Is your name Velma Dinkley?”
“Yes, do I know you?” Velma asked him. “Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!”
“I just realized I'm farther from home than I thought.” Xander said. “Do you guys have somewhere I can sit down for a minute? I don't feel so...” Xander said before passing out.
Amahl caught him before he hit the ground.
“Jinkies!” Velma exclaimed.
