Ecce Homo

10. Ecce Homo

There is pain and lights. A voice implores: live!

Compelled to obey he opens his eyes to hear the steady, if slow, beat of his heart.

Green eyes look down at him through a curtain of golden hair and strangely he thinks of the desert.

She smiles and says: Hey.

Quick and careful hands examine his wounds as she talks: Doc was still digging bullets out of you this morning. Wasn’t sure you were going to wake up.

She pauses to look at him: What’s your name?

It takes him a minute to think of it: I am Derrial Book.
